NSS UNIT-7Program Officer: Mantu P.RajakVillages: Gangadharpur, Shyamraipur, DebigoriaTotal number of Volunteers: 72Health & Sanitation:Following activities were undertaken to improve the health, sanitation, environmentalconditions of the villagers. Purification of well water through Bleaching (No. of wells purified: 15 in 2 villages) Installation of water purifiers in the schools Cloth Distribution Camp (184 persons, 219 clothes) Plantation and Digging Water Preservation pits (Total 125 plants)Cultural Competition:Following competitions & tests were conducted for school children in the villages. Drawing Competition (100 children participated) Cultural Competition (90 children participated) Prerna Scholarship Test (30 children participated)Special Occasions:Our unit participated actively in all the special occasions along with posters andplacards. Independence Day Celebrations Youth Day Rally Republic Day CelebrationsUnit-7 exclusively took part in distributing snacks & water to school children andvolunteers in all these occasions.NSS Annual Camp – 2012: NSS Unit-7 along with other units, actively participated in the NSS Annual Camp-2012. I, MY turned to WE, OUR after the camp.Survey:Our unit conducted a survey on socio-economic status of the villagers in Gangadharpur& Shyamraipur. 83% children go to school, 9% children never went to school, 8% children aredropouts. Annual income per family ranges from Rs.30,000 to Rs. 40,000. Only 16% of income is spent on education & some significant amount is spent ondrinking & smoking. 57% doesn’t have caste certificate & 28% doesn’t have Ration card. 22% of villagers don’t know about Gram Samsad and its activities. More than half of people doesn’t have own land.BLOOD DONATION: NSS conducted a Blood donation Camp at B.C.Roy Hospital on 16th March,2013. 9 volunteers from our unit took part in that blood donation camp for Noble cause.Daily Literacy Program: Unit-7 conducted a Daily Literacy Program for the students in Gaighata &Gangadharpur villages from July, 2012 to November, 2012. About 28 children took advantage of this program. Every day, they were taught Maths & English in the evening apart from theirregular syllabus. About 30 volunteers (4 per day) took part in this program.Interest Building Among Children: Our group conducted many activities to build interest for education among theschool children. School children were shown some cartoon videos once a month. This madethem closer to us. Also we trained them how to make paper planes technically with videos andpractically.THANK YOU
