Room 2 - Liz Smith

Mrs Slattery took advantage of Melbourne Cup Day to ‘trick’ us in tolearning about the mathematical concept of chance with our own horseraces.

The ‘magic’ beans and seeds in our class are growing at an alarming

rate and we have noticed changes in them every day. We are trackingtheir progress in our Seed Diaries and are remembering that plants needwater – not too much, not too little but juuuust the right amount. We’reso lucky at North Fremantle Primary School to have lots of excitingsettings to retell fairy tales and we’re making our own photo bookstories on computers and iPads.

The children are enjoying the ‘Daily10’ maths we are doing beforemorning fitness so a big thank youfor bringing your children on timeand an even bigger thank you forstaying to help (Lowanna J ).

Room 1 - Lisa Miller

On Wednesday we had a visit from Constable Care. Weexplored the different ways we can get to school, keeping safeas we walk, ride or travel in our car to school and being

responsible for our own safety. It was fun and we learnt a lot.

We have also been busyworking on ourcostumes for theFremantle festivalparade on Sunday.

We are so proud of the

final results. What doyou think?

Room 3 - Bev Lane

We have just been to see Constable Care. We discussed safe and unsafesecrets, the way we feel when we are scared and the people with whom wecan talk when we are worried about something. We are making posters to

remind everyone that we all have a right to feel safe. We thought about whowe could talk to if we had a problem and discussed the ‘olden days’ whenchildren were caned or smacked with a wooden spoon. This poster wasmade by Simba who made a bright and colourful poster.

Room 7 - Monica Parkes & Brent Snook

These last few weeks have been very busy in Room 7 and it has beengreat having Josie Roos, our student teacher, in the room with us.This week we finished our Four Roles of the Reader novels and forour culminating activity we will be making a movie trailer for ournovels using IMovies on the Ipads.

We looked at some trailers of popular movies and discussed thepositive and negative aspects of them and came up with a list ofcriteria that we will need to include in our trailers.

In our groups we began creating a Storyboard of the events we willinclude in our trailer and the sequence that they will shown. The discussions in the groups were amazing with a lot of talk about

who will play the characters, how the events will be depicted, themusic that will be suitable and the narration of the trailer.

 Room 4 - Rochelle Reeves

There is a lot of buzz and excitement in and around North Fremantle Primary School this week. The childrenhave been working hard on their fabulous costumes for the Fremantle Festival. Many of our class members

have been coming to the Sunday workshops to help with the float and put finishing touches on their owncostumes. It was amazing to see so many helpers. We can’t wait to see the results on Sunday.

Room 4 has been enjoying our money reward system. Students have been earning rewards for completingwork on-time and paying hire fees for equipment in the classroom. This has created a lot of meaningful andeducationally rich maths work with money exchange and counting in 5’s and 10’s. We have been learningabout income and expenditure. It has been a wonderful way to enrich our class maths program and improvebehavioural outcomes. We have also been enthusiastic about our Ten-A-Day maths challenge. Students havebeen using time before school and during class to complete 10 maths questions. This is boosting our mathsknowledge and application and is engaging more students in the fun of maths.

 Room 5 - Chris John

On Monday the 28th of October Pip Sivwright came intoRoom 5 to help us start our Science unit looking atweathering. Pip showed us the millions of years worth ofevidence located at Karijini, where the signs of rocksbreaking down due to wind and rain are everywhere. Wealso looked at forms of chemical weathering by putting

limestone in vinegar, causing it to break down and releasethe air trapped inside. We have also just completed ourresearch posters on countries from Africa and Europe.
