Principal’s Report

End of year Celebration….. This Friday 14th December we will be holding our end of year celebration from 5pm to 7pm

at Apex Park. This is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and celebrate the success of our students

in 2018. A free sausage sizzle will be on offer and we will have our canoes in the water for students to use under the

supervision of parents/guardians. This event is heavily dependent on the weather. Notification will take place via our

Facebook site if the event will need to be cancelled.

Student Transition Program….. This week students have been spending 2 hours working in their 2019 year level

between 11:30 – 1:30. Students have also worked with their 2019 class teacher to set high expectations and begin

building relationships with students to better establish the best possible learning environment.

School Reports / Attendance….. Over the weekend, I spent time reading school reports. I always find it a rewarding

part of my job to reflect on the amazing achievements of all of our students throughout the year. Every year we look to

make our reports more efficient to inform parents of the learning gained throughout the year. If you have any feedback

regarding reports please let me know. Teachers spend hours of additional time to complete these reports and I know

they would want to produce something that parents understand and highlights our student’s learning. This year, with

our focus on attendance, we have added additional comments to our reports. These are system generated comments

based on the number of absences a child has had this semester. Obviously, from the range listed below our aim is to

have students absent for no more than 6 days across the year. Some students will have achieved a poor attendance rate

this year which we want to improve on for next year. We are also aware of individual cases and times where it has been

necessary for students to be away from school eg, illness. These are not taken into consideration when looking at these

results. The more parents are able to provide an explanation for a student absence the more information we will have

to tackle any attendance issues. As a school our primary focus will always remain on the teaching and learning of our

students.

Reflecting on 2018….. As we look back over the year and reflect on the progress we have made it reminds us of how

far we have come with our students. Next week I am attending grade 6 graduation to acknowledge the journey each of

our students has been on since prep. Students spend less than 1% of their lives in school and it always reminds me the

importance of making every minute of every day count. I am looking forward to the night, where the focus is on our

students, and as we finish off the year, ensuring that we celebrate the success of every student, before having a well-

deserved break and starting all over again next year!

Final Weeks….. All students will finish school on Thursday 20th December at 3:15pm, all students will resume on

Thursday 31st January 2019.
