Sex Offender Notification PolicyNICC maintains procedures that facilitate the prompt notification of appropriate personnel of the presence of an employee or student who is a convicted sex offender. Enrollment decisions and/or attendance stipulations for registered sex offenders are based on the specific details of each case. Iowa Code Section 692A.3A states that registered sex offenders are required to notify the College of their status upon application to the College, enrollment in a non-credit College course or program, or at such time they are placed on a Sex Offender Registry during enrollment at the College. Failure to self-disclose at the time of acceptance or during enrollment could lead to dismissal from the College. In some instances, an individual may be required to obtain written permission from the College to enroll in courses or to continue in a particular program. Students are to notify the campus counselor.

CNA Testing SkillsThis registration is for the skills portion of the CNA State Competency Exam only. You must sign up for the written test separately, and successfully pass both the written and skills tests to be placed on the Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry. Forty-five minutes is allowed for the skills portion of the test. You will be assigned a “resident” and will be evaluated while you are performing nurse aide skills for them. You are required to achieve a 70% or better on the skills portion in order to pass the state exam. If you don’t receive the minimum score of 70%, you may take the skills exam up to three times total (on different days) in order to achieve a passing score. Lead Safe Renovator 8-Hour Lead Safe Renovator is a required certification through the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Lead Poisoning for anyone who disturbs more than 1 square foot of painted surface on a home or building built before 1978. The law went into effect April 22, 2010 and applies to all electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters and other tradesmen. This course is designed for those who currently do not hold the Lead Safe Renovator Certification. Coaching Authorization To coach K-12 school-sponsored athletics in Iowa, you must be certified. Northeast Iowa Community College offers courses that meet the State of Iowa requirements for coaching authorization certification. There are four modules that must be taken in order to apply for your coaching authorization: Human Growth and Development for Coaching, Coaching Theory and Techniques, Body Structure and Function, and Basic Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries. The Coaching Authorization class will cover all four of these areas. Attendance is required at all classes. To apply for your Coaching Authorization 1. Successfully complete the four coaching authorization classes. 2. Apply to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for your coaching authorization (a packet will be handed out at class for the application process).

and Family Literacy classes throughout northeast Iowa.

General Education Development (GED) The General Education Development (GED) program allows those who have not finished high school to earn a General Education Development Diploma from the State of Iowa. The diploma shows that individuals have achieved a level of educational development comparable to that of a high school graduate.

English Language English Language instruction is offered through the Adult Literacy Program to help people with limited English to learn the English language.

Adult Basic Education Adult Basic Education instruction is offered through the Adult Literacy Program to help people with limited or “rusty” academic skills. Tier 1 classes are vocationally-based and are designed for students with learning challenges, who want to build on their current skills. Tier 2 classes are academically oriented and are designed for students who want to “brush up” on skills that could help them in their daily lives, who need help in passing college entrance/ work-related exams or taking the GED.
