New CORS in CA•CSRC requested about 130 of the CRTN backbone sites to become NGS CORS; some already were•Essentially all but a handful were added to NGS CORS network in 2nd quarter, 2012

GEOID12A Development• Model is BASED on ellipsoid heights published from

NA2011 project• Proposed stations, different than for GEOID09, for

inclusion/exclusion were distributed to geodetic advisors for review & acceptance/rejection; eg, because location in subsidence area

• OPUS-DB results are included• To improve future geoid modeling– Collect GPS data on leveled BMs which are likely to have

been stable since they were leveled (1988)

HTDP, currently v. 3.2.3

• 4th option: Interactively transform positions between reference frames and/or dates.

• Epoch date format now includes deci-year• All NAD83 realizations are treated the same• Datum tag/epoch usage Start with NAD83(2011) 2010.00 as constraints in adjustment,Utilize HTDP to translates to epoch desired,Produce NAD83(2011) 2004.50 coordinates, for example

Datums available in VDATUM

Page 18: NGS Geodetic Tools and Education Services

VDATUM tips• Must choose Height rather than Sounding• Must choose Ht for Source AND Target• Longitude shown before latitude• Must use – for longitudeImprovements:Do not need to select geographic model regionMore streamlined interface for userHorizontal/geometric transformations also

The Changing Face of the Geodetic Advisor Program

What are we not? Geodentists…•How is it changing? We are…Baby boomers! Aging…RetiringFewer cooperative partners (states)can justify the financial agreementRecommendation from some many years ago was for Fedgov to fully fund Advisor programAdvisors to be located at NOAA or Fed office

Provide equal service to non-coop statesREGIONALIZATION15 advisors total for 50 states, PR, Pacific islandsRegions being discussed in NGS Advisory [email protected] is Chair (SAB Chief)Situated in a city with decent airport!Proposal includes “State Coordinator” as POCTransition in next 4 years, with attrition
