Operational Changes in Response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
Public sites closed starting Monday, March 16, tentatively scheduled to reopen Monday, March 30
In order to limit health risks associated with COVID-19, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation will close most public sites for two weeks starting Monday, March 16 with operations tentatively scheduled to resume Monday, March 30.
These closures affect:Historic Area interpretive sites and programsThe Art Museums of Colonial WilliamsburgTaverns and other Historic Area food and beverage locationsThe Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitor CenterThe John D. Rockefeller Jr. LibraryBassett HallThe Custis Square archaeological site
Ahead of Monday’s wider closure, selected weekend programming has been cancelled, including carriage rides, the Musket Range, evening programs and Fifes & Drum performances.
If you’re visiting onsite Saturday March 14 and Sunday March 15, we ask that you refrain from greeting our interpreters and staff with physical contact. As directed by the CDC, people should maintain least six feet distance between them. Guests will be admitted into sites in small groups to help maintain this space.

Additionally, Colonial Williamsburg has cancelled Foundation-led meetings and conferences through April 21, including Colonial Williamsburg’s annual Garden Symposium, originally scheduled for April 17-19.
Colonial Williamsburg hotels remain open, as will the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club and hospitality-site retail and food-and-beverage locations. Colonial Williamsburg’s Merchants Square will also be open with individual shops and restaurants operating at their discretion.
Scheduled resumption of operations is dependent upon reduced health risk. Colonial Williamsburg continues to monitor public health guidance while working closely with government agencies, healthcare and private-sector organizations, William & Mary and other partners to coordinate response, and has aligned plans and response with those of Virginia Department of Health and other regional agencies.
Additional information on COVID-19, including additional preventative measures is available from the Virginia Department of Health at vdh.virginia.gov and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at cdc.gov.
