AUSTIN — Texas Attor-ney General Ken Paxtonapplauded a Dec. 14 FortWorth federal districtcourt decision declaringunconstitutional the U.S.Affordable Care Act, wide-ly known as “Obamacare.”

Ten months ago, Paxtonand Wisconsin AttorneyGeneral Brad Schimel leda 20-state coalition lawsuitchallenging the constitu-tionality of the 2010 healthcare law, arguing that Con-gress rendered all ofObamacare unconstitu-tional by doing away withthe tax penalty in Obam-acare’s individual mandatewhen it enacted PresidentDonald Trump’s tax over-haul.

“Today’s ruling halts anunconstitutional exertionof federal power over theAmerican healthcare sys-tem,” Attorney GeneralPaxton said. “Our lawsuitseeks to effectively repealObamacare, which willgive President Trump andCongress the opportunityto replace the failed socialexperiment with a planthat ensures Texans andall Americans will againhave greater choice aboutwhat health coverage theyneed and who will be theirdoctor.”

Supporters of the healthcare law said the federaldistrict court’s rulingwould be appealed.

December 19, 2018 –These few Home HolidayCrime Prevention Tips ismeant to help you have ahappy holiday season. Forsure there’s lots of“criminal scrooges”watching the neighbor-hoods for the carelessholiday season resident, don’t be their victim.

Don’t open your door tostrangers, be aware thatcriminals sometimes poseas couriers deliveringgifts, even wearing acompany uniform they’vestolen or bought at agarage sale.

Be extra cautiousabout locking doors andwindows when you leaveyour house or apartment, even for a few minutes.

When returning homeafter a shopping trip, have the house keys inyour hand, ready to usewhen you reach the door, you might have beenfollowed from the store bya criminal.

Leave lights turned onboth inside and outsideyour residence after dark.Criminals don't likebright places.

If you will be awayfrom home for severaldays, make arrangementsfor someone to pick upyour mail and newspa-pers. An overstuffedmailbox is a sure signthat no one is home, andburglars are tempted tocheck those envelopes forholiday gifts.

Keep your blinds orcurtains closed, don’topenly display your treeand gifts in the frontwindow so they are easilyvisible from the street. It’s too tempting for apotential criminal tosmash the window andgrab the wrappedpackages…or plan a laterbreak-in based on theirearlier observation.

advertise…burglars lookfor occupancy cues likeoutdoor lights burning 24hours a day, piled upnewspapers, mail, oradvertising flyers hang-ing on the door knob.

Use an inexpensivelight timer to turn on andoff a light when you areaway and ask a neighborto pick up your newspa-pers and mail.

If you go out for theevening, turn on lightsand a radio or televisionso the house or apartmentappears to be occupied.

Be mindful of burningcandles and too manylights plugged intooutlets/extension cords, these are on the Top 10Causes of House Fires.

Burglars know to lookfor the hidden door keynear the front entrance.Don’t hide spare keysunder rocks, in flower-pots, or above door ledges.Instead give the sparekey to a trusted neighbor.

Burglars prefer toenter through unlockeddoors or windows. Aholiday problem can occurwhen exterior Christmaslight extension cords arerun inside through awindow that prevents itfrom being secured.

The after openingpresents, don’t pile upempty gift boxes fromyour new computer, DVDplayer, or stereo receiveron the street for thegarbage collector. Bur-glars appreciate knowingthat you have expensivegifts inside for them tosteal. Break the boxesdown or cut them up toconceal the items better.
