NATIONAL SPIRITA Weekly Stirring up the Soul of IndiaThe English Electronic media

seems to have got into its latest BreakingNews mode by linking the RSS(Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) to the

blasts in Ajmer and Mecca Masjid inHyderabad. Channels like CNN-IBN,

seem to be dead sure about the RSSinvolvement in terror attacks citing CBIinformation. And of course they claim tohave inside information from CBI & govt. This is the typical spit and run journalismthat the Indian English media employs.

While this is going on, The CentralBureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesdaydescribed as misleading reports in asection of the media that some membersof the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) have been questioned by theagency in connection with bomb blast

cases. CBI Director Ashwani Kumar saidthey had not questioned any of the RSSleaders in the bomb blast cases.

What then is the credibility of the

Media ?The electronic media, by maligning

an organisation that inculcates spirit ofnationalism and self pride among thecountrymen, is playing to the tunes oftheir unseen masters who remote controlthe media in India.

Who backs these mediamen? The strength for the anti Hindu

stance of the English media seems tocome from the anti Hindu Congress itself.Over the last 85 years, the RSS has beentargetted by the Congress governments.

Anti-Hindu drive is once again on therise as is volubly seen across mediaspectrum and it is an open secret thatthis has the blessings of the Sonia Gandhiruled Congress-led UPA government. However, it is important that the UPAgovernment and its friendly mediaunderstand that it is not the Hindus thatare the problem but the two aggressiveneighbors - China and Pakistan are, andtherefore, they need to work jointly to raise

the overall confidence and unity amongthe peoples of India as a whole tostrengthen against the emergingchallenges from the two neighbors.

Yes, currently the Bhartiya JanataParty (BJP) the country's sole oppositionparty is in a restrengthening mode underits new leader Nitin Gadkari; internaldifferences like in any other political partyare being highlighted time and again andNitin Gadkari is being put in bad light, more at a time when he is also focusingon the priorities like elections in Biharthis year, followed by the ones to be heldin West Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu

next year. But politicians are politiciansand with the friendly press on their side, the UPA government does not want to let

Fight China, Pak not HindusUPA Govt, Media need to

stop their anti-Hindu driveSharad MistryBJP to strengthen its roots in the states itrules (Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka andits latest attempts in the Uttar Pradesh). So, almost like a political Mafioso andtactics, the UPA government uses itspowers to browbeat the party from allpossible quarters and thereby create anti-Hindu atmosphere across the country.

The recent crisis in Karnataka - ruledby BJP - is said to be the indirect 'creation'by the state's governor H R Bhardwaj, former law minister (under UPAgovernment) and a veteran Congressleader. The BJP spokesperson NirmalaSeetharam told reporters in Chennai that"The Governor is the problem". For variousreasons, HR Bhardwaj is charged with'excessive interference' in the administrative

affairs in the state, and BJP pinned him asthe 'problem' for putting the state and theruling BJP in news for 'all wrong reasons'.He has also appraised President PratibhaPatil about the 'crisis' in Karnataka State. For obvious reasons, the mediaspectrum is too happy to highlight the'developments' in Karnataka State.

A lot of noise is being made aboutthe recent attack on news channel for itssting operation on one of the leaders ofRSS group. The latest case is that of amob attacking on July 16, the Delhi officeof TV Today Network whose HeadlinesToday channel that had on June 1 carriedout a sting operation and had aired thecontents (on July 16) of tapes of theoperation showing the secret meetingsof RSS leader Indresh Kumar who isshown as discussing the need for

CNN-IBN, the Indian news (andentertainment?) television channel, seems to be recklessly behind RashtriyaSwayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to exposeit as a terror organization. Itscorrespondent Bhupendra Chaubeyseem to be dead sure about RSSsinvolvement in Mecca Masjid Blast Case

(see RSS under scanner for links toHindu terrorists); just like those Islamicclerics, Indian Muslim apologists as wellas Communists, who are desperate toprove existence of a Hindu Terrorism.Chubey claims that CBI hasinterrogated the RSS leaders.Interestingly the investigating agencydisapproves of it. So whats the basisfor these claims? We have access toinvestigation reports. suggests Chubey.Yawn! This is boring to say the least. Anold trick used by these channels to thrillits viewers. There is an old saying, which

Chaubey dont seem to know. Let me helpto jog his memory: Fool me once shameon you; fool me twice shame on me.

If CNN-IBN and its pompous teamtend to believe that they can take theIndian public for ride forever with thisstupid trick then they have grosslyunderestimated the intelligence of Indian

masses. Indians are no idiots. Theysmartly apply their mind. If not for theirability to see through why would NarendraModi continue to hold his office? After all,the telly channels vicious propagandawas so phenomenal! That none caresfor these propaganda and claims otherthan twits in select-metros must havebeen evident to them, already.

However, one question which willbother people is: following the trend ofthe Jihadists in this country, will RSSsome day retort to terrorism? I have a

New Delhi, July 15, 2010: India'sabysmal track record at ensuring basiclevels of nutrition is the greatestcontributor to its poverty as measured bythe new international Multi-dimensionalPoverty Index (MPI). About 645 millionpeople or 55% of India's population ispoor as measured by this compositeindicator made up of ten markers ofeducation, health and standard of livingachievement levels.

Developed by the Oxford Povertyand Human Development Initiative(OPHI) for the United NationsDevelopment Programmes (UNDP)forthcoming 2010 Human DevelopmentReport, the MPI attempts to capture morethan just income poverty at the householdlevel. It is composed of ten indicators:

years of schooling and child enrollment(education); child mortality and nutrition(health); and electricity, flooring, drinking

water, sanitation, cooking fuel and assets(standard of living). Each education andhealth indicator has a 1/6 weight, eachstandard of living indicator a 1/18 weight.

The new data also shows that evenin states generally perceived asprosperous such as Haryana, Gujaratand Karnataka, more than 40% of thepopulation is poor by the new compositemeasure, while Kerala is the only statein which the poor constitute less than20%. The MPI measures both theincidence of poverty and its intensity. Aperson is defined as poor if he or she isdeprived on at least 3 of the 10 indicators.By this definition, 55% of India was poor, close to double India's much-criticisedofficial poverty figure of 29%. Almost 20%of Indians are deprived on 6 of the 10

Congress-1948 : The Sangh enjoyed verypopularity due to the extensive service toHindus that it rendered durign thepartition. Pt. Nehru perceived the Sanghas a potential political threat, and underthe influence of the Left parties wasalways on the look out for an opportunityto crush the RSS.

