(Aunty Joan Hendriks Reconciliation Award)

I N T R O D U C T I O N

The Spirit of Catholic Education Awards, including the Aunty Joan Hendriks Spirit of Catholic Education Reconciliation Award, are presented annually as part of Catholic Education Week (CEW) celebrations.

The awards aim to recognise individuals who are making an outstanding contribution within the Catholic education community.

The Aunty Joan Hendriks Spirit of Catholic Education Reconciliation Award recognises an outstanding contribution to Reconciliation. Indigenous and non-Indigenous members of Catholic education communities are encouraged to nominate for this award.

The awards are supported by the QT Mutual Bank (QTMB), the Australian Catholic Superannuation and Retirement Fund (ACSRF) and the Australian Catholic University, the sponsors of CEW.

A R E A S F O R N O M I N AT I O N

Catholic school communities and other Catholic education agencies in Queensland are invited to nominate individuals in the community (staff member, parent, clergy or volunteer) who are making an outstanding contribution to the life of the community in at least one of the following areas:

• initiating a program and/or activity in response to a need

• leading and facilitating for change and improvement

• demonstrating excellence in their work

• engaging in exceptionally life-giving relationships with students, colleagues or other members of the school community or Catholic education agency

• advancing Reconciliation (for consideration for the Aunty Joan Hendriks Reconciliation Award).

Nominations should address one or more of the above areas and recognise that the individual being nominated goes above and beyond their usual area of work.

Please note that the awards are for individuals only and nomination of groups will not be considered.

N O M I N AT I O N P R O C E S S

Nominations must be submitted electronically or in hard copy using the Spirit of Catholic Education Awards 2017 nomination form located on the Catholic Education Week website.

All nominations must include the name of the nominator and the names of two (2) referees who are familiar with the person being nominat-ed and with the details of the nomination. The judging panel may contact these referees.

The nominations must also be endorsed by one of the following as appropriate:

a. if the person nominated is a member of a Catholic school/college community the nomination must be endorsed by the school/college principal.

b. if the person nominated is a principal of a Catholic school/college the nomination must be endorsed by a member of the school/college leadership team.

c. if the person nominated is a director/member of a Catholic education agency the nomination must be endorsed by a member of the Catholic education agency leadership team.

Nominations from diocesan Catholic schools/education agencies should be forwarded electronically to the diocesan contacts listed at the end of this form.

Nominations from Religious Institute/PJP Schools/education agencies should be forwarded electronically to the relevant QCEC contact listed at the end of this form.

Nominations for the Aunty Joan Hendriks Reconciliation Award should be forwarded electronically to the QCEC contact listed at the end of this form.

Closing date for nominations is 5.00pm, Friday 12 May 2017. Nominations received after this date will not be eligible for consideration for the 2017 awards.

All persons nominated will be considered by the judging panels in accordance with the areas for nomination listed in the previous section.

The diocesan/QCEC office representative will acknowledge receipt of the nomination form via email to the contact person submitting the nomination.

If a member of a judging panel is nominated for an award and accepts the nomination, that person must be excused from the judging panel and a replacement panel member appointed. Nominations from diocesan schools and authorities will be short-listed/selected by a Diocesan Judging Panel, or in the case of nominees from Religious Institute/PJP schools by a panel convened by QCEC. Nominations for the Aunty Joan Hendriks Reconciliation Award should be forwarded to QCEC for judging by a state-wide panel.

Diocesan Directors will endorse the nomination of the selected award recipient for that diocese.

Those selected will be contacted by a member of the panel to confirm that they are willing to accept the award.

In the weeks prior to the launch of Catholic Education Week, all persons nominated will receive a congratulatory letter from the Executive Director, QCEC. A certificate in recognition of their nomination will also be forwarded to the Principal/Director of the school/agency for presentation during Catholic Education Week if possible. At this time the recipients of the awards will also be contacted personally but will not be publicly announced until just prior to the official state launch of Catholic Education Week on Wednesday 26 July 2017.

Recipients of the Spirit of Catholic Education Awards 2017 and the Aunty Joan Hendriks Spirit of Catholic Education Reconciliation Award 2017 will be invited to attend the official state launch of Catholic Education Week in Cairns on Wednesday 26 July 2017. Travel and accommodation costs for recipients to attend the launch will be met through the sponsorship arrangement with QTMB, ACSRF and ACU.

Principals/Directors of the recipients' school or agency and those who have nominated the recipients will also be invited to attend the launch at their own expense.

Recipients of the Spirit of Catholic Education Awards 2017 and the Aunty Joan Hendriks Spirit of Catholic Education Reconciliation Award 2017 will receive a memento and a grant of $500 to support and further the work in their school community for which they are being recognised.
