Ten year old Emma Wren, who has never had her hair cut, has decided to finally have it cut off and donated to a wig company for use by children affected by cancer. In an exclusive interview with the County Leader, Emma, from Bride’s Glen in Swords, spoke about how the idea came about in the first place. “I go to school at Swords Educate Together National School, and we have a ‘Run for the Cure’ event for cancer every year. I began to understand about the effects of cancer and what it can do.” Then her grand-uncle died from cancer and her nana lost her hair through chemotherapy. “When I saw my nana without her hair, I was very sorry and sad for her. Then I saw a young girl on facebook without any hair, who was suffering from cancer, just like my nana and I felt really sad,” she said. It was then that big hearted Emma decided that she wanted to donate her hair, so that it could be used as a wig for children suffering from cancer, who need it. Her mother, Helen advised her to wait a while, as Emma was only ten years old and her hair had never been cut before. Her beautiful long hair is her pride and joy, but her resolve was strong. “After a few weeks, Emma had not changed her mind, so her father, Karl and I agreed to let her go ahead. We then looked into the Rapunzel Foundation and found out how to proceed. A child’s hair is perfect for a child’s wig, as the texture is perfect, unlike adult hair, which is much coarser,” said Helen. Emma will have her hair cut specially by a hair- dresser in Raheny. It takes 15 to 20 full pony tails to make a wig for a girl. The cutting will take place in the next few weeks and the hair will be sent to the Rapunzel Foundation in Wexford. This is a charitable organisation, where people commit to growing their hair to help make much needed wigs to improve the lives of those living with the hair loss. From there, the hair will be transported to New Zealand to be made into the precious wigs, which are really expen- sive to make, as they don’t come off. In the meantime, Emma is involved with fundraising for cancer through the ‘Run for the Cure’ and “Bun for the Cure’ initia- tives. She also has a sponsor- ship card drawn up for her hair donation and has already collected 500 to be donated to various cancer charities. Emma is understandably apprehensive about it. “I feel very excited, yet nervous, but I know my hair will be going to a great cause and will help some child who needs it more than me,” said a caring Emma. Her parents, Karl and Helen and her family and friends are rightly very proud of this kind hearted young girl, whose only thoughts are for those worse off than herself. By Patrick Finnegan Young Emma Wren shows off her beautiful long hair in the company of her mother, Helen. Last year, an apparent stand-off between the County Council and a property developer caused huge concern for residents in a Lusk estate. Hundreds of resi- dents in the Dun Emer estate were hugely upset that their grass had not been cut for months. Now, almost a year later, the situation remains virtually the same. According to residents the situation has become a matter of “huge frustra- tion” and locals are at their wits end. In July last year, when this matter was originally brought to the County Leader’s attention, Property developer O’Dwyer Nolan was given a list of snags, which when we contacted them, were told they would be taken care of “as a matter of priority.” However, an email from a very concerned resident informs us that these matters are no nearer to being solved than they were all those months ago. Part of the condi- tion of the council taking over the estate, is that the grass is cut and maintained, and a Deed of Dedication is signed between the council and the developer. This involves the legal transfer of maps from the developer to the local authority and also ensures that there will never be any develop- ment on the open spaces. Local man, Gavin Dunleavy says that he thinks O’Dwyer Nolan is purposely blocking this process as they are now in NAMA and the substantial bond that he would have received from the Council upon completing the take over of the estate will go to NAMA, not him. “I have been told by the local authority that they are awaiting maps from the developer and as soon as they receive these maps, the taking in charge process will be complete. The situation is so frustrating.” Local councillor, Ken Farrell (Lab), who set out to get this matter resolved last year, fully agrees that this delay tactic seems entirely plausible. “This would explain the developer’s delay in allowing the Council to take over the estate and meanwhile it is still the residents who suffer. The Council are more than happy to take over the public mainte- nance of the estate, but the deed must be signed by the developer first.” “The grass was cut once last year, but hasn’t been cut or maintained at all in the meantime, which is just unacceptable and such a threat to health and safety,” Farrell continued. “It’s not right that Lusk residents should be the ones to suffer because the devel- oper will not act.” By Jennifer McShane Lusk Residents Still Suffering Cllr. Last weekend, St Sylvester’s GAAclub in Malahide proudlyannounced the official sod turningof their much-anticipated new ballwall at the playing pitches inBroomfield. With actual construc-tion starting on May 20th, the clubalso launched its Buy-a-Brickcampaign to help raise funds andkick-start development of the club’splaying facilities.Supported by The National Lottery, the County Council, private dona-tions and fundraising by clubmembers, the wall, when built, willbe 30 metres wide, five metres highand will be complimented by a 60metre floodlit playing area. The late Tim Stack and his love ofhurling have provided the inspira-tion for the wall that will be dedi-cated in his honour. Tim, originallyfrom Limerick settled in Malahideand was instrumental in introducing