So much so that on January 29,1948, that is just a day before the murderof the Mahatma, he thundered in Amritsarthat he would see that the RSS is totallyuprooted from the face of India. Theassasination of Gandhiji gave him anopportunity to implicate the RSS and hedid it. However, the Sangh was honourablyacquitted by the Courts after fighting thecase for more than 18 months duringwhich time thousands of innocents weretortured by the Congress governments.

Inspite of this, the Congressleaders and the English mediacontinues to spread the propaganda thatGodse killed Gandhi on the behest of the

RSS. Once Prof.Rajendra Singh (4thSarsanghchalak of RSS) remarkedduring an interview, Godse worked in theCongress for many years. Can we thensay that he was motivated by theCongress to kill Gandhiji because of hisassociation with Congress.

The RSS was once again bannedin 1975 by Pt.Nehrus daughter,Smt.Indira Gandhi during the infamousEmergency. The rest is history. More than80000 sangh swayamsevaks filled the

jails and launched a never before seensatyagraha against Emergency underthe leadership of Loknayak JayaprakashNarayan. The Congress governmentwas forced to uplift the ban.

It must be noted that in the historyof Independent India, this was the onlytime when the Free will of the people was

suppressed and yet the Congress callsthe BJP-RSS as fascist. It is theCongress which has always sought toimplement facisit methods to suppresscontradictory voice to its own.

The Third ban on Sangh by theCongress was in 1992 during theRamajanmabhumi movement whenonce again the Congresss anti-Hindunature came up to the forefront.

Once again, now as part of theagenda to crush the RSS, the anti Hindu

forces have unleashed propaganda withterms like RSS terror and Hindu terror. They believe that by this, the discussionon Islamic terror will be muted and winthe Muslim votes. They would also beable to alieniate a big section of Hindusaway from the RSS.

The General Secretary of the RSS,Sri Suresh (Bhayyaji) Joshi had issued aclear statement that the RSS oppossesterror and terrorists. He insisted that RSSonly believed in the Constitutional path. TheRSS would not support or protect anyoneindulging in violent activities. The RSSbelieves in resolving matters by increasingpublic awareness. He has also indicatedthat the RSS is willing to co-operate in anyinvestigation if it involves solving the casesof the bomb blasts but asserted thatinnocent Hindus should not be harassed.

But, this aspect is coolly ignored bythe Media. Sri Ram Madhavji also clarifiedthat Sri Devender Gupta was a VibhagPracharak in the RSS but moved on fromthe RSS. Why then is media going

overboard on the involvement of oneperson in an alleged terror attack in anorganisation in which more than 5-6 Lacspeople come together in the shakas everyday? If bomb blasts was on the agenda ofthe RSS, even a dimwit could imagine whatthe situation in India would have been!

Indians who once believed themedia to be the weapon of justice areseeing through the games that thesemedia houses are nothing but businesshouses who are out to earn some fastTRP ratings.

Meanwhile the media continues toattempt to entertain the audience by theirBreaking News once again.

There was a section in theCongress in 1948 that saw through thisgame of the leftists. Sardar Patelrepresented this section. On January 7,

1948, in a speech in Lucknow (U.P.) hesaid, In the Congress those who are inpower feel that by virtue of their authoritythey will be able to crush the RSS. Butyou cannot crush an organisation byusing the danda. The danda is meant forthe thieves and dacoits. After all, the RSSmen are not thieves and dacoits. Theyare patriots who love their country.

The time has arrived once again forleaders from various fronts to put an endto this Hindu bashing.

RSS, Bomb Blasts & Media credibility(Continued from page 1)

(Hindustan Times, Sunday, July 18, 2010)said: 'The tape recordings had beenmade by one of the terrorists himself andwere part of the police investigation in to

the matter. Headlines Today said thetapes suggested a worrying nexusbetween the terrorists and individualswithin the Sangh Parivar.'

Infuriated with this "baseless" and"wrong" information, a number of RSSand BJP affiliated members had enteredthe office of Headlines Today and otherunidentified persons had joined thegroup, which the former say would beunrelated to us and they all hadransacked the Headlines Today office.Police said it has detained 30 people whoare suspected to be members of RSSand investigations are on.

WHAT SAFFRON PARTY? - Even asthe Congress and its allies are increasinglybefriending with the Muslims, for the votebank politics, they do not have the courageand inclination too to either call the Muslims

as 'Green Brigade' or 'Green Party' or theirincreasing terrorist-supportive activities as'Green Terror'. Neither do the government-friendly media dare to call them 'Green' evenwhen Green is the popular color of theMuslims and they blatantly, illegally, andproudly display their green flags in theircommunities as a sign of their supremacyin that region that is almost like an islandamong other communities.

However, the members of both theRSS and the BJP with Hindu philosophyare tarnished with the word 'saffron' -saffron brigade, saffron party, saffronactivists, saffron terror, etc. Writing aboutthe above news, the Hindustan Timesreport (dt July 17) said 'Saffron Rage -RSS men attack TV channel'. In anotherinstance, the Times of India's PTI report(dt July 19) said 'The saffron party for BJP'.

Karnataka is ruled by BJP which isdisturbing Congress party and itsmembers. And the media is helping tospread this word. In one of its reports,India Tribune has said 'RSS sends SOSto BJP on 'saffron terror'.

