Ocean County College is honored and excited toserve as host for the 2016 New Jersey State Teen
Arts Festival this June 1-3. The Jay and Linda
Grunin Foundation – which supports the Grunin
Center for the Arts here on our main campus in
Toms River – is a proud sponsor of this terrific
annual event, for which we are expecting more than
3,000 students from throughout the state to
participate. At OCC, we endeavor to bolster arts
education, and enthusiastically support thedevelopment of young artists in New Jersey. We are thrilled to play a part
in this year’s collaboration of talented teenagers from our state’s middle
schools and high schools with professionals in the creative and performing
arts, in an environment designed for valuable critique, instruction, new
ideas, growth, and accomplishment. This state-level event, the culmination
of 14 separate countywide festivals in New Jersey, fosters the exciting
union of art, education, and possibility.
Message From Dr. Jon H. Larson
Message From Tony Petito
Tony Petito - Executive & Artistic Director, -
The Arts & Education Center.
For over forty years, Teen Arts Festivals at the
state and county levels have been the premiere
showcases for New Jersey's young artists,
providing unique educational opportunities forthe development of talented students and
celebration of their extraordinary artistic abilities.
The work on display at the New Jersey State
Teen Arts Festival was selected by coordinators
of thirteen different county festivals, who
recommended students to represent their counties
at this event. The Arts & Education Center is
proud to be presenting the State Festival. I would
like to thank our main sponsors; The Jay andLinda Grunin Foundation, The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and The New
Jersey State Council on the Arts. And our partner in presenting the Festival;
Ocean County College. Finally, I'd like to dedicate the Festival to our teen
artists and to the many arts educators on every level who have dedicated their
lives to developing young talent.

including 20 categories for competition, artist performances, workshops and a
college fair. We are excited to be able to bring the New Jersey Teen Arts
Festival back to life and look forward to this event getting bigger and better
each year.
Message From Jeremy Grunin
Message From Chris Daggett
Chris Daggett—President and Chief Executive
Officer - Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation
It takes the commitment of the nonprofit,
government, and philanthropic sectors working
together to ensure that every New Jersey child has an
opportunity to receive a quality, sequential artseducation. Too often the arts have been cut from
schools during the recent economic downturn. The
irony is that the arts are key subjects that teach the
very skills necessary to help our nation overcome
current and future challenges -- creativity, critical-
thinking, communications, empathy, collaboration,
problem-solving, risk -taking, and learning from failure. The Dodge
Foundation is proud to be part of the collaborative effort of so many leaders to
bring back the statewide Teen Arts Festival. We celebrate the hard work andvision of district and school leaders and teachers who have fought to bring arts
to their students. We are especially grateful to the Jay and Linda Grunin
Foundation for its catalytic lead gift. While we believe that simply
participating in the county and state level festivals brings a multitude of
rewards, we are pleased that the Geraldine R. Dodge Scholarships Best of the
Festival Awards will bring additional encouragement for students and teachers
to continue the hard work that leads to artistic excellence and societal impact.
