Course descriptionThis course is designed to train police, fire, rescue personnel and persons interested in thetechniques of prehospital emergency care. Thecurriculum, developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation, prepares students for the National Emergency Medical Technician-Basic cer-tification examination. Aptitudes for this courseare good physical stamina, endurance and bodycondition that would not be adversely affected bylifting, carrying, and balancing patients in excessof 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance). Mobility parameters include sitting, standing,walking, running, climbing, bending, stooping,crouching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting. This is a demanding course and requires significantreading, computer skills, and participatory effort by the EMT candidate. Students are required to pass written, computer and practical skills examinations and participate in ambulance,hospital and clinical experiences to become eligi-ble to sit for the National Registry examination.

Prerequisites- 18 years old- High school diploma or GED- 20/20 vision with correction- Normal hearing with correction- Sound physique, not possessing any infirmity of body or mind, that might render you unfit to perform duties.

Cancellations received up to 7 days before the course starts will receive a full refund only if all textbooks and precourse supplies have been returned unused. Cancellations not in that time period will be prorated on course completed andcost of student materials. No refunds after midterm.

This course has been approved by IDPHas a provider course and for all EMT levelson an hour-for-hour CEU basis. This coursefollows the National DOT curriculum.