For more than three days, the TVmedia have been repeatedly flashing thenews of mob attack on TV office. OnSunday evening, Aaj Tak TV channel ofTV Today took up this issue to bediscussed among its editor PrabhuChawla and the members of the BJP andCongress. As has been the practice ofthe TV media as a whole, and in this caseof TV Today and Aaj Tak in particular, themembers of BJP were simply not allowedto present their case and objection. Evenif they could get their view across, thetroublesome 'saffron' tag and the

misconceptions that go with it cannot besimply removed from public psyche. One of the news lines had said

"Saffron activists attack Headlines Todayoffice". In this particular episode, ShinaNC of BJP was repeatedly interrupted with

loud noise either from the anchor or fromPrabhu Chawla. Shina NC raising herpitch asked the anchor about the basisfor the media splashing the concept of"saffron terrorism" and asked why it hasbeen brought up time and again. Well,Prabhu Chawla, the editor simply did nothave the answer and instead almostshouted saying: "All this shows that theBJP is shorn of any productive andproactive ideas and therefore, it resortstime again to such hooliganism. It isimportant that the BJP respect and followdemocratic system and discuss itsgrudges across the table."

On his part, Abhishek Singhvi aspokesperson for the Congress said"the culprits will be punished severely".

This went on for almost 30 minutesand the program was over without anyconclusion.

WARNING WRIT LARGE - Yes, as inany political party including BJP, there wouldbe some elements which are troublesomeand "loony" too. While it is important that

these elements are removed from theparties at the earliest, it is important for boththe UPA government and its friendly mediatoo to read the warning signals writlarge over the global political arenawhere intense efforts are being workedout to keep India pinned down from itsinevitable rise on the global economy, challenging both USA and China.

On its part, USA is openly andblatantly playing a double game of beinga friend to India but is wholesomelysupporting and giving financial aid toPakistan which it has and will use itagainst destabilizing and terroristsupporting activities across its borders, more so in Jammu and Kashmir.

The failure of the latest round of yetanother round of diplomatic talks betweenIndia's foreign minister SM Krishna and

his Pakistani counterpart Shah MahmoodQureshi is yet another distressing signalof the looming challenge from Pakistan. No wonder, US Secretary of State HillaryClinton is currently on a 2-day visit toPakistan to buttress a shaky partnershipwith Pakistan and reports inform thevisit will include talks with top military andcivilian leaders as well as pledges ofeconomic aid.

China is known to be an aggressiveneighbor who wants to increasingly eatinto India's north eastern borders. An SMSbeing circulated warns of an impendingwar against India by both Pakistan andChina - either independently and or jointly.

The political parties and thesupposedly unbiased and sociallyaware, opinion building and wantingfreedom of expression all the time, the

media too should work independentlyand collectively to raise the overallawareness against the impendingchallenges - both internal and externaland strengthen and unite the peoples ofthe country India as a whole.

candid answer for this. NEVER!Why? When the RSS was started it

did had a rebellious and revolutionarytendencies like that of Bhagath Singh andChandra Shekhar azad. They didnt reallyfollow Gandhi during their formative years. But as the time passed they realized thatthey wont stand a chance if they soughtto violence. This is because Indians, specifically Hindus, are mostly peaceloving. Besides, after the founding of Jana

Sangh, now BJP, RSS has realized thebenefits of remote controlling. If youobserve, in any Indian state where BJP is

in power, RSS has its say in the stategovernment to a great extent. They gettheir work done, somehow. Besides, when the government is in mess theyarent blamed for it though at times theymay also be the reason.

Todays RSS I am sad to say isa clumsy dinosaur. It is huge, supposedly well disciplined and verynationalistic in spirit. But it is alsobureaucratic and its leadership hasserious problem understanding anything

other than politics. They have stuck theirheads into the past and have lost theirforesight to look into the future.

overwhelmingly the largest factor inoverall poverty, unsurprising given thathalf of all children in India are under-nourished according to the National

Family Health Survey III (2005-06). Closeto 40% of those who are defined as poorare also nutritionally deprived. In fact, thecontribution of nutrition to the overall MPIis even greater in urban than rural India.

A comparison of the state of MadhyaPradesh and the sub-Saharan nation ofthe Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC), which have close to the samepopulation and a similar MPI (0.389 and0.393 respectively) , shows thatnutritional deprivation, arguably the mostfundamental part of poverty, in MP farexceeds that in the DRC. Nutritionaldeprivation contributes to almost 20% ofMP's MPI and only 5% of the DRC's MPI.MP's drinking water, electricity and childmortality levels are better than that of theDRC.

    Multi-dimensional poverty is highest

(81.4% poor) among Scheduled Tribeswithin India's Hindu population, followedby Scheduled Castes (65.8%), Other

Backward Class (58.3%) and finally thegeneral population (33.3%).

There is significant variationbetween the poverty incidence in variousstates as per the MPI and as per the Indian

Planning Commission's official figures.Based on the MPI, Bihar has by far themost poor of any state in the country, with81.4% of its population defined as poor, which is close to 12% more than the nextworst state of Uttar Pradesh.

As per the Planning Commission'sfigures, 41.4% of Bihar and 32.8% of UPis poor. In a possible indication ofinadequate access to health andeducation facilities which do not showup in income poverty, almost 60% ofnorth-east India and close to 50% ofJammu & Kashmir are poor as per theMPI, while the Planning Commissionfigures are around 16% and 5%respectively.

The findings would provide furtherballast to the argument of someeconomists that India's official poverty

estimation methods are too narrowlyfocused to capture the real extent ofdeprivation in the country.

According to Government of Indiaas well as international agencies, 30%of the Indian Population is living in poorconditions. Therefore everybody is tryingtheir best to uplift the Indian poor. Peopleadopted the non-profit making NGOroutes for this cause.

Nowadays all are staring NGOs,trying to get donations, applying forIncome Tax exemptions for gettingdonations. According to these NGOs theyare for the service of Indian poor. Butpractically, only a small part of thedonations these NGOs are getting ispassed off to the poor and a major chunkof the income is diverted either for thewelfare of the people behind the NGOsor used for some other purpose.

NGOs - Most profitablebusiness in India

    Surya Vamshi

According to a recent press report,in India, for every 400 Indians there isone NGO. According to statisticsavailable as on 31.12.2009, there are 3.3Million NGOs for a population of 1120million Indian population.

Despite the fact that these NGOscollects and spends 40,000 to 80,000crores annually for the welfare of poor,30% of Indian remains poor. This clearlyshows that even though these NGOs areregistered as non-profit makinginstitutions, they are actually working asprofit making ventures for their sponsors.

I request all nationalists to donateyour hard earned money to those NGOswhich are actually doing something toIndian poor and for the national cause.