hurling to St Sylvester’s GAA. Hejourneyed far and wide collectingplayers to field teams in the earlyyears. His other great love, hisfamily, will honour him and hiscontribution to the local communityand the sport he loved by dedi-cating the wall to him.Launched in tandem with the ballwall was the club’s “Buy-a-brick”campaign to help fund the wall andupgrade facilities. Patrons can, foras little as €20, essentially “buy abrick” for the wall and help invest inthe future of the club. A ‘virtual-wall’ will be created on the clubwebsite naming each patron by wayof gratitude. Mel McIntyre, ClubChairman told the County Leader:“We are very excited about this newball wall. Funds raised will gotowards providing sports facilitiesfor our community, our children andfuture generations. This facility willbe a major addition to the club’sfacilities for both football andhurling. It will be especially impor-tant for the development of skills inour juvenile players.”

Rotary Clubs across the island of Ireland called on members of the public to donate anyold currency Irish, British or foreign (coin and notes) they may have had during themonth of October last year. O’Leary Wants Answers OnRush Sewage ProblemAt the recent Swords/Balbriggan area meeting onThursday 9th May last, Cllr Tom O’Leary (FG) calledfor a suspension to discuss the sewage crisis inRush, which has hit national media recently. He isdeeply unhappy with the current situation. Seniorcouncil officials attended the meeting, and for thefirst time outlined frankly what the scale of thisproblem is. “The situation is getting absolutelyridiculous. It existed all through the boom yearswhen thousands of houses werebuilt in Rush, and it was notaddressed by the last FiannaFail/Green government despitehaving “buckets of our money tofix it,” and also having a greenagenda, with the green party inGovernment. Shame on them,“O’Leary said furiously. As a result of this meeting, the County Council hasissued a detailed plan to address the issue. “Thereare three separate contacts for works andpumping stations that need to be progressed, andthe price tag on those contracts is a substantialamount of €7 million. Even if money was approved,it would take four to five years to cease pumping raw sewage into the sea off Rush.”“The Department of Environment must prioritiseRush. We cannot have the town hitting the nationalheadlines as one of only four locations out of 136nationwide that failed the mandatory EnvironmentalProtection Agency standards on Quality of Bathing Water in Ireland, this is a serious publichealth issue.” “I commend members of Rush Community Councilwho continue to raise this issue with me, and I willlobby to get funding released for this as a priority,”he concluded.

Year two of the renewed three-year Gum LitterTaskforce (GLT) campaign was launchedrecent ly by County Mayor, Cl l r C ianO’Callaghan. Last year the GLT campaignachieved a 28 per cent reduction in gum litternationally. A nationwide on-street attitudesand awareness survey also showed there wasa significant improvement in public percep-tion, with gum that is irresponsibly disposed, clearly viewed as ‘litter’ by those surveyed. The campaign aims to reduce gum litter byraising awareness amongst the public thatdropping gum on the ground is littering andcarries a €150 fine. The GLT campaign encour-ages the public to dispose of their used gumresponsibly. Speaking at the launch,Councillor O Callaghantold the CountyLeader : “It is heart-ening to see localauthorities, industryand the general publicworking together tomake a tangible differ-ence to the NorthCounty’s streets andother towns. whole community.“This is encouragingtourists to have a look atMalahide once more. Iwant people to comeand have a look, we’regoing to extraordinarylengths to makeMalahide even morespecial than it is,” he

said. “My daughters Mia and Erinwere really the main inspirationbehind the idea.” Afterresearching different trainmodels, Michael pushed forwardwith his idea and said hereceived great support from IrishRail and local community groups. He says he hopes to officially

launch the train on the weekend of May 24th.At the road trial was Cllr Eoghan O’Brien (FF), whosays he looks forward to seeing the train up andrunning. “There’s a lot of traffic going into thecastle and Avoca and it would really help link upthe castle to the village. There would be hugebenefits for the business and tourism in Malahidevillage itself,” he added. The train will have twocarriages with 18 seats in each, including one withwheelchair access. The route will take its passen-gers from Malahide Castle, through MalahideVillage and back to the castle and will operate from9.30am to 4.30pm midweek, and 9am to 6pm atweekends.

