– The module will illustrate methodologies to analyse different communities of practice and learning needs and behaviours.

– The module provides a conceptual framework for digital libraries, illustrating the relationship between people, content and technologies; it is based on research and experiences of digital libraries in a worldwide and universal context.

Unit 4Information Architecture
This course introduces the intellectual foundations of information organization and retrieval in web’s environment: basic concepts, organization systems, labeling systems, navigation systems, search systems and controlled vocabularies, as well as methodological strategies for information architecture implementation.
Unit 5Digital Preservation
This course offers an overview of the myriad challenges to preserving the digital resources found in virtually every library collection, including both “born digital” objects and those that result from digitization projects of documents in traditional formats.
Learning Objectives :
• To understand the main challenges for guaranteeing access to digital information over time.• To understand the institutional and economic implications for libraries assuming responsibility for preserving access to digital information.• To be aware of the major initiatives taking place on an international scale to stem the loss of digital information.