While the hut made Kalam'screative juices flow, a committee of

The committee has also suggestedthat Kalam's other contribution to MughalGardens a modern-day musical fountainbe demolished as this too defiles theheritage character of Lutyens worldfamous marvel.

Three different expert committees areoverseeing the restoration work but UPAchairperson Sonia Gandhi is believed to

Shewas also the inspiration behind the firstheritage project, undertaken in 1985 whenRajiv Gandhi was prime minister, inwhich the Prime Minister's Office,Hyderabad House and parts ofRashtrapati Bhavan, notably Ashoka Hall, were stripped of latter-day additions andrestored to their original glory.

New Delhi, July 18, 2010 : The IndianArmy is fighting attacks in the cyber worldwith electronic warfare capability of the"highest standard", say officials pointingout that virtual strikes have shot up fromhostile quarters in both sophisticationand frequency.

"The army is cognisant of the threatto its cyber space from various state andnon-state actors. But our network is wellsecured in compliance with the higheststandards of cyber security," a seniorofficial in the military headquarters saidon condition of anonymity.

The official said the army hasestablished an "impenetrable andsecure wide area network exclusively forits functioning ".

Officials in the 1.3 million forceprivately admit they are facing "nextgeneration threats" and are ratherworried over the complex world of cyberwarfare amid reports of Chinese andPakistani spies targeting the Indianmilitary establishment via the internet.

Though attacks from hackers -professional or amateur - can come fromanywhere in the world, cyber onslaughtshave been more frequent from China andPakistan, which have reportedly beenpeeking into India's sensitive business, diplomatic and strategic records.

As per reports from the cyberindustry, China and Pakistan hackers

steal nearly six million files worldwideevery day.

A report in the US-based Defence

Systems magazine found that there were25 million new strains of malwarecreated in 2009. That equals a new strainof malware every 0.79 seconds.

    Howevever, the Indian army isconfident.

Revealing that secret informationhad been secured with unhackableelectronic passwords, the official saidvarious "cryptographic controls" havebeen incorporated in the wake of asignificant number of viruses, worms andother forms of malware.

To address cyber defence, which is

also under threat from terrorist outfits thathave their own trained recruits, officialssaid the army frequently upgrades itscomprehensive cyber security policy topro-actively deal with and anticipate thesethreats.

The force has established theComputer Emergency Response Team(CERT) to respond to attacks targetingthe army's critical systems andinfrastructure.

Another official said the army hasits own cyber audit process conductedby cyber security personnel.

"The audit is conducted inaccordance with established securitystandards such as ISO 27001. Audit ofthe network is a continuous and activeprocess which helps identification andmitigation of vulnerabilities in a network

to counter latest threats as also checkthe network for cyber security policycompliance," he said.

Lucknow, July 17, 2010:Notwithstanding sharp criticism over itsissuance of a spate of fatwas (religiousdecrees) on womens issues, theDeoband-based Islamic seminary DarulUloom has issued a new decreebanning cycling by Muslim girls above13 years.

The fatwa, issued in response to aquery, says that Muslim girls above theage of 13 should not ride cycles as it thenbecomes difficult for them to remainunder the veil.

Arshad Farroqui, chairman of theseminarys Darul Ifta (department of fatwa),said it would not be possible for the girls towear burqa while they were cycling.According to the Shariat (Islamic laws),purda (veil) is essential for Muslim girls,Farooqui said. Any action which creates

an obstacle to wearing the veil is prohibitedin Islam. Besides, cycling also has anadverse effect on their (girls) physique.

Reacting to the fatwa, All IndianMuslim Women Personal Law Board

chairperson Shaista Ambar said Muslimgirls, especially from the rural areas, would find it extremely difficult to go toschools if cycling was to be banned.

Muslim girls also opposed thefatwa saying cycling by girls was acommon thing nowadays. To ask Muslimgirls not to ride cycle is rubbish, quippedShazia, a student. Issuing fatwas hasbecome a fashion these days...theclerics must carefully deliberate over thematter before issuing releigiousdecrees, said another girl.

The seminary had issued severalfatwas on womens issues in the past.Earlier, it had decreed that wearing jeanswas un-Islamic. It had also said Muslimwomen must not do modelling.

The seminary had come in forsharp criticism after it issued a fatwa that

barred Muslim women from working ingovernment or private sector and freelymingling with men without hijab (veil)and also terming womens earnings asharam (unlawful in the eyes of Islam).

Now, a fatwa againstcycling by Muslim girls

Hindu activist Subhash Chouhanwas on Thursday announce as the AllIndia President of Bajrang Dal by Dr.Praveen Togadiya, InternationalGeneral Secretary in thepresence of Ashok Singhal,International President of VHPin the three day NationalGoverning Council Boardmeeting held at Ayodha.

"I will preach the essenceof cultural nationalism to theyouth. I am looking forward togive my best," he said whileaccepting his newresponsibility.

Speaking on thereconstruction of Rama templehere in Ayodhya Chouhan said,"The Rama Janma Bhoomiissue has been continuallystymied by successiveGovernments at different periodsof India's political history. Thehistorical wrong doings, whichhave created scars in Hinduhearts, require an immediatesurgery."

Observing that 'pseudo secularism'is a new threat to the country, he said,"With the rise of pseudo secularism, a

sizable section of the youth in our countryare reluctant to respect nationalism. Thiscould push the country towards a big

    threat."Rampant conversion, large scale

    minority appeasement have threatened

the fabric of Indian nation. Successivegovernments have deliberately ignoredthe agonies of Hindus," Chouhan said.

    "Bajrang Dal can't tolerate the

cultural onslaught. We will continue tofight against the lampooning of cultureat every cost," Chouhan added.

The Bogey of Hindu TerrorIt has ultimately dawned on the Congress party that its minority-appeasing,

votebank politics is taking the nation throttling down. Instead of empoweringthe deserving people, the crude divisive politics of the Congress has only servedto strengthen the separatist and anti-national forces in the country. There isminority-induced/perpetrated insurgency and crimes all over the country, mostof which are not even reported in the media. The Congress has realized that itsregressive, biased and short-sighted policies have proven to be disastrous forthe nation. Hence its attempt to accuse the highly-discipl ined, nationalist RSS,which is proving to be a great source of inspiration to patriotic Indians by itsvalue-based social services.