Rush Students Send LettersOf Protest To Council

Following the recent announcement by theCounty Council that they would be slashingthe opening hours of Rush library, concernedp a r e n t s a n d p u p i l s a n d s t a f f f r o m t w oschools in the area have written many lettersof protest and personally delivered them tothe County Council offices in Swords. Concerned Rush resident, Ruth Kilgarriffattended a recent protest meeting held in thearea and offered to liaise with the differentschools in Rush. “One of the ideas whichcame from that meeting was to start a letterwriting campaign among school pupils andlibrary users,” she told the County Leader. “Isaid I would contact St. Catherine’s N.S.where my ch i ldren go, and St . Joseph’sSecondary School, where I went myself.”Both schools responded enthusiastically withalmost a l l o f the pupi ls and staf f in St .Joseph’s signing typed letters and all of thesenior classes in St. Catherine’s school,(around 100 pupils) writing their own letters.“There is a real pr ide in Rush about ourlibrary. It’s open more than two years, but aswe were waiting for it for so long, it still feelsvery new,” she continued. “It’s a shock and ashame that it’s being targeted for cuts. Theyoung in particular will lose out. Many gothere to do their homework or for a quietplace to study. As a town we’ve spent so longwith just the mobile library, now that wehave such a fantastic facility, why should it’shours be reduced? We’ve lost our gardastation and bank recently, what next?”Ruth hopes that all the protests will meanthe Council will revert their decision. “Afterall our town has lost recently, I just think thatRush in particular is being unfairly targetedand it isn’t right,” she concluded.

Swords Gridlock Down To PoorTraffic Management

Traffic problems that are currentlyaffecting hard pressed motorists at thenorthern end of Swords, has been high-lighted by a local community activist.Joe Newman told the County Leaderthat he has been contacted bymotorists who are enduring traffic jams

particularly between the FingalliansRoundabout and the Fire Station atpeak traffic times. He said, “Theproblem is caused by the sequencing oftraffic lights in the area, which need tobe regulated. The problem is furthercompounded by the roadworks onDublin Road in the town, where water

mains are being laid. This work is likelyto continue for a few weeks to come.Traffic coming from the southern end ofthe town has been diverted away fromDublin Road and has to follow diver-

sions, which is having ahuge effect. However, what rankleswith Newman is the lackof forward thinking by thelocal authority. “TheCouncil do not have aproper traffic manage-ment plan in place tocover this eventuality andto cope with the situationthat has developed, as aresult of this work. It’sforcing motorists to break

the law by stopping on a roundabout, thus causing complete gridlock,” saidNewman. The Council should have thought aboutthe implications of such a huge projectbetter than they have and they need toreview their traffic light sequencing,” heconcluded.

Community activist, Joe Newman is pictured atFingallians Roundabout, where he claims traffic gridlockis being caused by faulty traffic light sequencing.

Spring is the ideal time toget those gloves out andtidy up around the gardenafter the long wintermonths. Your garden mayonly need a small spruceup or it could need a lot ofTLC depending on if youhave been maintaining itor not. Either way, now

that we’re blessed withthose longer eveningsyou can start your springclean up. There are anumber of ways you cantidy up and revamp yourgarden; follow the CountyLeader’s advice below, for some helpful pointers.

GARDENDECKING

The glory and versatilityof wood to create a supe-riorly natural lookinggarden can be foundwhen constructingfencing, decking, lining, panels, etc. All shapesand colours used go toproviding the specific mixof timber and wood forthat outdoor aspect ofhouse and home to enjoythe summer months totheir fullest. Decking is incrediblyeffective in wet condi-tions as their designallows for maximumdrainage meaning an endto boggy conditionsunder foot, meaningcleaner kids and no foot-prints through the house.Perfect for climbingframes, table and chairsfor BBQ evenings as well.Fencing can be cut to

ornate designs to set outa decorative perimeter toany garden which canalso be stained to anyshade of teak, pine, etc.

