This will be the 9 th trip to New Zealand for the Academy
Outing Club. This trip is primarily a hiking and backpacking trip
that will bring you into some of the most beautiful country on the
planet. We will be exploring Fiordland and Mt. Aspiring National
Park in southwest NZ. This is a mountainous area of temperate
rainforest and high alpine terrain. The people of New Zealand are
wonderful and adventurous as well, and you will also meet people
from all over the world as we stay in a total of 7 different alpine
huts. We will fly from Boston, through California to Auckland, then
on to Queenstown on the South Island, where the adventure truly
begins. We will be hiking, or tramping as the Kiwis say, on 2 Great
Walks-the Kepler and Routeburn Tracks, as well as hiking up the
Matukituki Valley. There will be mountains, rainforests and
glaciers galore for you to feast your eyes on. We will also have
well earned rest days in Queenstown, Te Anau, Wanaka and
Arrowtown.