The Congress has realized that it is accountable for the increasing numberof local terrorist modules, even as the UPA Govt is making half-hearted attemptsat peace talks with a rogue Pakistan, which is supporting the 'jihadis' in India. The erstwhile peaceful state of Kerala, known as 'God's own country' has nowbecome 'devils' own country', with Islamists ruling the roost there. It should beremembered that even though religion-based reservation was illegal accordingto the Constitution, both the UDF and LDF of Kerala practised brazen'minorityism' to garner minority votes en masse. With such illegal reservation,

the so-called minorities have gained the upper hand in Kerala politics andpublic life, relegating Hindus to being almost non-entities in their own land.Right from the time of the Marad mass murders, it was obvious that Islamistswere powerful in Kerala, but both Congress and Marxists turned a deaf ear tothe complaints of Hindus.

It was reported that 'love jihad' was rampant in Kerala, where jihadis luredinnocent Hindu girls and trapped them. But the 'secular' politicians and thePolice kept denying the truth, till a Christian police officer's daughter becamea victim of this 'love jihad', and then the police and the judiciary woke up. Theenquiry does not seem to have progressed due to the 'influence' of these'minorities'.

Recently, a Christian professor's hand was chopped off by Islamists inThodupuzha, Kerala for hurting Muslim sentiments by framing a 'blasphemousquestion in a college exam. Despite the official action taken against him,Islamists preferred a 'shariah'-type punishment and chopped off his hand. Itwas then that Police got cracking and huge caches of arms, ammunition etcare being unearthed, apart from jihadist literature and conspiracies againstcertain individuals and places of worship.

On 25th June, three teenaged Hindu girls were molested and raped byMuslim boys in a Muslim locality in Shantipur, West Bengal, when the girlswere returning from school. The girls are still in a semi-conscious state in thehospital, but none of the rapists have been arrested by the Police, despitewritten complaint. This is the way the Congress party and the CPIM havestrengthened the 'minorities'.

The Congress is guilty of practising reverse discrimination against theHindus for the votes and notes of the 'minorities'. The rich and powerful 'minorities'have been getting richer and more powerful, while the poorer sections and themiddle-class are reeling under the price-rise, general inflation and thediscrimination due to partisan Govt policies. Non-Muslims in Pakistan andBangladesh are not safe in those Islamic countries. Many of them who haveescaped into India do not want to go back. It is time to consider an exchangeof population, which was advocated by Dr.Ambedkar and a few other leaders. Those who do not accept India as their Motherland should be given a freepassage to the country of their choice. But the inept and corrupt Congress willnever deal efficiently with these problems, because it has always been guidedonly by votebank politics. Since most people have veered towards the RSS,

the unprincipled Congress, like the CPIM, wants to tarnish the image of thevenerable RSS and hence the frivolous allegations against it.

The Book: A friend of mine SriJindalji a retired civil engineer gave me

the book India Unbound written by sriGurucharan Das. It is needless to saythat it is an excellent rendering of theIndian scenario particularly after the 1991economic reforms, introduced by the thenprime minister Sri. P. V. Narasimha Rao.It Is also known that the present primeminister Mr Manmohan Singh played avital role in bringing these reforms as thefinance minister in sri Raos cabinet. SriGurucharan Das with his Harvardacademic background and experience inmultinationals like M/s proctor andgamble has picturised the economicscenario and the progress that followedthrough service sectors etc,. The besttestimony for his work I see, is from noless a person than Sri.N.R Narayanamurty, the founder and the architect of Infosys I.T.business corporation.

The perception: Though I have allthe appreciation for this informative, thought provoking and scholarly work, thatlooks like a thesis, I beg to differ hisexpressed thoughts on swadeshi inChapter twenty titled modern vs westernwherein he listed ten reasons of his ownconcluding that the approach is irrelevantto our country. Professional economics arealien to me since I retired as a professor ofChemistry, but yet I have my own perceptiontowards the economy that is affecting thecommon middle class masses of India towhich, very much I belong to.

Swadeshi and inferiority complex:The first reason he mentioned was

that swadeshi brings in inferioritycomplex and the seventh was that smartgovernments ignore swadeshi lobbies. In support of this he quoted thatsuccessive U.S. governments ignored

the plea of U.S. Auto industry lobby, tolimit the import of Japanese cars.Ultimately U.S. Auto Industry could gearup and survive the competition. It is

justified as far as corporate world isconcerned, that too in a U.S. likeeconomic conditions and theGovernmental administrative set up. I feelwe cannot draw parallel with U.S. or anyother country that is dominated bycorporate market driven economies. However it is good that the Indiancorporate Industries like Tatas, Mittals,Ambanis etc are excelling well on theinternational scenario. Now my questionis if the quality and the price paid to anIndian car is as good as of a foreigncompany car, why cant we promote anIndian company that draws and spendsall the money in this country. It is simple

economics, I am sure we cannot sayanything about the money flow channelsof a foreign company. This formsaltogether another subject for discussion.Simple common sense proves this to bea swadeshi approach but quite often thannot the common sense is a rare sensemore so in the corporate world.

Addressing the contention of SriGurucharanDas that swadeshi reflectsinferiority complex I would like to ask, howinferior and what kind of inferioritycomplex was observed in the approachof Swadeshi Of Gandhiji. Gandhiji oncesaid swadeshi is not vindictive but it isa national necessity. In fact themovement partly affected the Britisheconomy, more than that it could instill akind of self respect among the massesof India. May be the concept is much

more relevant now, to run our economyby our elected government withoutmortgaging the national interests. This

Swadeshi - A perspective presentationProf. G.S.Narayanamurty, AndhraUniversity ((Email: [email protected])

demands dignity, a firm will and selfrespect from the administrators and the

political leadership. One requires, a nobler and ripethinking to appreciate this statement andalso a kind of preparation to foregocertain unnecessary materialcomforts(Seemingly) imposed byaggressive propaganda of the corporateworld, to carve out profits unthinkableelsewhere but here, where 110 croreconsumers are freely available. It is inthis scenario, one should perceivewhether swadeshi brings in inferioritycomplex or self respect.