PAVING

Nothing at all can beatthe versatility of stone forstyle, finesse, characterand colour. To create thestunning, the sophisti-cated, the elaborate orthe elevation of house todomestic temple, pavingis the ultimate invest-ment. Paving can be used tocreate a stunningdriveway, an exciting andornate centre piece or adecorative surround to atree. Even a patio withmagnificent light fixtureswhich can be perfect foran evening’s BBQ withfriends and neighbours.Cobbles are great fun, either as a surround to acentre piece or border toa raise plant bed, cobbles, like slabs cancome in numerous stylesand colours. You can even mix andmatch which, uponcompletion, can change aback garden to a sophisti-cated example of perfectalignment, design andelegance. The alternativeto grass is of course util-ising stone, which can be

seen as paving slabs ofvarying shades, coloursand textures or gravelwhich fall into a similardescription. When donewell this option can bevery effective and aneffort to implement canbe of very low mainte-nance once in place. Youdon’t have to worry aboutcrop circles from orna-ments and a simplehosing and/or scrubbingwith a yard brush is allthat is needed to keepthem clean.

RECYCLINGSKIPS

So now, the plans havebeen drawn, the painthas been bought, thekids are out and you’rearmed with hammer andbrush ready to go. Butwhat to do with thebroken floor tiles, thedamaged furniture, oddcuts of wood, bricks andblocks of differingdimensions and thevarying other objects ofwhat not which can’t beconveniently thrown onthe fire and the bin menaren’t until next week, even though yourwheelie bin is over-flowing already. The solution is thehumble skip, being thatskips are the most envi-

ronmentally friendly andtidiest method of wastedisposal for nonhazardous materials. You call the hiringcompany, their truckdrops the skip off, you fillit up, they pick the skipup, you wave yourrubbish goodbye, it’sthat simple. Did youknow that over 70 percent of items we throwout into a hired skip isrecoverable to be usedagain. Recycling compa-nies that hire out skipsare a great way to ensurehousehold waste can bereused thus being friend-lier to the environmentand providing a cleanerconvenient service. Skiphire companies willdeliver the empty skip, then remove the full skipto their depot to sortthrough the various bits

and pieces to seek outand separate what canbe re-born as a useablecommodity. In truth, a garden isnever finished; thedesign yes maybe, but asthe seasons change, newideas emerge or situa-tions differ, a garden canalternate and say a lotabout its owner. Eitherway the garden has beenand always shall remainan ongoing projectexperimenting withcolour or crop, grass orstone, flat, raised or withpots, maybe all if you’relucky enough to accom-modate the spacerequired, any avidgardener can care for. A successful gardenshould be healthy, abun-dant in life and if caredfor correctly, should lastfor years.

Community Projects MustGo Ahead

Local councillor Tom O’Leary (FG), is anxious to letresidents know that he is hard at work trying to ensurethat funding is available for two communityprojects, namely the very successful “Flavourof Fingal Food Festival” in NewbridgeDesmesne and the very positive “Town CentreGarden Project” in Skerries. Speaking to theCounty Leader, O’Leary said that some posi-tive progress has been made so far, in thatone of the projects is expected to go asplanned under a new heading: I’m happy to report thatI’m pressing for funding for both projects, which reallymust go ahead. In particular, last year’s Fingal FoodFestival attracted thousands of visitors, which had a

fantastic impact on the local community, so there’s noway it can’t go ahead this year. I have been told thatthe festival will get the go ahead, although this year itwill be rebranded as the ‘Harbour Festival.’ I’ll havemore information on this in the coming weeks.”“Equally, The Skerries Community Garden project is anexcellent project driven by the community andsupported by the Chamber of Commerce in Skerries. It

needs a considerable amount of funding and Iwill be pushing for this also,” he continued. “Iwill continue to press for funding for both ofthese projects. I have made direct contact withthe Minister for Environments office on thefunding issue, on foot of a recent statementreleasing LEADER funding for community

projects. I expect to know the status of both projects inthe next week or two.” “Both projects will be greatlybeneficial to the local community into the summermonths, so I’ll be doing everything in my power toensure they go ahead,” he concluded.

