GREETINGS FROM BARON OTTO AND BARONESSA LISABETTA
Unto the Populace of this “The Grand Barony of Atenveldt” doth Baron Otto and
Baronessa Lisabetta send warm greetings and well wishes. ESTRELLA WAR is now many memories of the old friends we saw again and the new ones we made. We hope you have as many memories as we do and that you enjoyed your time spent at the War! We would like to thank all the members of the Barony that gave of their time to help the War run smoothly. Your donations to the Barony are very much appreciated. And once you get those volunteering taste buds active, Your Barony needs you!! We have many openings for deputies and officers to assist in the running of the barony. Please see the Want Ads in this Palm Prints and take the time to ask questions if you are interested in any of the positions. We’d love to have you take a more active role in helping to run Your Barony. We welcome all to help in the running of this Barony. Many hands make light work. Thank you to Lady Arianna for all her help with the “Tournament of Skill Seige against Cancer” Tournament. A grand time was had by all who attended and competed.
Our Bardic competition on Saturday night brought bards from many Kingdoms. We would like to Thank our Bardic Champion Lord Thome Spyle Syngere for organizing this fine event. Huzzah!! Baron Otto will be traveling to Gulf Wars in March. Baroness Lisabetta will be undergoing surgery and will be unable to attend events for several weeks in March. In closing, a few final thoughts: Have Fun! Take care of each other. Spend a few moments to meet someone new. And, remember why you got into the SCA ~ enjoy yourself~ We remain in service to this “The Grand Barony of Atenveldt”

Hello to the populous of Atenveldt. M'lady Linda and Lord Michael of Kilkenny, both members of House Inverted, will soon be running coursing for the barony. If you haven't seen coursing before or don't know what it is, allow me to explain. This is a chance to show your dogs off, and give them a great workout. A coursing track pulls a lure for the dog to chase. Corners are added or removed to augment the difficulty. The machine runs the lure around the track and controls the speed so that any dog may have a chance to catch it's prize. It's great fun for the animal and owner alike. Pending approval we will be running coursing at as many baronial and kingdom events as possible. HOWEVER, a coursing set is a large expense and we are asking for your help in purchasing the equipment, which costs about $800. Chancellor of the Youth Chancellor of the Youth Chancellor of the Youth Chancellor of the Youth (Open until Filled) The young are the future of the SCA but without activities to provide them diversions at events they will have no desire to continue in the SCA. To that end the Barony is seeking a Chancellor of the Youth. The office is responsible for coordinating youth activities and ensuring compliance of the youths and their guardians with Society policies in coordination with the Seneschal staff at events. The job is what you would make of it and benefits from a large selection of deputies. As part of the ongoing improvements in the Society youth activity programs volunteer can expect a background check to be conducted by the SCA. Please contact the Seneschal for specific details of the background check program and what the background check would involve if this causes any concern. If you are interested in the Office as the Chancellor or as a deputy please contact the Seneschal and their Excellencies with a letter of intent detailing your experience and the role you wish to assume.

My Lords and Ladies please join us at The Barony of Atenveldt’s Spring Carnival. There will
be a variety of activities for the populace of all ages.
There will be a series of tournaments held throughout the day. One of these tournaments will be a Crest Helm Tourney. In all tourneys each fighter will need a consort (or borrow one) to
inspire them. More details will follow as the event nears.
The youth combatants will be having there own Pas d' Arms Tournament, so please bring your
armor.
What would a spring event be without a hunt for eggs to bring joy to our little ones? We will be having two separate egg hunts the first will be for youths 6 to 12 years of age, the second will
be for ages 1-5. Please bring your baskets and come to have fun.
Artisan Corner- learn new Skills - ongoing classes during the event, work on ongoing projects and for the children hands on crafts. There will also be an area in which to display completed projects. Please contact Lady Angelika von Schwaben if you are willing to teach a class on
anything at [email protected]
Don’t forget to enter in the embroidery competition, all supplies will be provided on site.
There will be a Spring Basket Lunch auction. Decorate your basket to fit the season and fill it with a delicious lunch for two. A prize will be awarded to the most creative basket. If you do
not wish to participate in the auction please bring your own lunch and join us for a picnic.
Cookies, Brownies and Cakes oh my! Bring your fine baked goods for our Bake sale.
Find some great bargains at the Silent Auction. A variety of fine goods will be available. Take
home a treasure and help support your Barony!
Do you have fabric that hasn’t spoken to you yet, buttons you won’t use, Garb that doesn’t fit, Armor that you can’t use? Then bring it with you, there will be an area set up to do your own
bartering with your fellow populace.
This is a wet site. Pets are allowed, on leashes. Please bring your pop-ups for shade, staking will be permitted. Just a reminder minimal Donations for all activities, so don’t forget your Dollars! If you have any questions or would like to make a donation for the auction please

—Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) It is with the common desire to study, learn, and apply new skills that the Kingdom of Atenveldt is announcing the 2009 Arts & Sciences Collegium. This years Collegium will take place in the Barony of Atenveldt, at Washington High School, which is located just East of I-17 and Glendale Ave. in Phoenix.
Currently we are looking for suggestions on classes, teachers, volunteers to help in
the running of the event, and any other support or input that you would like to give. More information about this event, as well as teacher sign-up forms, will be posted on the Kingdom A&S Website soon. Until then, please feel free to email me directly. Please return all suggestions or class requests to me by March 31st. We are asking teachers to sign-up for classes by April 25th. Each bird added to the “bird” half (involving at the same time the de-duction there of one beast) produces a diminution of 2 in the number of feet.
There being 180 heads (i.e. 180 creatures in all), if all had been birds they would have had 360 feet. If all had been beasts, they would have had 720 feet. It is clear, therefore, that there were some of each. Suppose the numbers equal, the feet woul then count as under: 90 birds: 180 feet 90 beasts: 360 feet (being an excess of 40 Over the stated number.) As the equal division gives an excess of 40 feet, we must therefore deduct 20 beasts and add 20 birds. This gives us 90 + 20 = 110 birds — 220 feet 90 - 20 = 70 beasts — 280 feet ————————-- 180 500

consorts to submit Letters of Intent to participate in Their March 7, 2009 Crown Tournament.
Letters must be received by the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal no later than Saturday,
February 7, 2009. See the Regnum in Southwind or on www.atenveldt.org for email and mail
addresses.
Please do NOT send letters with “signature required” for delivery as this may delay
receipt and cause you to miss the deadline.

“Lex Atenveldtus” Requirements For Crown Lists
X. Crown Tournament
A. The requirements to enter and to be represented in the Crown Lists are as follows:
1. To fulfill the requirements as stated in Corpora - specifically, both fighter and
consort must be members of the SCA and must remain members throughout
their tenure and reign. Positive confirmation that the Office of the Registry has
received the membership application is required before anyone may be
permitted to fight, or be fought for, in a Crown List.
2. To have resided within the Kingdom of Atenveldt for twelve months immediately
prior to and to have been active in the SCA for the twelve months immediately
prior to the Crown Tournament.
3. To have reigned as Crown, Coronet, or as a Territorial Baron or Baroness, or
served actively as a warranted officer for an official group in the SCA, for
at least six months.
4. The fighter and consort must submit a Letter of Intent to the Crown and Kingdom
Seneschal thirty days prior to the tournament. This letter must include all of the
following:
a. Proof of membership for the fighter and consort, or a membership number
and membership expiration date that can be confirmed on an SCA Registry
Membership list on the day the letter is received.
b A copy of the fighter’s SCA Authorization Card, or an Atenveldt Fighter
Authorization Card number for the fighter that can be confirmed on the
Kingdom Marshallate Rolls on the day the letter is received.
c. For participation in Fall Crown Tournament, the letter must contain a
statement that the combatant and/or consort will attend Estrella War Treaty
Negotiations to negotiate the Treaty for the Estrella War where They will

Reign as Crown of Atenveldt.
5. The fighter and consort must have a name and device passed OR submitted to the
College of Heralds thirty days prior to the tournament.
6. To remain residents in the Kingdom throughout their tenure and reign.
7. To familiarize themselves with Corpora and Kingdom Law and to be willing to
swear on their honor that, should they win, they believe themselves to be
competent to hold the Crown of Atenveldt.
8. To be at least eighteen years of age.
9. Must have a regular means of quick communication and a dependable means of
transportation should they win.
10. Must be prepared to be responsible for the expenses incurred during the reign as
the Crown.
11. To be acceptable unto the Crown of Atenveldt.
12. The unbelted combatant must have a belted fighter willing to speak for him/her at
the time of the Crown List.
13. To be willing to swear an oath of Fealty to the Crown of Atenveldt and to the Kingdom should they win. If for any reason, a fighter or consort can not swear an oath of Fealty, they must submit in writing to the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal an alternate oath that is agreeable to all parties. This alternate oath must be received by the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal one week prior to the Crown Tournament. Should the fighter or consort who has submitted the oath win the tournament, they will not be able to accept oaths of Fealty from, or give oaths of Fealty to, the Landed Royalty, the Peers, any officers, or the populace.

Help Wanted AdsHelp Wanted AdsHelp Wanted AdsHelp Wanted Ads Kingdom Exchequer of Atenveldt The Crown, and the Kingdom Exchequer of Atenveldt are soliciting applications for the
position of Kingdom Exchequer of Atenveldt. This is a two-year warranted position.
The Kingdom Exchequer reports to the Society Exchequer, and is in charge of all financial
activities for Kingdom accounts. The Exchequer compiles financial information reported to the
Kingdom Financial Committee.
The position requires an ability to tactfully work with Royalty, Officers, Baronial & Shire
Exchequers, Estrella War Staff, and members of the populace; an understanding of the
implementation of SCA financial guidelines in the Society Financial Policy, Kingdom Law and
Kingdom financial policy; strong writing and organizational skills; word processing and email
skills; and a computer and printer with Internet access (most communication is via email). Prior
experience as an Exchequer or Great Officer for a Local group is very helpful, as is real-world
management and personnel experience.
Applications should include an SCA resume, and an outline of applicable real world
experience.

Send the documents requested by that form, (picture ID and proof of membership) to the Kingdom Chancellor of the Exchequer.
