    JCI CONCEPT AND HISTORY

    I. How It Began

    The origin of Junior Chamber can be traced as far backas 1910, in the city of St Louis, Missouri, United Statesof America. A young man by the name of Henry

    Giessenbier, a bank cashier, felt that young peopleacting in a voluntary capacity could fashion a newstandard of life for their communities.

    On October 13, 1915, he called for a meeting with 32young men present, and an organization was formedunder the name of "Young Men's Progressive CivicAssociation". It was mainly for the communitybetterment.

    II. History of JCIM

    The Junior Chamber movement was introduced toMalaysia (then the Federation of Malaysia) in 1954.

    Junior Chamber in Sarawak and Junior Chamber in

    Sabah were affiliated to Junior Chamber International in1956 and in 1963 respectively.

    Junior Chamber Peninsular Malaysia, Junior ChamberSarawak and Junior Chamber Sabah were then identified

    as three different National Organization (NOMs) directlyaffiliated to Junior Chamber International.

    II. History of JCIM

    On 11th October 1975, Junior Chamber Malaysia was formedwith the signing of a Merge Agreement between the threeseparate national organizations in Kuala Lumpur. A Protem

    Board of Directors under the chairmanship of JCI Senator V TNathan, Past President of Kuala Lumpur Junior Chamber wasfounded.

    In 1976 Junior Chamber Malaysia obtained temporaryregistration from the Registrar of Societies to operate.

    The 1st National Convention was held in 1976 itself inKuala Lumpur. At this National Convention,JCI Senator George Chang was elected the FirstNational President.

    JCI is a membership-based nonprofit organization ofyoung active citizens ages 18 to 40 in more than 100countries who are dedicated to creating positive changein their communities.

    JCI is not about what you get, its about what you give.

    what status they hold in society. The government mustbe based on constitutional law, accepted and ratified bya majority of the people. "In a free society,thefundamental law is derived from the people.It is they
