NYSED SORIS: PDRC Online Learning Opportunities: Tier 2 (DRAFT) (Created by the PDRCs in Partnership with SORIS, CAC and other Key Stakeholders) Updated 5-1-20 LEARNING STRANDS I. Technology: Using Online Learning Platforms for Delivery of Instruction This strand will support the use of technology platforms for both synchronous and asynchronous learning and how to navigate technology that is manageable and supportive of our changing learning landscape. This strand is designed to help participants consider options to work through the learning challenges encountered with learning technology platforms quickly and how to use them effectively to plan for learning that is engaging and supports ongoing assessment of student understanding in a different format. II. Pedagogy and Instruction: Best Practice for Virtual Learning Environments Participants in these strands will explore how to distill and adapt what we know of best practice in classroom settings for virtual environments. This strand is designed to help teachers offer meaningful virtual learning experiences designed around the core belief that the first question to consider is “What are the needs of the learners in my care?” Simple strategies, curated resources, and opportunities for sharing and problem solving will be offered. III. Social and Emotional Health: Support Educators, Students and Families This strand will support the social and emotional health of school staff and students during a period of heightened stress and transition. Through a combination of curated web resources, 1:1 coaching, dialogue facilitation, webinars, and live interactive sessions, school staff will be able to access social-emotional resources for themselves and for their students. IV. Professional Collaboration for Educators:Sharing Best Practice, Problem Solving and Peer Support This strand will offer school educators an opportunity to learn the purpose and value of professional online learning communities. Sessions will offer best practice in the implementation of online professional collaborative communities to provide participants with knowledge and understanding of what makes for successful, sharing, learning peer communities. Ongoing Tier 2 sessions will support participants in sharing resources and experiences, problems of practice and support the design and implementation of effective leadership practices, and offer spot-light speakers. Ongoing will be the development of the capacity of school leaders to host, facilitate and drive their own online collaborative communities. V. School Leadership: Leadership in the Virtual Context of Learning This strand will uniquely support school leaders as they navigate uncertain times through a virtual context of learning. Sessions will address the translation of tried and true proven leadership practices to the virtual context of learning so leaders can continue to lead, support their staff, communicate with parents and ensure high-quality instruction for all. Ongoing Tier 2 sessions will support participants in sharing resources and experiences, problems of practice and support the design and implementation of effective leadership practices, and offer spot-light speakers. LEARNING STRANDS

I. Technology: Using Online Learning

Platforms for Delivery of Instruction

This strand will support the use of technology platforms for both synchronous and asynchronous learning and how to navigate technology that is manageable and supportive of our changing learning landscape. This strand is designed to help participants consider options to work through the learning challenges encountered with learning technology platforms quickly and how to use them effectively to plan for learning that is engaging and supports ongoing assessment of student understanding in a different format.

II. Pedagogy and Instruction: Best Practice

for Virtual Learning Environments

Participants in these strands will explore how to distill and adapt what we know of best practice in classroom settings for virtual environments. This strand is designed to help teachers offer meaningful virtual learning experiences designed around the core belief that the first question to consider is “What are the needs of the learners in my care?” Simple strategies, curated resources, and opportunities for sharing and problem solving will be offered.

III. Social and Emotional Health: Support

Educators, Students and Families

This strand will support the social and emotional health of school staff and students during a period of heightened stress and transition. IV. Professional Collaboration for

Educators:Sharing Best Practice,

Problem Solving and Peer Support

This strand will offer school educators an opportunity to learn the purpose and value of professional online learning communities. Sessions will offer best practice in the implementation of online professional collaborative communities to provide participants with knowledge and understanding of what makes for successful, sharing, learning peer communities.
