    PURPOSE OF WORKS

Due to the existing Noi Bai International Airport

already surpassing its designed capacity in 2007, the

construction of passenger terminal 2 of Noi Bai

international airport which is capable to

    accommodate 10 million international passengers

per annum is one of the most important transport

infrastructure projects being implemented in order to

contribute to the economic and social development

    of Hanoi and all Vietnam.

The terminal 2 is a 4-storied international passenger

terminal building with floor area of approximately

    139,216 m2, fully equipped with electro-mechanical

and other facilities was awarded to Taisei-Vinaconex

    Joint Venture.

Due to the piling package tight construction

schedule, the package was divided between two

subcontractors. Bauer Vietnam Ltd. has been

awarded as specialist subcontractor for more than

50% of foundation works for the main building and

the east-wing building consisting of 256 bored piles.

    SOIL / ROCK CONDITION

First 20m below ground level is mainly sandy clayfollowing with eluvium derived from in-situ weathered

    rock and bed rock underneath.

Design of this building adopted a one-column-one-

pile foundation system which requires a high

capacity of pile in both vertical and horizontal. In

consideration of that all the piles are designed to

socket 6m in bed rock which is up to 20MPa in

    unconfined compressive strength.

Foundation of the building consists of bored piles

with diameter varying from 800 to 1500mm and

length varying from 25 to 40m.

    CONSTRUCTION WORKS & SPECIAL FEATURES

One high performance drilling rigs model BG 40 and

one smaller model BG 28 have been deployed to

optimize of the overall performance, whereas the

other subcontractor on this Project utilise an

assortment of eight different drilling rigs for the

    works.

Bauer with the appropriate equipment and tools, an

experienced site team has also been deployed

together with well planning and strong logistics,

managed to complete our whole works including all

variations well ahead of the contract schedule

helping the Main Contractor to recover their loss time

    schedule caused by others.
