Corona Schools are world class co-educational institutions offering outstanding education for children between the ages of 3 and 17 and are located in safe and serene environments that are conducive to learning. We are more than just a school; we are a large family where individuality and diversity are valued.
We encourage intellectual curiosity and aim to help each child to develop independence of mind and spirit. Vitally important to this development is the breadth and depth of our co-curricular opportunities. Our pupils discover their own creativity, abilities and strengths through a range of sporting, artistic, cultural and social activities. Which are as important as their academic activities.
Our schools place a high value onindividuality, teamwork, community service and pastoral care, which foster self-confidence and enthusiasm in every child.
When searching for a school, webelieveparentslookforanumber of qualities: confident
and engaging pupils; staff who are dedicated to ensuring that the pupils are successful and happy; an understanding that every child is different and exceptional facilities. You will find all of these and more from any Corona School.
In 1955, a group of mainly Irish and British women under the leadership of Mrs. MacDonald established an organisation called the Corona Women’s Society. The Society’s main aim was to establish suitable schools based on the British educational model. These schools were open to children of all races.
The Society opened its first school, the Corona Day Nursery in March 1955 at its headquarters, located at35,FirstAvenue,Ikoyi,now35,Mobolaji Johnson Avenue. By 1958, the number of schools had increased to four with the new additions in Ikoyi(1955),Ebute-Metta(1956)andApapa(1958)
In 1959, the Corona Trust Council was established and incorporated as a not- for - profit organisation. Its sole aim, to hold in trust the interest

THE SCHOOLCURRICULUM
In line with our mission of providing world class education, the Corona Nursery and Primary Schools offer enriched school- developed curriculum;takingintoconsiderationthe best of suitable international curricula. The Secondary school offers all relevant Nigerian, British and American examinations. There are learning outcomes at each stage of development and up to- date teaching methodologies are employed in the teaching. The academic programme, is supported by extensive co-curricular, social and civic activities, personal and characterdeveloping activities.
THE NURSERY SCHOOLCorona Nursery schools operate the Montessori method whichsupport pupils’ learning process in all curriculum areas. The activities
and the environment aid physical development, emotional growth and cognitive preparation for future academic endeavours by allowing children sort out their experiences andmastertheirskills.
The Academic ProgrammeOur first priority in the nurseries is to provide a friendly, relaxed atmosphere combined with a sense of order and security. Once children feel ‘at home’ in the classroom situation and also understand acceptable behaviour, the purpose ofacquiringnecessaryskillsandconcepts can begin.
By the end of their two-year period in the nursery, many children will have already learned to read. They will have learnt to recognise and spell common words, read them insentencesandusebooksfor
enjoyment and reference. They will have begun to write simple stories by themselves and developed a good understanding of numbers and shapes. They will have learnt songs and listened to stories, and often times be able to act out simpler versions.
HomeworkChildren in the nursery, are given age andtimeappropriatehomework, andwe expect parents to supervise their homeworkandsignoffonit.