The insight : Another dimensionalperspective is to assess and analyse theForeign direct investment flowing in hereinto our countrys Industry, servicesectors and the fast moving consumergoods FMCG. The first two are mainly anoutsourcing approach since the labourand the technical expertise are muchcheaper when compared to their nativecountry. Thus the products produced herefetches many fold profits when comparedto the production in their own country. Wellit is interesting to note from IBEF (IndiaBrand Equity Foundation) reports, that thepresident of the Technopak Mr.RaghavGupta predicts that the organizedmodern retail market in India will reach80 billion and the modern consumptiongoes to 1.5 trillion (1500 billion) by theyear 2015. According ASSOCHAM 315 twotier hyper markets are expected to comeby 2011. Where as the same FBI reportsays that the total FDI flowed into Indiawas 26 billion in the year 2009-2010. Onehas to carefully distinguish the amountsthat are flowing into different sectors likeTechnology, Infrastructure development,Food processing, consumer goods

FMCG, to have clear understanding andto formulate policies that serve theinterests of our country but not the MNCsthat even buy the governments if need be.

We know the countries like U.S. arefeeling the heat of internal pressuretowards the outsourcing processes andI believe such countries are incorporatingcertain stringent procedures and a codeof conduct to systematize theoutsourcing. The learned author GD saysthe investment in the industry and inFMCG go together but we cannot haveinvestment in high technology areas andnot in FMCG areas since the investorshave a flock mentality. Thus he says, wecannot be half pregnant an American wayof putting the argument. Whosepregnancy? our nations? Then Does itgo to an aborted situation if things

continue like this particularly in FMCGsector. The Author GD has any sanereasons for the recent recession the

U.S.A is facing, apart from the greed ofthe people that are supposed to steer

the economy of the country. The worldslargest bank went bankrupt. Can ithappen overnight? Unless, the so calledeconomic experts rather managers wereblissfully and knowingly complacent overthe situation.

An apprehension: When I discussedthis matter with some people familiar withAmerican banking system, remarked it isthe indiscriminate distribution of the loansto the near and dear in the name of hugeprojects that were multi mortgaged furtherin a complicated manner, making quickbucks ultimately leaving the stakeholdersand the country in a lurch. It happened inU.S, a big country with commandingeconomy. Thank God the recession didnot affect India much, since ours is still adecentralized economy with differentrural banking systems and peoplessaving patterns.

Learn from nature : In nature Waterflows from higher to lower levels, electricity flows from higher potential tolower potential, wind travels from higherto lower pressures, diffusion takes placefrom higher concentration to lowerconcentration, even knowledge permeatesfrom higher centers to lower ones but itis the money a man made one flowsupwards from poor to rich keeping the pooras poor forever. Here comes theimportance of Gandhian economicsbased on Gram swarajya leading toRamrajya an ideal kept before us. I formyself a convinced man that the corporateapproach is no answer to this and weshould design and work out for the benefitof masses in making them self reliant.

The Model for rural poor : Late Ma.SriNanaji Deshmukh has built a model and

showed the efficacy of working towardsself reliance in 500 villages aroundChitrakoot. Sri A.P.J.Abdul Kalam visitedthis project while in the office of Presidentof India and was so impressed and evereferred the model at a national levelManagement executive meet. Here is amodel, that can be repeated, if there is anational will to suit our countrys ruralprogress. Thus let the corporates limit tothe cities activity and contribute to thegeneral economy without robbing therural poor exploiting their weakness.

The question : Then the question iswhether we can evolve corporations oreducate the present corporate companiesincluding the MNC s towards thehumanitarian interests imitating andincorporating the natures laws. It is acomplex and big question. Let us hope the

World order realizes this and India leadsthe world. It definitely needs many a smartHarvard brains with noble Gandhian hearts.

July 15, 2010: Newspapers arereporting that IPS officers are fleeingChattisgarh and moving to safer placeslike Kolkata. Is it not a shame on thecalibre of these officers? The Governmentis spending crores to train these officersand have now started sending them toAustralia and UK for advanced training.

Of what use is this to the commonman if these officers are fleeing from theirduty and leaving the Jawans to fend forthemselves. Reports also speak of riftbetween IPS and non-IPS officers andbetween IPS officers of Chattisgarh andCRPF IPS officers ! What a pathetic stateof affairs ! Before fighting the Naxalites itappears that law and order has to berestored among senior police officers !Mr.Chidambaram will have to sort out thismess and inter service rivalry also apartfrom other pressing menaces like theMaoist problem.

The problem in India is that there isa surplus of officers and that is why theyare squabbling among themselves. Howcan such officers motivate their

subordinates? The Government has tosee the writing on the wall and takedeterrent action to stem the rot.

A combination of four Cartosats (I, 2,2A and 2B) hovering 630 km above earthallows India to keep areas under close andprolonged surveillance. Multiple satellitesensure that a particular geographical areacan be 'revisited' every 48 hours.

Three of the cartosats now in orbithave a spatial resolu-tion of less than onemetre (0.8 m for Cartosat-2B), which means

that they can observe and photographobjects smaller than a car. Cartosat-2B'ssteerability of 26 degrees al-lows it to stayfocused on the object for a longer durationwhile on the move as compared to the otherremote sensing satellites, which have arange of applications.

Hear, hear - the golden words ofour Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee:

Accidents are accidents. Nobody canpredict thats why it is an accident.

Callous and heartless these wordscoming from the FM makes one wonderwhy we have put such heartless men/women in positions to govern the country. What if he, his kith and kin were involvedin one of those unpredictable accidents- after all it seems that none of those in

power suffer from such unpredictableaccidents. When they travel everything is

predicted - well planned and laid out. Butfor the aam admis there is no safetybecause they do not matter in thiscountry. A few lakhs can buy their silence. The tears can dry up since they have notime to weep - the wails and the moanscan be stifled since most of the time theirstomachs are empty.

Now to get back to accidents areaccidents, heres the statistics of theseunpredictable accidents which the FM socasually brushes aside.

