Our current office in Blenheim Road is providing a good base from which to provide membership services and reposition our learning and development business. We have continued to enhance the capability of our team with a focus on providing quality service to members, business partners and clients. The expertise of our membership and marketing team is focussed on providing value to our membership and lifting the profile and visibility of NZIM Southern in the market. Our Learning and Development team bring a combination of specialist skills and practical experience in: leadership and management as a discipline, adult facilitation skills and knowledge of structuring workplace learning for the best results and outcomes for people and their organisations. We have also completed a detailed review of our programmes to ensure that they: align to organisational goals and strategy, enhance employee engagement, ensure individuals and teams are productive and add value to their work environment, and support an individual’s personal and professional development goals. All programmes are learner centred, experiential, interactive and based on up-to-date international research, evidence and local case studies. There are a significant number of new programmes for 2013 as well as new initiatives in Mentoring and ‘Expert Tutorials’ for workplaces with a high level of expertise but that are time poor. As previously reported, Management House and Lazell House have been confirmed as uneconomic to repair and will be deconstructed in 2013. The land is suitable for redevelopment and is well positioned on the boundary of the Avon River conservation zone. Negotiations continue with our insurers with a view to maximising the value available to NZIM Southern under the respective insurance policies. As part of this process, the Southern Board is considering options for reinstatement of offices and training facilities on the Madras Street site. On behalf of the Board and team at NZIM Southern, thank you for all your support during 2012 and we look forward to working with you in 2013. Our very best wishes to you all for the festive season. NZIM Southern 27th Annual Charity Golf TournamentRussley Golf Club, Friday 2 November 2012A field of over ninety players enjoyed a fine game of golf, good weather and fellowship at our annual Ambrose tournament which raised over $6,000 for Camp Quality, supporting children with cancer and their families. For the very competitive sum of only $80 players enjoyed a game as well as lunch and a prize giving dinner. One outstanding prize on offer was a unique opportunity for a “Hole-in-one” win to claim a return trip for two flying business class to London, or if the prize was unclaimed, as was the case this year, the nearest to the pin would instead take away two return Economy Class Flights to the eastern coast of Australia. This prize package was generously sponsored by Air New Zealand and Chambers Strategy + Communication and won by Graeme White.

We are grateful to all who played, to our generous hole sponsors for their support as well as to the many other kind donors of gifts for our prize table, all of which helped to make this event a great success. (See our website for more photographs).

2012 Fellows FunctionOn 21 November, sixty-five of NZIM Southern’s most distinguished members attended our annual Fellows’ Function held at The Russley Golf Club. Everyone enjoyed catching up over drinks and nibbles before formalities got underway.

MC for the evening and CEO of NZIM Southern Inc, Joseph Thomas, opened proceedings by acknowledging all Southern Life Fellows, Emeritus Fellows, Fellows and Associate Fellows, noting that their continued and loyal support of NZIM Southern is valued, respected and appreciated. A number of professional qualification advancements had been made during 2012. A Fellows Certificate was presented to David Clephane, Group Company Managing Director of Glassforce Limited.

Fellows then enjoyed a very interesting and entertaining presentation by Tony Sewell, CEO of Ngai Tahu Property Limited. Tony maintained a captive audience with his presentation on “working in another culture”. Equally passionate on the subjects of ‘cultural co-operation’ and ‘contracts’ Tony entertained the assembly with anecdotes of his transition to a more informed perspective on the benefits of cultural integration. He hoped that enlightened companies today actively facilitated inclusiveness and embraced the inherent opportunities to be gained from working collaboratively together. In recognition of his leadership and management of Ngai Tahu Property Limited and his contribution to the wider community, Tony was presented with an NZIM Fellowship.

By the end of the evening guests had enjoyed a distinctive presentation, hospitality and fellowship as well as the opportunity to hear the CEO’s update on NZIM Southern and the progress that has been made this year. This included a brief slide presentation showcasing the current office facilities at 303 Blenheim Road and an introduction to new staff. Guests left with an open invitation to visit the office and were encouraged to take away and share a pack of brand new, locally produced, material about the various learning and development opportunities available in a “revived and re-invigorated” NZIM Southern.
