Faith UMC’s Veterans’ Trip to Washington, D.C.
Send-Off Ceremony
Friday morning, Aug. 3, 2012
All friends and family of Faith UMC are
invited to join us in Fellowship Hall for our
Send-Off Ceremony as our veterans embark
on their trip to Washington, D.C.
Breakfast and Devotions at 5:00 a.m.
Ceremony begins at 5:30 a.m.
Our Veterans depart at 5:45 a.m.
Whoa - have you seen the Fellowship Hall? Those
Trustees were busy on their
workday in May - they cleaned
it all - and painted. Well, you
should stop down and take a
look! New paint, even the
heater covers got a fresh coat of
paint thanks to Jason Borer! It's
coming together now - just some organizing of the
church history and trophy shelves and some curtains
and my home will look great! Thanks to all of you
hard workers for making this Church Mouse's home
look new and trendy!

Dear Friends,
When morning guilds the skies, my heart awaking
cries – may Jesus Christ be praised/For the beauty
of the earth, for the glory of the skies-Lord of all to
thee we raise, this our hymn of grateful praise/How
lovely on the mountain are the feet who bring good
news/Majesty, Worship His Majesty! Those are just
some of the worship songs that came to mind as we
made our way around Alaska. Words will never
adequately describe the majesty of the mountains or
the quiet peace in the woods, nor all of the
experiences in between.
What a Glorious God we serve! And in the midst of
God’s greatness, there is intimacy with each of us as
we open ourselves in our relationship with Christ
Jesus our Lord. Never has that concept been more
real than standing in the midst of the mountains in
Denali. That God’s creative force set in motion at
the creation of the world continues to move forward
today, creating new life and new possibilities
through the laws of nature. Truly awesome in my
mind!
As we contemplate God’s creative force working on
our physical world through the ages into our
modern day, have you wondered about God’s
creative force at work in our spiritual world as well?
Scripture tells us that Jesus is our living water –
living water is moving – what does moving water
do? Here are just a few thoughts that came to mind
as we watched the braided rivers coming down off
of the glaciers. Moving water
Provides life giving nutrients
Transports the dirt away
Smoothes the rough places
Moves around the impossible blockages to
create new rivers and keep the water flowing
I don’t want to carry that image too far, because we
also know how destructive floods can be. But even
when water is destructive, God can renew.
I really want us to focus on the creative force of the
Holy Spirit that is God’s presence with us today.
We are created as unique individuals, and gifted by
God with our quirkiness, our gifts, our talents with a
purpose to join in the creative power of the Holy
Spirit to transform our world into God’s kingdom.
How do we do that?
Begin each day with praise. renewing our
relationship with Jesus Christ each day
Worship together in the Spirit of Christ
Pray for one another
Work together as the Body of Christ to
meet the needs of our community and
world
Seek out the ways that God’s Spirit is
moving in our world and join the power
force in bringing the world to Christ.
Think of the needs of others before our
own.
Someone once said that the way to joy in one’s life
is through living out J.O.Y.
Jesus First
Others Second
Yourself Last
All I know for sure, is that the God of this great
earth, who is more powerful than anything we can
create, more knowing that we can imagine, and
move loving than we can know, has called each of
us by name, and longs for us to join with the Holy
Spirit’s creating power in our world to transform it
into the likeness of the kingdom of God.
Come join us as we discover God leading us in
creative ways –discovering, honoring, living out the
gifts and talents revealed in our lives together.
Leaning into the Future, Rev. Donna

Back in our Connection Corner you will find
Teddy Bears that are available to take to someone
you think might benefit from being connected to our
worshipping congregation. There is a card of
explanation on the bear, and there is no cost for this
ministry. It operates completely on donations left

Military Devotionals
August
Mission Project
A few years ago we sent over
100 Strength for Service devotionals to the military.
Once again we are joining with churches across
America to send more. Just mark your offering
Military devotionals. Below is a testimonial of the
impact the devotions have made on one soldier.
May the Lord richly bless your efforts in behalf of
the Gospel. I really didn't know much about the
book until after 9/11. I can testify being deployed
away from family and friends will cause people like
us to be discouraged, and even lonely at times. I
know the times I encountered issues like those, I
learn on God more than ever.
“When I read this book (along with my Bible) in the
morning before duty, it helps me to go through my
day whatever circumstances come my way. The 5th
Psalm 3rd verse mentions, „My voice shalt thou
hear in the morning, O Lord, in the morning will I
direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.‟
“I want to thank you all for reviving the Strength
For Service book program and I pray that it will
continue to bless other armed forces personnel and
give them the encouragement to go through life as it
has done for me.”

One more Summer adventure for our children
Monday, August 6th
We will meet at Faith UMC at 9:30 and then depart
for our adventure.
Children are invited to bring a sack lunch for a
morning of adventure.
We will gather by the Church bus at 9:30 to begin
our day and return there by 12:30.
Permission slips must be
signed for the event – and
they are available in the
Narthex.
Faith United Methodist Women hosted a picnic on
Saturday, July 24 at Hedges-Boyer Park in Tiffin.
An invitation was sent to the district UMW
members. Eighteen accepted the invitation and
enjoyed an excellent array of food, games and
fellowship. Sally Cook led devotions with a
reading, and Linda Lonsbury talked about some of
the UMW missions in other parts of the world and
she spoke about her concerns regarding human
trafficking right here in our midst. She urged
everyone to become involved to help remove this
horrendous blight from our culture. The next
meeting will be on Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. at Faith UM
Church.

The Landing – A
Christ Centered
Recovery Program
A new ministry to begin in
September here at Faith
UMC!
The Landing is a dynamic resource that targets and
assists teenagers struggling with hurts, hang-ups,
and habits by showing them the loving power of
Jesus Christ through the recovery process.
Young people can break patterns of unhealthy
behavior through the community, teaching and
experiences they'll discover at The Landing.
Developed by the Celebrate Recovery program, The
Landing has eight Recovery Principles that are
based on the Sermon on the Mount.
Youth (ages 12-20) examine the past decisions that
led them to where they are today. They'll talk about
the patterns and behaviors that keep them trapped.
They'll pursue the life-changing truths of freedom
found throughout the Bible. They'll commit to
living differently and building healthy relationships
with family members, adult leaders and trusted
peers.
The Landing will equip you and your team of adult
leaders to help students find truth and meaning in
all the right ways and all the right places.
If you know someone who might benefit from this
program, or if you would like to be one of the adults
making a difference in this program, please contact
Greg Glover or Karl Kortland.

So What’s Happening with the
Washington St. Building - &
the bell?
Tiffin Tomorrow is actively seeking funding for
their concept. We are excited about some of the
new possibilities, and hope you are praying for
God’s guidance in all of this. All of this
takes time, but there are several new
people working towards making this
new ministry outreach happen.
Oh, the bell – it will not remain in
the parking lot forever – the Trustees are
busy working with contractors to secure bids for its
permanent placement. If you have questions, or
suggestions – please be in touch with one of the
Trustees. Oh – have you read the inscription on the
bell?