200 accidents since May 200940 accidents since April 2010429 killed since Mamta tookover charge250 since AprilOver 600 injured in Mamtas tenure80 derailments9 collisions in 200917 derailments between April and

    June 201090,000 appointments related to

railway safety pending because Mamatahas not been in Delhi (Source IndianExpress 20th July)

Pranab Mukherjee, please answerwhy these appointments have beenpending, since you hold a brief for yourally Mamata. It is disgraceful that you areso indifferent and show an utterdisregard for the lives of aam admis. TheCongress needs to be derailed for allthe injustices heaped on the aam admis.

Anger and disillusion are buildingup and like a volcano it will erupt to burneveryone of substance in the fire andbrimstone of justice.

Accidents are accidents becausethey cannot be predicted - but that youwill win the elections has been predictedby Jayanti Natarajan during a TVexchange. How come something thatcannot and should not be predicted hasbeen predicted with such certainty? Is itbecause of the calculatedly calibratedEVMs?

Mr Mukherjee, you should know thataccidents can be averted and can beprevented with a little bit more of caution. You have spokespersons with theirhollow words to term these as systemicfailure, systems failure and of coursehuman error, according to convenienceand to suit the situation-Accountabilityabsolutely nil.

Remember Mr Pranab Mukherjee,in the late 50 when Lal Bahadur Shastri

was the railway Minister there was antrain accident in Arialyur in TN. Accidentswere rare and without any fuss and with

absolutely no hesitation Shastri put in hispapers accepting moral responsibility.

These days there is no morality andpublic probity and with pygmies at thehelm of affairs one cannot expect suchmoral codes to be followed since thereare no moral codes. So accidents areaccidents and cannot be predicted.

Mr Pranab Mukherjee, will this applyto every disaster or will be reserved onlywhen the poor are the causalities? Nowthat the driver of the train is dead you canconveniently put the blame on him. Butwhy is it that no safety measures are putin place and why were two trains on thesame line? We need answers and notexcuses and blame games. We as anation are fed up with this nongovernance headed by a weak PM andan extra constitutional power - Mrs SoniaGandhi - a jumbo extra constitutional

cabinet called the National AdvisoryCouncil. Advise whom and for what - Food

security, National Rural EmploymentGuarantee Scheme et al. For whom isthis great tamasha and drama when youand your Government care two hoots forthe poor?

When lives are snuffed out you socasually refer to it as accidents areaccidents and thats why it is calledaccidents. Shame on you and theCongress. Nero was a shade better thanyou and your party. Mamata can derailyour government which you and yourleader do not want and hence the trainderailments costing hundreds of livesyou easily jump to her rescue and hold abrief for her. Are you playing with peopleslives, making the lives of people aspawns for your partys power greed, MrMukherjee?

On February 15, 2010, I sat in a cabwhile it made its way through a traffic-clogged Kolkata to the office of BimalPramanik director of the Kolkata-basedCentre for Research in Indo-BangladeshRelations. Pramanik expressed seriousconcerns about the decades-long patternof demographic changes in West Bengal(and Assam), and we discussed thecontext in which we can betterunderstand them. Amitabh Tripathi, founder of the South Asia forum and atireless activist in the fight against radicalIslam, arranged the meeting andwas a key participant in it.

Pramanik in Bangladesh's1971 War of Independence andis familiar with traditional BengaliHindus and Muslims relationsand how much they have changed

in recent decades. While "Musliminfiltration" and demographicchange itself is an issue,Primanik is more concernedabout the deliberate nature of thatchange. He called it "Bangladeshiinfiltration with Pakistani ideas," and thatthe key element to the conflict is thatSouth Asian Muslims are abandoningtheir traditional culture for "Arabic"dominated culture. Tripathi also notedthe growth of Wahabi influence inBangladesh, something that ourcolleague Salah Uddin ShoaibChoudhury also has documented.

In 1905 then again in 1947, Bengalwas divided into a Muslim-majorityentities (Bangladesh, previously EastBengal and East Pakistan) and a Hindu-majority entity (West Bengal state within

India). In the second half of the twentiethcentury, however, the Muslim proportionof West Bengal's population rose by 25percent and its Hindu populationdeclined by almost nine. In the sameperiod, the proportion of East Bengal'sHindu population declined by almostthree-fourths, its Muslim share rose bymore than one-third. Those significantshifts do not happen as a result of naturaldemographic processes, and the trends

have continued into the 21st century.Pramanik noted that while Muslimpopulation growth in West Bengal wasnearly 35 percent between 1981 and1991, it was only 25 percent in the sameperiod in Bangladesh. "How can therebe such a wide difference in growth ratesbetween the two countries?" He asks."This can only be explained by the illegalimmigration from across the border."

The South Asia Research Societyconducted an exhaustive demographicstudy of population trends in West

Bengal since 1941 and found that before1971, almost all East Bengali refugeesin West Bengal were minorities. Sincethen, "there has been largescalevoluntary infiltration" of BangladeshiMuslims "as well as the forced migration"of minorities, mostly Hindu.

Pramanik's own study of Bengalpopulation changes examined changesthat occurred between 1951 (after themajor share of population transfers from1947 had been completed) and 2001.The intervening 50 years saw the rise ofradical Islam as a major internationalplayer and so also several decades ofefforts by radical Muslims to implement

their designs. Differential growth ratesbetween Hindus and Muslims in Bengalare startling. In Bangladesh, the Hindupopulation grew from about nine toeleven million, or 23.16 percent; whilethe Muslim population grew from 32 to111 million, or 244.68 percent.Apologists have attempted to dismissthis disparity as free decisions by Hindusfor economic reasons, but decisionswere not free and even if for economic

reasons they were due to anti-Hinduactions: seizure of assets under theVested Property Act, religiousdiscrimination, persecution, and so forth. And if it was simple population transfer, population figures for the Indian stateclosest to Bangladesh with the sameethnic group would reflect that. So whatdo we see? West Bengal had about 19million Hindus in 1951 and 58 million in2001, an increase of 198.54 percent. Its1951 Muslim population of approximatelyfive million Muslims grew to more than

20 million in 2001 or by 310.13percent. Muslim growth rateexceeded that of Hindus in all butone district. Primanik documenteda situation of "unabated infiltration,"especially during the final twodecades of his study and a pattern

of increased crime in thesedistricts as the Muslim infiltrationbecame more prominent. Hisfindings help quantify frequent

testimony by Bangladeshi Hindurefugees of increased attacks on theirersatz colonies by combined forces ofBangladeshis and Muslim villages fromthe surrounding areas; and my ownobservation of formerly mixed Hindu-Muslim villages now almost all Muslimand the disappearance or abandonmentof the once ubiquitous roadside Mandirsor Hindu temples.

