Please remember that school does not finish until Friday 23 June. Students will be engaged in school work right up to the holiday. As outlined in our last newsletter, attendance is the first and most important key to success for all children. ATTENDANCE Our school has a goal of achieving an attendance rate of 95%. Norville State School’s official attendance rate is at 93.5%. However, this term’s attendance rate is at 92.4%, so we are on the decline. Mondays and Fridays continue to be days where our attendance rate is at its lowest. Our school has not had an attendance rate of over 93% on a Friday this term. This means that approximately 50 students have been away from school every Friday this term. The Friday after the show holiday the school recorded approximately 120 student absences. The question is: Is it a coincidence that the first and last days of the school week are our least attended days of the week? REPORTS As mentioned in the last newsletter, Report Cards will be sent home on Thursday July 13. This is the first time we have waited until after the holidays to send reports home. The main reason for this is it has allowed at least another week of teaching before assessment commenced. Reports will also be posted or e-mailed to parents who have requested a duplicate report. If for any reason families require a duplicate report and have not already contacted the admin office, please do so as soon as possible. PREP ENROLMENT 2018 During Term 3 Norville State School begins to organise Prep enrolments for the next year. If you have a child/ren, or know of any families who have children of Prep age in 2018, please make contact or have them make contact with the school and express interest in attending Prep at Norville State School next year. The following process will then be followed: Please note that Norville State School’s Enrolment Management Plan does not mean that students from outside the catchment cannot attend Norville. It just means that students who fit the Enrolment Management Plan criteria get first preference. Norville can accept approximately 100 Prep students each year. Most years all families who apply to enrol at Norville State School are accepted. SPORTS DAYS Good luck to all the children having fun over the next couple of days at their Sports’ Days. REMINDER:

When allowing your child/ren to participate in activities at schoolyou are reminded that payment for such activity needs to bemade in a timely manner.

The preferred payment option for Friday sport is “full paymentup front”. However, students are able to pay their requiredamount each week - preferably paying on a Wednesday orThursday, as the office is very busy on Friday mornings.

ADJUSTMENT NOTE:

PAYMENT OF INVOICES:

Education Queensland’s preferred method of payment isthrough BPOINT, which is an online credit card payment facility.

This is a very simple process which allows payment toautomatically be allocated and receipted to your child’saccount. There is no minimum payment amount.

SCHOOL ADMINISTERED MEDICATION –MUST READ

NEW DEPARTMENTAL GUIDELINES:

OVER-THE-COUNTER (OTC) MEDICATIONS

The Department recognises that all medications, includingover-the-counter (OTC) medications, e.g. paracetamol oralternative medicines, may be drugs or poisons and may causeside effects. As such, schools are required to receive medicalauthorisation from a prescribing health practitioner (e.g. doctor, dentist, optometrist, but NOT a pharmacist) to administer anymedication to students, including those boughtover-the-counter.

Whilst parents may administer OTC mediations to their childwithout medical authorisation, they are aware of the child’scomplete medical history, and are able to provide ongoing, direct supervision for the course of the child’s illness. Due tothese circumstances, a parent is also more likely to recogniseif their child is having adverse effects and requires immediatemedical attention.

The student’s prescribing health practitioner also has theknowledge of the child’s medical history to determine theappropriate OTC medication to administer and is therefore ableto determine dosage and provide advice regarding potentialside effects or interactions with other medications.
