VISION:

Our Bulldog Block was created as a pilot program to remediate academic deficits, motivate students to come to school and enrich students through various activities offered by our teachers. Students will get an opportunity to remediate for the Keystone Exams to be better prepared for the retest or complete the Project Based Assessment (PBA). Students taking Honors Courses can choose content specific courses to obtain extra help with course materials and also obtain enrichment with additional materials not covered in the courses. They can also choose activities that they cannot participate in due to their many commitments after school. Students also have selections that support brain research in participating in physical activities that result in improved academic achievement in their academic classes. The result of these opportunities will result in a more involved student body, student-centered environment and academic success.

Did you skip breakfast this morning? Physicians and nutritionist both stress that breakfast is the most important meal of the day! If you are interested in learning to make quick and easy breakfast foods, then the Breakfast Club is the Bulldog Block for you. The Breakfast Club will create easy breakfast foods in the kitchen lab that can be made in 30 minutes or less and enjoyed by every member of the club.

This course is designed for students with any level of creative writing experience who are open to thinking outside of the box to tap into their creativity. This course examines comedy through American history from the time period from 1934 to 1948. This course is not merely designed to entertain; it also serves to inform students of the many important historical events of this epochal period. Important events such as the Great Depression and the rise of Hitler (the Stooges in 1940 were the first to actively take on Adolf Hitler in their spoof You Nutzi Spy). Issues such as social and cultural stereotypes will also be examined in considerable detail. The significance of slang terms, and cultural mores provide a fascinating sociological perspective through which to view this particular time period.

To keep our brains at peak performance, our bodies need to work hard. Science of exercise cues the building blocks of learning in the brain; affects mood, anxiety, and attention. Keep your mind and body in top condition by playing Ultimate Frisbee! Ultimate Frisbee, also known as “Ultimate”, is a limited-contact team field sport played with a flying disc, usually called the “disc” or “Frisbee”. Points are scored by passing the disc to a teammate in the opposing end zone.

Have you ever wondered what happens “behind the scenes” during a theatre production? Stagecraft is intended for students who are interested in being a part of the stage crew or technical crew for events held in the High School auditorium. Students will be given the opportunity to pick an area of interest, including design, lighting, sound, etc. Major events for Stagecraft students include helping to adjust curtains and move set pieces for the high school fall play and spring musical. Students who choose the technical crew remain in the balcony to operate follow spots, the lighting board, the sound board and video camera. Throughout the school year, the high school Stagecraft students may also be asked to assist with A-V needs for other programs here at NLHS, such as administrative assemblies and outside organizations visiting for special performances.

SWING DANCING MR. NONE Swing was big in the 1920s-1950s. The Swing Club will

GEROULD primarily focus on "East Coast Swing" of the 1940s which is a simple 6-count dance that can be used for slow, medium, or fast tempo jazz, blues, or rock-n-roll. Don't be a wallflower for prom or farewell... learn to swing!

We will be prepping our brain for the day’s challenges by cycling around the school campus and neighborhood.

This course is for those who are enthusiasts of Penn State University. In this club we discuss the current events of university athletic programs. We will discuss the local presence that influences and participates as Nittany Lions. The storied history and tradition is the back bone of the Nittany Nation; Therefore, we will look at the history of the university and how it has influenced the state of Pennsylvania. As a fan of mathematics, we will also discuss the statistics of the teams throughout the seasons and how it relates to the Big Ten and the NCAA. We would also look to complete some service projects around the grounds of Northern Lehigh and the surrounding community to help promote conservation and habitat, as well as awareness.

Do you like being in the “Spotlight”? Are you ready for your 15 minutes of “fame”? Ready, Set, Action! is for students that enjoy expressing ideas and emotions through acting. Students will gain and practice acting skills such as, movement, voice, expression, and creativity through various theatre games and improvisations. Props and costumes will be used to create unique characters. Students will critique various forms of classical and modern theatre, television, and movies. The stage will be used for students to become familiar with theatre terms and procedures. Ready, Set, Action!-students are encouraged to participate in the high school fall play and spring musical (although not required).

Scrapbooking is a hobby that preserves personal and family history in the form of a scrapbook. Typical memorabilia include photographs, printed media, and artwork. The building enhancement team is intended for students with a pride for our school community. They will develop projects to improve specific spaces of the school both inside and out. They will work to make our school an orderly and welcoming place for all visitors including students, teachers, and community members. The team will complete various projects such as touching up and creating new murals, seasonal décor, informational bulletin boards for various subjects, etc.

Even a couple minutes of exercise done throughout the day can offer health benefits and, more importantly, mental health benefits. So why not start your day off right with a healthy game of Cone Ball? Cone ball is played like standard dodgeball except that each team of 2 has a cone in the middle of their designated area. Once your cone is knocked over, your team is out. The game ends when only one team remains. Join this activity to prepare your brain for the challenges of the day while fine-tuning your use of game strategies, physical skills, and having fun!
