Aloha Radford High School,
We have had an engaging and exciting first quarter of school and are underway into the 2nd quarter! Our students have done an outstanding job thus far in modeling our school motto of Discipline, Respect, and Responsibility. The climate of the campus has been positive and we have had a tremendous amount of support from our parents and community members. I would like to thank all of you for your continued support of our school and students.
We have seen a tremendous amount of growth in our students and have also seen our teachers and staff, participate in several professional development activities that encouraged dialogue and growth. Teachers and students alike were part of our first annual “Radford Complex Tech Summit” held on our campus to open the 2nd Quarter. This Tech Summit encompassed all of our nine complex schools that focused in on digital learning.
As a school we will continue to implement and provide a viable curriculum and the best oppor-tunities for our students to development academically, physically, socially and emotionally.
I look forward to having another successful quarter of school. I encourage all of our families to look for opportunities to become actively involved at Radford High School.
Respectfully,
James L. Sunday
Principal

SENIOR LEADERSHIP
RRADFORDADFORD AANNOUNCEMENTSNNOUNCEMENTS
Dear Parents/Guardians
On Monday, October 17th, Radford High School hosted a Technology Summit for
the Radford Complex schools to share with our teachers how technology can be
used to improve student learning. Students from the senior leadership class
volunteered their time to host presenters. We directed them to their assigned
locations, assisted the presenters in setting up the classroom, and cleaned up
after the presentation.
Our second blood drive will take place on November 30th. Forms to be able to
donate will be available in room 172. If you have any questions or concerns,
you can go to room 172. Please remember that every pint of blood saves 3 lives
so we encourage you to donate.
Currently the senior leadership is planning for future events for the senior class.
In January, we will be having our Senior Luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Additional information will be provided to students through Advisory classes.

JUNIOR LEADERSHIP
The Junior leadership class of 2018 is a class filled with students who are com-
mitted to being a leader for our school and for our Junior class. So far we have
come up with ideas on how we can help our class of 2018 have more pride in our
school leaving a legacy and making this Junior year a great and memorable year.
On the second Friday of every month we visit room 114 and do activities that are
meaningful with the students. The activities usually depend on the current season
or the holiday that is coming up. We enjoy seeing and bonding with them, they are
always happy and excited when we’re there. We cherish every second we have
with them and hope to make an impact on their life.
We will also be going to Makalapa every Friday to help the teachers with paper-
work and help tutor the 1st and 2nd graders, on the subjects of Math, Reading or
Writing.

HOSA club informationHOSA club informationHOSA club informationHOSA club information
This year, Radford High School became an official affiliate with HOSA - Future Health Profes-
sionals, a national student association for those interested in the health field. 52 students, in
grades 9-12, have joined the association. As a member of HOSA, students learn to develop ef-
fective leadership qualities and skills, create friendships and social networks, as well as
strengthen academic and workplace readiness skills and participate in community service ac-
tivities.
For their first community service project, RHS HOSA members collected over $600.00 in sup-
port of HOSA-Hawaii's partner, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). NAMI is a na-
tionwide grassroots advocacy group, representing families and people affected by mental dis-
orders in the United States. In addition, on Saturday, October 8, 2016, 18 RHS HOSA members
and two advisors participated in NAMIWalks 2016, a 5k benefit walk in downtown Honolulu.

The first option is from the University of Hawaii. Free math tutoring
online is available for any public school student. It is a live session
and tutors are graduate students and upper level undergrads. For
more information please go to http://manoa.hawaii.edu/ola
The second option is from a company called tutor.com (http://

provides live, real-time responses to questions in any of the following
subject: math, science, English, or social studies. Military families
(Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve members in the Army, Ma-
rines, Navy or Air Force and their dependents) can receive this service

ATTENTION PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Parents, please refrain from texting or calling your
child during instructional time. If you need to reach
your child please call the office at 421-4200.
Radford’s cell phone policy is that your student/child
may use them before the first bell of the day and
after the last bell of the day. Thank you for your
cooperation in this matter.
Please remind your child/student once they park and leave their car in the
morning, they may NOT access it, or the student parking lot until the last bell
of the day.
An exception would be if the student drove themselves to school and needs to
leave for an appointment, in which case they first need to check out with the
front office.
Mahalo for your assistance and consideration in this campus safety matter.
