In the coming weeks, work will begin on Mason City’s west McDonald’sdemolition and rebuild. “The current building is 33 years old,” said Carroll. “It willbe demolished and rebuilt in the same location. The new layout will be much moreorganized and efficient. Currently our stock room is located in the basement whichis not very convenient for the employees.” The new layout will include a doubledrive-thru lane similar to that at McDonald‘s South, which will allow for moreefficient drive-thru service.

“We will be able to retain most of our employees. They will be working atMcDonald’s South and the Clear Lake location until the construction is complete.”

The total project is expected to be complete within 90 days, start to finish, with atarget re-opening date in mid-summer.

McDonalds South in Mason City is located at 2010 South Federal Avenue. The Westlocation is at 1641 4th Street SW. Hours for dining in are 6 AM to midnight seven daysa week. Drive thru hours are 5:30 AM to midnight Sunday through Thursday and openuntil 1AM Fridays and Saturdays.

‘11 Readers’ Choice Spring Event - Mason City Chamber

Since 1985, Harry O has been providing radio listeners throughout NorthIowa with laughter and entertainment. “I like to think I’m a fun guy.Entertainment is fun and people love to be happy. If I can make just oneperson cheerful and make their day, I’ve succeeded,” said Harry.

As a young kid, growing up in Osage, Harry aspired to be a play-by-playannouncer and DJ. “My name, Harry O, came from the David Janssen’sshow,” he said referring to the 70’s crime drama that originally aired onABC. At the age of 15, Harry took his first part-time job with KOSG Radioin Osage. He started working at KLSS when he was 17, prior to attendingBrown College of Broadcasting in Minneapolis.

“After my first year of college, I started my first full-time radio job inSheridan, Wyoming. Following that I worked in Grand Island, Nebraskabefore returning to Mason City.”

The Harry O Morning Show is aired on Star 106.1 (KLSS) weekdays from 5AMto 10AM. “My show is made up of the things I would find entertaining as alistener. I try to keep it interesting, full of energy and exciting for the listeners.”

Adam was born in Mason City but moved to Michigan at an early age. “We spent ten years in Northern Michigan where it snows about ten feet every year. Youcan’t help but become interested in the weather when you grow up and experience that much snow.”

Eventually life took Adam to Eastern Iowa, where he discovered all of the severe weather that Iowa had to offer. “I became truly fascinated by the weather.”“I decided to pursue a career in meteorology because it combined my fascination with the weather and my interest in the behind-the-scenes aspects of TV and

movies, as well as my interest in computers,” explained Adam.He attended Iowa State University majoring in meteorology and minoring in journalism. In 2000, Adam joined KIMT’s StormTeam 3 and now works as their

Chief Meteorologist.“I love the variety of my job. The weather varies day to day. It’s never mundane or boring. It also provides me with the opportunity to help people as they use

the weather to plan their day. During severe weather, the information I pass along helps keep viewers safe.”“It’s important to me to provide the absolute best severe weather coverage,” says Adam. “The most memorable moments of my career are related to severe

weather.” Adam has chased over 60 tornadoes, including the May 11th 2000 Dunkerton, Iowa tornado and the May 1st, 2001 Glenville May Day Twister. “The mostmemorable was the 2010 tornado in Albert Lea. We were able to air thirty minutes of live coverage of that tornado on the ground.”

He hopes that his experience with severe weather will further enhance severe weather coverage for KIMT viewers by being able to relate and explain what iscurrently happening and what is going to happen when severe weather threatens. Adam says, “Severe weather happens and we have to be prepared to jump in andalert our viewers. Our goal at KIMT is to bring you the most accurate, fastest and complete severe weather information to help keep you safe.”

While not on air Adam enjoys spending time with his wife Allison, new daughter Natalie, and dog Winnie, as well as building computers, creating web pages,and of course, chasing storms. “Being a meteorologist is not a job, it’s a lifestyle that requires being prepared and ready, day or night,” says Adam. “It’s really anhonor and a pleasant surprise to be voted the Readers’ Choice. I do what I do because I love doing it. Receiving recognition from the Globe Gazette readers reallymeans a lot to me.”

Col. Gordon E. Taylor grew up attending livestock auction barns with his fatherand brothers. The auctions fascinated him, not knowing then that his early interestwould continue on to become a lifetime career.

In 1974, Gordon and his wife acquired the World Wide College of Auctioneeringand continued with it for 20 years, teaching approximately 8000 students duringthat time from all 50 states, from all providences in Canada and other foreigncountries, including many from North Iowa. At the same time, he continued hispersonal auction career.

Edward Jones Ranks Highest in Investor SatisfactionAccording to J.D. Power and Associates 2010 Full Service Investor Satisfaction Study

For the fifth year out of the past six, financial-services firm Edward Jones ranks highest in investor satisfaction with full-service brokerage firms, according to the J.D.Power and Associates 2010 Full Service Investor Satisfaction Study, announced the 7 financial advisors in the North Iowa area announced..

The study measures overall investor satisfaction with full service investment firms based on seven factors: investment advisor, portfolio performance, accountinformation, account offerings, commissions and fees, website and problem resolution. The J.D. Power and Associates study found that Edward Jones “performedparticularly well across the two highest-weighted factors: Investment Advisor and Investment Performance.”

“As stated on their website, Edward Jones advisors strive for personal attention and believe in providing one-on-one service,” according to the J.D. Power study. “This isevident in their efforts to engage in proactive conversations regarding a multitude of their investors’ concerns, including reviewing an existing strategic plan or developingone for a new investor, and initiating discussions regarding portfolio/asset allocation or investment needs.”

Edward Jones’ overall score climbed 10 points over last year, when it also was ranked highest among the 12 largest firms rated.The 2010 Full Service Investor Satisfaction Study is based on responses from 4,460 investors who primarily invest with one of the 12 firms included in the study. The study

Stillwater Greenhouse, located at 3110 Shadow Avenue in Orchard, isproud to offer the largest selection of annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs,fruit trees, and vegetable plants in Mitchell County.

“We focus on creating a fun shopping experience for our customers.Our friendly staff is happy to help our customers find just what they’relooking for,” said Daniel Zimmerman, owner. If a customer has somethingin mind but can’t find it at the Stillwater Greenhouse, chances are prettygood that Daniel and his staff can get it.

Stillwater Greenhouse also offers a unique landscape coaching service.“We’re not landscape architects, but we do know plants. We can help ourcustomers choose which plants would work well in their project andwhere to place them.”

Convenient hours provide even the busiest customers with lots ofopportunity to stop in and visit. “We’re open 8:00 AM to 8:00 PMMonday through Saturday, closed on Sunday, and open all summer long.”

Saturday, April 30th, Stillwater Greenhouse will be hosting an all dayOpen House and a Mother’s Day event on Saturday, May 7th. Customersare invited to stop out and see for themselves the broad selection. Lunchwill be served for both events. During the Mother’s Day event, childrenwill receive a free basket and soil in which to plant a special gift for theirMother. Staff will be available to help.