North County Livingby Jennifer McShane

A YouthfulOutlook On Life

For this week’s County Living, we sat down to chatwith Melissa Monks from Rush. Melissa’s life verymuch revolves around considering the needs ofother people. She has worked with theSwords/Baldoyle Youth Service for 13 years andright from when we meet, it’s obvious that shewouldn’t want to be doing anything else. “Thegroup is just fantastic. I’ve been involved for manyyears with the Swords/Baldoyle Youth Service andI still love it just as much now, as I did when Istarted. All the volunteers, participants andeveryone involved really do amazing work.”Melissa, who is now assistant manager, startedout as a volunteer with the group, so she knows allabout the hard work, time and dedication that eachof the volunteers give up to be fully involved withthe young participants. “My role lets me workdirectly with the young people and as well as co-ordinating youth clubs, organising summerprojects and other things, I’m also here to trainand support each of the volunteers, so I get to seedirectly the wonderful work they put in. They’regiving up there own free time and it’s reallyinspiring to see young people do that.”The local lady has always been involved with thecommunity in some form or another and has beenvolunteering since she wasyoung. “I started out by volun-teering with them for a dramagroup 16 years ago. I met afriend of mine when I was doingsome volunteer work for theMillbank Theatre in Rush andshe asked me to come along tothe Swords Youth Service andhelp out with a drama groupthat was on and that was it. Iloved it.” Melissa has an extremely activelife and loves anything creative. She is an advocate of theperforming arts, and thinks theyare the perfect way in whichyoung people can express themselves. “I’vealways loved the performing arts and in particular,I think they are a fantastic way for young people toexpress their creative side.” In line with this,Melissa has also been involved in the organisationof a local drama festival entitled ‘Do You WannaPerform.’ This yearly festival runs in the Millbanktowards the end of May and the beginning of June. Though she is very modest about her time devotedto the youth in the area, it’s really quite somethingfor Melissa and all the other staff members of thegroup, to have been working for over a decade withyoung people when they are at a very importanttime in their lives. “It’s a total team effort fromeveryone involved in the group; we all play ourindividual parts to ensure the group is a success, and of course the young people make the groupwhat it is. We wouldn’t have one in the first placewithout them. The whole premise of the group is tobe there and support the young people in what-

ever way we can." She says communication playsa key role in the group’s success. "It’s all aboutcommunicating and listening to one another. ” In the North County alone, there are around 14different youth groups from Balscadden down toHowth, Oldtown, Rivermeade, Kinsealy andSwords. “In each of those groups there are volun-teers who are trained, garda vetted and areworking within their local community with theyoung people, and it’s just brilliant to see,”Melissa continued. The extremely activeSwords/Baldoyle Youth Service, like all the youthgroups around the North County, runs a widevariety of various activities, all catered for theyoung people in the area including: After SchoolGroups, Youth Arts, a Drug Education Programmeand a Summer Programme. “We always havesomething going on and we also have a ‘drop incentre,’ which is open every Tuesday night from7pm to 9pm. It’s a great way for young people tointeract with each other after school.” She saysthere are a lot of fantastic moments that go alongwith being involved in the youth service, but shesays a highlight is seeing the young people’s livesdevelop and take different directions. “It’s the littlemoments that really make it worthwhile. For

example, some of the kids comeback as volunteers when theyare older, as a result of their ownenjoyable experiences within thegroup, and that’s really amazing. They want to give somethingback, and that really starts withcommunity involvement." Shesays the fantastic work thatyoung people do within theircommunities isn't highlightedenough. "The group really high-lights the brilliant work that'sdone by the young people, whichis what we want. The youthreally don't get enough credit forall the good they do."

She also praises all the different community bodiesthat would work with the youth service on a regularbasis: "I really can't praise the different organisa-tions enough such as the community gardai, whodo amazing work with all the participants."In the little spare time she has, Melissa lovesspending time with her family, travelling and doinglots of creative things such as reading, writing (somuch so, that she set up a very successful SwordsYoung Writers group with her friend Alison Barker,a creative writing teacher), attending the theatreand comedy gigs. "I definitely like to keep busy!"She finishes off by saying that the Swords /Baldoyle Youth Service are always looking for newvolunteers and members to welcome, and anyonewith even a small interest is encouraged to comedown for a look and join in. "There's definitelysomething for everyone as we cater for theprogrammes based on what our participants wantto be involved in."

Congratulations to The Cottage Kids Playschoolfrom

Arguably, one of the most important considerationsfor parents of pre-school children to make, when theydecide to return to work, is where to find a suitableplayschool that will provide their child with a servicethat goes above and beyond their requirements. The Cottage Kid’s Playschool in Lusk is one suchplayschool, where you will find cutting edge standardsin pre-school care. This multi award winningplayschool is located in a beautiful rural setting not farfrom the village of Lusk. It is one of the longest estab-lished and original playschool services in Lusk andopened it’s doors in 1997.Owner, Mandy Corcoran opened the service initiallyfrom her kitchen, and in response to to the needs ofparents in the area, she grew her business veryquickly. In 2000, she had a purpose built facilityconstructed, which is attached to her house. Staffmember, Fiona Brogan joined Mandy in 2002 and theyhave been working the service together for the past 11years.

