On August 19th, the following staff members were recognized and honored by the Board, staff and community for their long and dedicated service to the Library and to the residents of North Riverside.

Remember Someone SpecialThe Library would like to thank P.J. Folz for making a donation in memory of Aino Simsons. The North Riverside Public Library

the community can recognize and enjoy. The Library staff is willing to select from subjects or titles provided. Once the item has been

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, all Japanese Americans living on the West Coast were forced into relocation camps. Among the over 120,000 incarcerated, over two-thirds were American-born, many of whom were children. Historian and

librarian Sarah Okner, a descendant of internees, shares photos and details of daily life in an internment camp, and the

profound effects it had on those living there.

WEDNESDAY MOVIE MATINEE

Sept. 7: McFarland, USA(2015), 129 min., Rated PG.Inspired by the 1987 true story, the movie follows novice runners from McFarland as they build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Cost-

ner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. The unlikely band of runners eventually overcome the odds to not only forge a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well.

Oct. 5: The 33 (2015), 127 min., Rated PG-13. In 2010, the eyes of the world turned to Chile, where 33 miners had been buried alive by the catastrophic explosion and collapse of a 100 year old gold and copper mine. Over

the next 69 days, an international team worked night and day to rescue the trapped men as their families waited and watched anxiously for any sign of hope. Based on the book Deep Down Dark by Hector Tobar.

Nov. 9: State of the Union (1948), 123 min., Not Rated. When idealistic businessman Grant Matthews (Spencer Tracy) is chosen to run for the Presidency, he is caught between the ruthless ambition of a newspaper owner (Angela

Lansbury) and the integrity of his devoted wife (Katharine Hepburn). But along the way, he realizes he may have lost touch with the American people. Directed by Frank Capra.
