Pentecost 16

Our Reason for Being

As a community of the people of God,

called by Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Our purpose is to reach the hearts, minds, bodies

and souls of individuals,

thus bringing the Kingdom of God upon ourselves and others.

We do this through worship, nurture and outreach.

We Gather to Worship

PRELUDE 680 “Christ, of All My Hopes the Ground”

CALL TO WORSHIP

Grace and peace to you from God our Father

and the Lord Jesus Christ.Call on the name of God and give thanks.Make known God's deeds among the people.Sing and tell of God's wonderful works.Let those who seek God rejoice in their hearts.Let us worship God.

PRAYER OF APPROACH

Liberating God,we to journey with you. With parted waters, set us free. With cloud and fire, guide us.With gushing waters, quench our thirst. With food from heaven, feed us.Draw us out with joy and singing, that we might know your ways. Amen.

MINISTRY OF MUSIC 688 “As Water to the Thirsty”

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Forgiving Lord, we are such jealous people.

We want to make sure that we get what we deserve,

that we are always treated fairly.

We complain when you treat others,

who have not worked as hard or been as faithful,

with the same love you have given us.

Just like the workers in the Gospel lesson,

we want to know why you are as generous

with the late-comers as you are with us.

“It’s not fair,” we whine, “We’ve been here longer.”

You are merciful and compassionate.

You do not count the time, but the quality of the heart.

Forgive us, generous Lord, when we have been so petty about your love.

Heal and restore us.

Help us reach out with love and hope to others

in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN.

DECLARATION OF PARDON

God’s blessings are showered on the deserving and undeserving.

God’s forgiveness extends to all who walk the earth.

Believe the gospel. In Christ you are forgiven.

We Hear God’s Word

MINISTRY OF MUSIC “Marvelous Grace”

We Respond in Love

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

Whatever our struggles,

whatever our miracles,whatever our burdens,

whatever our fruitful labor,we thank you, O God.

For all that you have given us

from your good creation,

and for all that you have forgiven us

from our bad creation,

we thank you, O God.

Your ways are great and wonderful,

your love is full and free.

Thanks be to you for all that you are,

all that you give,

and all that you will give.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Merciful God, hear us as we pray for your world and its people:

We pray for those who are unemployed, who long to work but can find none. Inspire leaders in the world to find solutions to this problem. We ask for your mercy, O Lord.

We pray for employers. Reward the just ones and discipline the unjust ones. We ask for your mercy, O Lord.

We pray for businesses suffering from this pandemic. Inspire us to find creative solutions to this problem. We ask for your mercy, O Lord.

We pray for political leaders throughout the world. Give them the wisdom they need to lead their nations. We pray for your mercy, O Lord.

We pray for those who suffer from physical or mental illness. Give them hope and peace. We ask for your mercy, O Lord.

We pray for those who are slowing down and losing control due to aging. Raise up people to help them and help them to accept their situation with grace. We ask for your mercy, O Lord.

We pray for those who mourn. Comfort them and guide them. We pray for your mercy, O Lord.

We pray for those who are unjustly treated, by their workplace, by their family, or by their country. Raise up people to come to their aid. We pray for your mercy, O Lord.

Now hear us as we pray silently the words that Christ taught us:

Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed be your name,

Your kingdom come,

Your will be done,

On earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

And deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

And the glory are yours now and forever. Amen

BENEDICTION

Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit be with you now and always. AMEN

POSTLUDE (Please remain seated until the ushers arrive at your row)

The Life and Work of the Church

Worship services will continue to be shown on Shaw TV, channel 9, 11:00 am & 6pm.

These same services are also now available on the St. Andrew’s Facebook page with a link to YouTube. You can also find them if you go directly to YouTube and do a search for St. Andrew’s, Lethbridge. Since they are large files, they have to be posted in two parts, so look for Part 1 and Part 2 each week up.

Presbyterian Daily Devotionals

If you go to www.presbycan.ca you will find devotionals for each day of the week.  Scroll to the bottom and you will be able to play an audio version of the devotional as well as a hymn for each day.

Time for Special Music is even more special when it includes YOU. Can you give a monologue, play an instrument or sing a solo or another talent that you would be willing to share?? We would love to have you be part of our service! Corrie and Lavinia are meeting with, and assisting individuals and small groups every Thursday evening by appointment only . Please contact the church office or Lavinia, [email protected] to learn more.
