School Notre Dame College Prep is a Roman Catholic college preparatory school and has educated more than 12,000 young men since its founding in 1954. Located in Niles, Illinois, on 28 wooded acres, Notre Dame currently enrolls approximately 800 students from Chicago and 29 different suburbs. Notre Dame’s approach to education is holistic. One of 17 Holy Cross high schools in the United States, we educate the mind, but never at the expense of the heart. The instructional programs at Notre Dame have distinct levels of challenge: Advanced Placement, Honors, College Prep Core, and the Andre Program. Each level is geared to prepare our students for college admission. Rigorous courses of study are designed to meet the educational needs of our diverse student body and are tailored to provide challenging educational experiences for our students. Mission Under the patronage of Mary, Notre Dame College Prep is a secondary school committed to educating young men to be gentlemen of faith, scholarship, and service in an inclusive, family-oriented community. Faithful to the Roman Catholic tradition and inspired by Gospel values, we prepare students to be lifelong learners and to lead lives of integrity. Hesburgh Scholar Program Named in honor of University of Notre Dame President Emeritus Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, CSC, this selective enrollment program is designed to challenge the most gifted and motivated student with a demanding course of studies. It not only requires the development of the student’s abilities in all areas of the academic curriculum, but also seeks to further his overall development through involvement in various service-oriented and extracurricular activities. Successful completion of the Hesburgh Scholar Program results in a special diploma of distinction. College Prep Core Program Students in the Notre Dame College Prep Core program are challenged with a curriculum designed to meet criteria for admission to any state college/university. These students might also take some honor courses and are pushed to meet high academic expectations. Graduates from the College Prep Core program have gone to numerous selective colleges and universities. Saint Andre Scholar Program Named in honor of Saint Andre Bessette, CSC, this college preparatory program is for students with learning differences who require assistance in achieving academic success at Notre Dame. Andre Scholars must exhibit consistent effort and a willing commitment in time and energy to academic excellence. Typically, participants in the Andre Scholar Program are placed in the Reading/Writing Workshop course in lieu of a foreign language in the first year, and benefit from on-site tutoring during their study period. All other coursework is done on the college prep level. Saint Andrew Kim Dae-Gon Scholar Program Named in honor of Saint Andrew Kim Dae-Gon, the first native Korean ordained as a priest in 1845, the program is designed to provide international students with a faith-based college preparatory education in the United States. The program provides support and assistance to international students who may experience difficulty in school due to language barriers and cultural differences. The program has served students from Austria, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. Burke Scholars Program Named in honor of Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke and her husband, Chicago Alderman Edward Burke, this program offers a curriculum for students with mild cognitive disabilities including those with Down Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, or other learning differences. Notre Dame is the first Catholic school in the state and one of the first in the country to offer such a program. At the end of their course of study, the students in this program will receive a certificate of completion, signifying their accomplishments here at Notre Dame College Prep. Families that wish to seek a diploma at graduation now have that option as well. The decision to pursue a diploma and a course of study plan must be made prior to a student’s sophomore year with the guidance of the Burke team and administration. Religion 4English 4Mathematics 3Lab Sciences, including 3

Biology Either Chemistry or Physics

Foreign Language – Same Language 2Social Studies, including 3

Freshmen & Sophomores are to complete 25 service hours by serving Notre Dame, their parish, and/or local community.

Juniors are to complete a total of 25 hours. Twelve of these hours must be earned by volunteering with an organization that deals with the issues of social justice. The idea is that students, in line with the junior religion curriculum, will develop a deeper understanding of service and social justice by developing a relationship with the people and organization they are serving.

Seniors are to complete 15 service hours by serving Notre Dame, their parish, and/or local community.

Grade Point AverageA student’s GPA is determined by multiplying the credit earned by the quality points for that course. Semester-long courses, for example, are worth 0.5 credits. The 0.5 credits are then multiplied by the quality points for the letter grade that was earned. These quality points are then totaled and divided by the credits attempted. Grades in Driver’s Education are NOT included in the GPA.

Summer School grades and credits are added to a student’s academic record at the conclusion of summer school.

The GPA of a transfer student is based only on grades earned at Notre Dame College Prep.

Honor RollThe Honor Roll is determined on the basis of the semester GPA. There are three classifications:

SUMMA CUM LAUDE: GPA of 3.80 or higher MAGNA CUM LAUDE: GPA of 3.50 through 3.79 CUM LAUDE: GPA of 3.20 through 3.49

Any grade lower than a “C-“ disqualifies a student from honor roll status.
