The Lord makes a meal out of the vast enemies arrayed against Him
Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39 show vast armies arrayed against the Lord’s people, but they did not have to fear, because the Lord would make a meal out of the enemies,
“And as for you, son of man, thus says the Lord God, ‘Speak to every sort of bird and to every beast of the field: “Assemble yourselves and come; Gather together from all sides to My sacrificial meal Which I am sacrificing for you, A great sacrificial meal on the mountains of Is-rael, That you may eat flesh and drink blood. You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, Drink the blood of the princes of the earth, Of rams and lambs, Of goats and bulls, All of them fatlings of Bashan. You shall eat fat till you are full, And drink blood till you are drunk, At My sacrificial meal Which I am sacrificing for you. You shall be filled at My table With horses and riders, With mighty men And with all the men of war,” says the Lord God.’” (Ezekiel 39.17–20)
How many times have we read of something like this in the Bible, and
seen it in world history. The world back then arrayed itself against Israel, but the
Lord defeated His enemies easily. Since the first century great enemies have tried to silence the Lord’s people in spiritual
Israel, which is the church. What has happened to everyone of those enemies? They are all gone.
Therefore, world, we do not fear you, because our God
works for us, and if you oppose us, He shall make a meal of you. DR
Love is above all things
Many are the things we should do for one another, but one thing supersedes everything else, and truly guides all that we do,
And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4.8).
If you love, you will not sin against your brother. Therefore, love covers a
multitude of sins. Love also covers a multi-tude of sins by forgiving them. Endless are
the possibilities of love. DR

The Spirit Dwells in Us!
Remember that the Spirit is a being, and that He is God.
Yet, He dwells in us.
In addition to the pas-sages to the left, the fol-lowing also speak of His dwelling in Christians: Rom 8.9; 1Co 6.19; 1Th 4.8.
Note Paul had to reveal to them the Spirit’s in-dwelling. We cannot know His dwelling by human reasoning or feelings, but by God’s declaration. T

Christmas and New Year’s Day on Sundays
In 2011, several churches, including some of the largest in Grants Pass can-celled their worship services. This year again Christmas falls on a Sunday, and New Year’s Day falls on the first Sun-day of 2017.
As you know, we never cancel ser-vices. Therefore, be on the alert for inviting family and friends who may go to those churches, and invite them to join us on those two Sundays. Also, we are going to do some advertising, encouraging people who belong to
those churches to join us on those two days.
Church History
1913: Lenin writes to Maxim Gorki, “Every religious idea, every idea of God, even flirting with the idea of God, is unutterable vileness….” How-ever, the religion of Jesus Christ con-tinues and Lenin’s ideas are perishing.
1938: Kate Smith first sings Irving Berlin’s God Bless America, a song that she thought she was not going to like. It will become her signature song. When I went to Russia, us thirteen preachers were invited into the home of one of the teachers, and many other teachers came. They had a request of us that we sing, God Bless America. It amazed me that they even knew the song, and that they wanted to hear it in person!
1704: Forty-two year old Matthew Henry writes in his journal that he means to prepare a commentary on the entire Scripture. A couple days later he adds, “I set about it, that I may endeavour something and spend my time to some good purpose and let the Lord make what use he pleaseth of me.” He will complete most of the project before his death in 1714. Friends will put it into final form and publish it.
1660: John Bunyan is arrested for un-licensed preaching and sentenced to prison. During his various incarcera-tions, he will pen Pilgrim’s Progess and Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sin-ners, the greatest Puritan spiritual au-tobiography.
Beware of the Distraction of Politics
Someone attributed the following to C. S. Lewis, and although he did not write it, whoever did, gave us a piece of wise advice: “Be sure that the pa-tient [the person being tempted] re-mains completely fixated on politics. Arguments, political gossip, and ob-sessing on the faults of people they have never met serves as an excellent distraction from advancing in personal virtue, character, and the things the patient can control. Make sure to keep the patient in a constant state of angst, frustration, and general disdain to-wards the rest of the human race in order to avoid any kind of charity or inner peace from further developing. Ensure the patient continues to believe that the problem is ‘out there’ in the ‘broken system’ rather than recogniz-ing there is a problem with himself.”
