“Now that I’m a Christian Class” February 2/24/16 6:006:45 Session 2—Component 2 Love One Another We are talking about what Jesus says are true, known and proven DISCIPLES. They Abide in the Word (John 8:3132) , Love One Another (John 13:35) and Bear Much Fruit (John 15:8). Session 1 was on Disciplemaking Component 3 Bearing Much Fruit. (If you missed last week, ask your facilitator to give you the handout we used and connect you with a person that could discuss it with you.) Have each person in the group share their name and “a way they have been loved” in less than 30 words. The Bible describes the church as a body, as a family and as a army. Are there any similarities in these word pictures? Why do you think God uses the picture of a body? …the picture of a family? …the picture of an army? Here we define CHURCH as the presence of Christ abiding in His people who love one another as family doing their part in the body in order to multiply kingdom work. (Do you see the disciplemaking components in this definition of the church?) The Bible Story for tonight—Luke 10:2537—The Parable of the Good Samaritan (chart on back) An individual will tell the story…the group will retell the story…then answer questions below: Jesus told the lawyer to love God with all his heart…and to love his neighbor. Which disciplemaking component does love the Lord with all your heart…sound like? Which disciplemaking component does love your neighbor as yourself sound like? How did the priest and Levite treat the man? How did the Samaritan treat the man like family? (See the chart on back) Why do you think we want our church family to be full of spiritually maturing parents who provide love and care for others using the context of relationships to help others mature? Church is NOT just a place to go (building/institution). CHURCH IS the People of God. Church is about three types of relationships: 1) Our relationship with God 2) Our relationship with other believers (our spiritual family) 3) Our relationship with those outside the body until they are born into the family A Life Story for tonight—Tell us how you have been blessed with a spiritual family (church). To what degree do you feel accountable and encouraged, why? Why do you love the church? Discuss how the New Testament Churches were the result of the disciples (apostles) making disciples! Three Different Groups we are encouraging to gather. (Groups sizes are different but the mission is the same!) 1. Corporate Worship Services: Why? To celebrate God and keep the mission before the people 2. Sunday School Classes (Small Groups 1020): Why? To build community and provide care TO COACH DISCIPLEMAKING in a relational environment 3. Family Formation Groups (one on one/23): Why? For a deeper accountability on abiding in the Word, on the Word abiding in us, in loving one another as the church & being on mission (Again, the size, structure, method and agenda of these groups are different but the mission is the same!) The Core Challenge of the Church is producing lives transformed by the Word who do their part in the whole body and scatter the seed modeling LIFE IN CHRIST and molding others to do the same. The church does not exists to grow itself as an organization numerically but to mature people to make disciples!

“Now  that  I’m  a  Christian  Class”  February  2/24/16            6:00-‐6:45          Session  2—Component  2  Love  One  Another

We  are  talking  about  what  Jesus  says  are  true,  known  and  proven  DISCIPLES.    They  Abide  in  the  Word  (John  8:31-‐32)  ,  Love  One  Another  (John  13:35)  and  Bear  Much  Fruit  (John  15:8).

(Do  you  see  the  disciplemaking  components  in  this  definition  of  the  church?)

The  Bible  Story  for  tonight—Luke  10:25-‐37—The  Parable  of  the  Good  Samaritan  (chart  on  back)  An  individual  will  tell  the  story…the  group  will  retell  the  story…then  answer  questions  below:  • Jesus  told  the  lawyer  to  love  God  with  all  his  heart…and  to  love  his  neighbor.    Which

disciplemaking  component  does  love  the  Lord  with  all  your  heart…sound  like?    Which  disciplemaking  component  does  love  your  neighbor  as  yourself  sound  like?

• How  did  the  priest  and  Levite  treat  the  man?    How  did  the  Samaritan  treat  the  man  like  family?  (See  the  chart  on  back)

• Why  do  you  think  we  want  our  church  family  to  be  full  of  spiritually  maturing  parents  who  provide  love  and  care  for  others  using  the  context  of  relationships  to  help  others  mature?

Church  is  NOT  just  a  place  to  go  (building/institution).    CHURCH  IS  the  People  of  God.  Church  is  about  three  types  of  relationships:    1)  Our  relationship  with  God     2)  Our  relationship  with  other  believers  (our  spiritual  family)     3)  Our  relationship  with  those  outside  the  body  until  they  are  born  into  the  family

A  Life  Story  for  tonight—Tell  us  how  you  have  been  blessed  with  a  spiritual  family  (church). Sunday  School  Classes  (Small  Groups  10-‐20):    Why?    To  build  community  and  provide  care

TO  COACH  DISCIPLEMAKING  in  a  relational  environment  3. Family  Formation  Groups  (one  on  one/2-‐3):    Why?    For  a  deeper  accountability  on  abiding  in  the

Word,  on  the  Word  abiding  in  us,  in  loving  one  another  as  the  church  &  being  on  mission  (Again,  the  size,  structure,  method  and  agenda  of  these  groups  are  different  but  the  mission  is  the  same!)    The  Core  Challenge  of  the  Church  is  producing  lives  transformed  by  the  Word  who  do  their  part  in  the  whole  body  and  scatter  the  seed  modeling  LIFE  IN  CHRIST  and  molding  others  to  do  the  same.    The  church  does  not  exists  to  grow  itself  as  an  organization  numerically  but  to  mature  people  to  make  disciples!