They were delighted tohave been accepted on tothe North Dublin SioltaQuality AssuranceProgramme 2012-2014.On this programme, theyare working with thesupport of EarlyChildhood Ireland’sSiolta mentor, CarolDuffy. “We are in theprocess of reviewing ourpractice and gatheringevidence to demonstratethe quality of service thatwe offer children andtheir families. There wereonly five places availableon this programme in

Fingal and places were offered only after a highmarking criterion was met. This was based on theexperience of the staff, willingness to commit to theprogramme and the capacity to understand andimplement changes to the service. “We hope toachieve our national Siolta Validation in Spring 2014,”said Mandy. The Cottage Kid’s Playschool has recently won threevery prestigious awards at the Early Childhood IrelandGala Awards evening last month. Their first award wasthe Learning Story Award ‘Fabric Fun’. This capturedthe children’s competence and eagerness to learn, aswell as the staff’s ability to listen and support.A delighted Mandy recalled that momentous night.“Our second award was the Innovation in Learningand Practice Award. Our approach here was to mean-ingfully involve the children in our process of under-standing the Siolta Quality Assurance Programme. This project was shortlisted for the Overall InnovationAward and we could not believe it when it wasannounced that we had scooped the OverallInnovation Award.”Mandy said, “At The Cottage Kid’s Playschool, weplace particular emphasis on delivering high qualitystandards for the service in terms of staff qualifica-tions, curriculum offered and our environment. Theimage we strive for is one of a high quality, childcentred pre-school run by efficient, competent, fullyqualified staff. We have small animals, includingducks, rabbits and hamsters and we have found that

this provides a hugeboost for the child’s senseof well-being and feelingof belonging.Mandy and Fiona continu-ously avail of professionaldevelopment workshopsthat are run by the EarlyChildhood Ireland orFingal County ChildcareCommittee. “We alsoattend our curriculumframework Aistear work-shops as they becomeavailable,” said Mandy, who also mentioned thatstaff had trained in“Resolving Conflicts withChildren”, by AmericanConflict mediator, Betsy

Evans. The benefits of attending The Cottage Kid’sPlayschool are that children avail of the uniqueHigh/Scope Curriculum. “This curriculum works verywell for us, as we have an exceptional environment tooffer children, both indoors and outdoors. We believein nurturing all children’s curiosity, resilience, creativity and potential through play,” said Mandy. On foot of winning the awards, The Cottage Kid’sPlayschool were approached by Early ChildhoodIreland and asked if the children could be heard ontheir opinions of play. They were filmed for the wholeday in the playschool and the clips will be used for anupcoming meeting in Brussels, called ‘Taking PlaySeriously - Investing in Europe’s Future.’It is abundantly clear that Mandy and her staff havecreated a wonderful platform for pre-school childrenthat will enable them to become well prepared for

school. The result is that children are far more likely toaccept their new environment, which is likely to bemuch less daunting for them, as a result of attendingThe Cottage Kid’s Playschool. The Cottage Kid’s Playschool is without doubt aunique learning environment for children, which hasraised the bar and set very high standards for otherservices to meet.

Accidents and Odours

If your pet has had an accident, scrub the area with clubsoda as soon as possible and let it dry. Then sprinklethe area with baking soda and let it stand to help controlodours. After an hour or so, vacuum the rug thoroughly. If a stain or discolouration remains, if you don’t have anappropriate stain remover to hand, you could alwaysapply a generous amount of lemon juice to the area; letit soak for about 15 to 30 minutes. When the stain isremoved, rinse the area well and blot it thoroughly. After the stain removal, deodorise if necessary, it’simportant to remove the odour — doing so helps giveyour pet the signal that they should not do the samething in that spot again. Let it dry, then spend sometime giving your pet a refresher course in potty training.

Bath Time

Does Whiskers smell funky? Has Mr. Sprinkles gotteninto something unpleasant? As well as the special washtreatments available for your pet, baking soda isanother great natural option for dry bathing your pet. This is especially helpful since most cats hate water. To dry bathe your dog or cat, sprinkle your pet’s coatwith baking soda, then give the coat a good rubdownwith your hands. Next, use a gentle brush to spread thebaking soda throughout the coat until the baking sodais gone. And since it is non-toxic, there’s no need toworry if your pet takes a liking to its taste.