The prolific Primanik suggest whatawaits Hindus in West Bengal, as wellas the darker motivations behind thephenomena noted in this book. "Thiscontinuous infiltration from across theborder is slowly and steadily changing

the demographic pattern in the borderareas, especially in the States of WestBengal and Assam which isthreatening our secular polity andnational security. This is a religio-culturalprocess taking place in a geographicalspace considered to be strategicallyimportant. Thus, the emergence ofBangladesh has created in the North-Eastern States of India certain conditionsconducive to Islamisation."

    Islamization of Northeast Indiano Coincidence

    Dr. Richard L. Benkin

This continuous infiltration fromacross the border is slowly and

steadily changing the demographicpattern in the border areas, especially

in the States of West Bengal and

Assam which is threatening oursecular polity and national security.

Dhaka, July 17, 2010: BangladeshPrime Minster Sheikh Hasina on Friday

July 12, 2010: Labelling the 26/11terror attacks as 'deceptively simple andhighly coordinated with little moneyexpended', the Federal Bureau ofInvestigation has said the crippling flawin the Mumbai police's defence againstthe initial assault was that its officersdidn't even carry weapons.

The premier US investigative agencyhas also pointed out that the Indian forcesdid not have the sophisticated gadgets

and systems to intercept thecommunication between the attackersand their handlers in Pakistan.

FBI said absence of weapons withthe Mumbai police had led to dozens ofpeople being mowed down at five-star

Tindall, now based in Hawaii as theFBI's liaison to the US Pacific Command, said India sought the FBI's help duringthe November 26-28 attack and thebureau deployed eight agents from LosAngeles as well as technicians from

Quantico, Virginia. He said FBI gained the trust of

Indian investigators almost immediatelybecause its agents and technicians wereable to glean significant information fromGPS, cellphones, satellite phones,Internet data, financial records, witnessesand boats used by the terrorists.

'One of the things we learned fromthis operation is that we needed to bringthem something they couldn't dothemselves,' Tindall told the audience, while showing TV news accounts of themassacre.

Another major turning point in theinvestigation was the early arrest ofPakistani national Muhammad AjmalKasab, the lone survivor.

Tindall also said that a Mumbai-styleattack in the US would not likely cause

as much death and destruction becauselocal, state and federal law enforcementwould be better coordinated.

Ahmedabad July 19, 2010: Tenyears ago, when it came to emergencyhealthcare services, India was nowhereon the world map. However, the scenariochanged rapidly once three magic figures108 entered the scene. It soon becamea household name in several states ofIndia, including Gujarat.

A research published under the titleInnovations Holy Grail in a recent issueof Harvard Business Review delineateshow 108 is an exemplary effort. Carriedout by management gurus CK Prahaladand RA Mashelkar, the study shows how108 emergency service is an innovationthat synthesizes research and technology.

According to the study, GVKEmergency Medical Research Institute(EMRI)-led 108 emergency service is fastemerging as a leading organization inemergency health sector worldwideowing to its cost-effective method andpublic- private partnership model. Thishas lent it an impeccable base where itis reaching out to 366 million persons inGujarat, Uttarakhand, Goa, Chennai,Rajasthan, Karnataka and Assam, making it the worlds largest emergencymanagement entity in just few years.

The paper states that 108 serviceshas outpaced the US 911 service withits huge expansion model andinnovation. EMRI spent only 50 cents per

person treated to build the infrastructurein India, compared to $100 in the US.The expense per ambulance visit is lessthan $15, visa-vis $600 to $800 in theUS, states the paper.

As the only emergency responderin the world with a research institute,EMRI is at the forefront of identifying waysto improve knowledge and practices. Itarchives all calls and analyses data tocompile regional public health profiles. For the first time in India, data on thetiming and nature of medicalemergencies is available, states thestudy.

London, July 12, 2010: Acute povertyprevails in eight Indian states, includingBihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, together accounting for more poorpeople than in the 26 poorest Africannations combined, a new 'multidimensional'measure of global poverty has said.

The new measure, called theMultidimensional Poverty Index (MPI),was developed and applied by the OxfordPoverty and Human DevelopmentInitiative with UNDP support.

It will be featured in the forthcoming20th anniversary edition of the UNDPHuman Development Report.

An analysis by MPI creators revealsthat there are more 'MPI poor' people in eightIndian states (421 million in Bihar,Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh,Orissa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West

Bengal) than in the 26 poorest Africancountries combined (410 million).

The new poverty measure thatgives a multidimensional picture ofpeople living in poverty, and is expectedto help target development resourcesmore effectively, its creators said.

The MPI supplants the HumanPoverty Index, which had been includedin the annual Human DevelopmentReports since 1997.

The 2010 UNDP HumanDevelopment Report will be publishedin late October, but research findingsfrom the Multidimensional Poverty Indexwere made available today at a policyforum in London and on line on thewebsites of OPHI and the UNDP HumanDevelopment Report.

The MPI assesses a range ofcritical factors or 'deprivations' at thehousehold level: from education tohealth outcomes to assets and services.

Taken together, these factorsprovide a fuller portrait of acute povertythan simple income measures, according to OPHI and UNDP.

The measure reveals the natureand extent of poverty at different levels:from household up to regional, nationaland international level.

This new multidimensionalapproach to assessing poverty has beenadapted for national use in Mexico, andis now being considered by Chile andColombia.

"The MPI is like a high resolutionlens which reveals a vivid spectrum ofchallenges facing the poorest households,"

said OPHI Director Dr Sabina Alkire, whocreated the MPI with Professor JamesFoster of George Washington Universityand Maria Emma Santos of OPHI.

The UNDP Human DevelopmentReport Office is also joining forces withOPHI to promote internationaldiscussions on the practical applicabilityof this multidimensional approach tomeasuring poverty.
