On November 24, the awards ceremony for the 22nd Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards 2014 (APIDA) was held in Hong Kong. Organized by the Hong Kong Interior Design Association (HKIDA), APIDA evaluates interior design projects from standpoints such as their innovation, functionality and spatial planning. For 22 years, APIDA has been promoting professional standards and ethics among interior design practices operating in the Asia Pacific region and continues to give recognition to interior design projects and designers. Following two awards NOMURA received last year for the W Guangzhou FEI and PALACE HOTEL TOKYO Wadakura, this year NOMURA entered four projects in APIDA in a number of categories from hotel to installation spaces. There were more than 600 entries from Asia in this year’s contest, with one Gold, Silver, and Bronze Award as well as two Excellence Awards and five Best 10 Awards given in each of 10 categories. The TOYOTA Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology by Mitsuhide Yoshinaga, Creative Communication Department, received the Excellence Award in the Public Space category. In the Hotel Space category, The Prince Sakura Tower Tokyo by Ryu Kosaka, Aoyama Nomura Design (A.N.D.), and Masao Nemoto, Commercial Facilities Department, and the Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk Brasserie and Lounge SEALA and Chapel AURA by Keita Aono, Commercial Facilities Department, received the Best 10 Awards. Tokyo Michiterasu 2013, Railway of the Light to Continue to Tomorrow by Ryuji Tsuyama, Creative Communication Department, received the Best 10 Award in the Installation and Exhibition Space category. These awards give recognition in Asia to Japanese design driven by high-level craftsmanship and concepts and, following awards in Japan, also signify the strong evaluation of NOMURA’s designs in overseas awards contests. On November 24, the awards ceremony for the 22nd Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards 2014 (APIDA) was held in Hong Kong. Organized by the Hong Kong Interior Design Association (HKIDA), APIDA evaluates interior design projects from standpoints such as their innovation, functionality and spatial planning.

Many people lost their hometowns in the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. This work appeared in front of Tokyo Station, which connects east and west, for six nights starting Christmas Eve 2013 and attracted more than 500,000 people. It aimed to connect people's thoughts to the disaster-affected Tohoku region as a railway of light extending up to the night sky and illuminating the way "home" – a concept intimately familiar to all Japanese.

The Prince Sakura Tower TokyoTokyo, Japan

Shinagawa is a Tokyo neighborhood that flourished historically as a gateway to Japan and now thrives as a gateway to the world. Representing Shinagawa's crossing of people and cultures using crosses and weaving motifs in traditional Japanese patterns and latticework and showcasing its rare urban Japanese garden, the renovation project successfully resuscitates an established hotel.

This museum shows the trajectory of Kiichiro Toyoda, founder of Toyota, as he struggled and succeeded to build a business where cars could be built from scratch in Japan and the starting point, which has lived on as the “DNA” of Toyota. The museum has a unique stage-like presentation, provided as comic strips to tie the exhibition spaces together.
