Certifi cate 2 Hospitality

This year for the fi rst time, students undertaking the Certifi cate 2 Hospitality course have been provided with a ‘chefs’ uniform that includes the KHS Logo. The students were very proud to receive their uni-forms on Wednesday the 23rd of February as you can tell from the smiles in the photographs.

As the students need to complete competencies to demonstrate they are able to work in a com-mercial kitchen they will be cooking at Calliste-mon House every Thursday afternoon.

Students have continued to expand on their cooking knowledge this week by learning about dishes using pork and chicken.

Year 10 UpdateAs we head into the business part of Term 1 the Year 10’s are learning to cope with the new amounts of homework and increased hours of study required this year. They are learning to prioritise their assessments and work, and refer to their teachers for extra assistance when necessary which is a new experience for some of them. As the students come to realise that their teachers are here for them and are more than happy to assist with any queries they might have, a new schooling experience is opened up to them; they are treated as adults and are responsible for their own success. It is an exciting time, as this year the year 10’s will be prepped for their important year 11 and 12 schooling years, and staff wish to congratulate most of them on their progress thus far.In December this year the Year 10’s are offered the chance to participate in an overseas Trip to Vietnam, and deposits are fl owing into the front offi ce. It will be an amazing experience for those who wish to come, with many excit-ing activities such as overnight boat and train trips, snorkeling, kayaking and cooking and new and exhilarating smells and tastes available in the cultural history and heritage that is Vietnam.

Daisie Thomas - Year 10 Coordinator

Year 7 UpdateYear seven students have been rolling along very well with plenty of assessment becoming due in the next two weeks. Camp letters will be distributed in the next week or so. Please be aware that students must be in full school uniform and this means proper closed in shoes or sneakers and plain black shorts. The year sevens to this point have been very good but I have noticed this is starting to slip. Parents will be contacted should their students not fulfi ll the requirements. We ask that parents check their child’s diary every night for homework.

Jim Stewart - Year 7 Coordinator
