Orvall Corporate Designs (OCD) was established in 2012 by Themba Orvall Maluleke, an entrepreneur with over 14 years of experience with various architectural firms in the built environment. As a senior architect for seven years at Total Facilities Management Company (now Bidvest Facilities Management) Themba oversaw the national development of Telkom stores in various retail centres around South Africa.

Themba then started OCD, which quickly grew to become the preferred consultant for Bidvest Facilities Management on all Telkom projects. The company has also partnered with many national and multi-national companies in the construction of commercial buildings and space planning.

OCD has an impeccable record in all fields of architectural designs and space planning. Its ambition is to explore new markets and trends, and to differentiate from its competitors by providing better services and solutions to its clientele base.

Project Description

OCD was tasked to design the multipurpose centre which will house worship, community and games.“Born in 2003 as Outreach Christian Community Church (OCC Church), 2013 saw a broadening of the vision not only in our name, but also in the scope. It is intentional that we do not identify ourselves as a church, but rather as a centre of EMPOWERMENT with the purpose of the RESTORATION of people to their creation status through the establishing & modelling Kingdom culture on earth in various pillars of society. The broadening of the scope also meant OCC Church and Light for the Nations Christian Ministries had both to come under the name Kingdom Embassy Centre”

Project Description

The South African Nursing Council is the body entrusted to set and maintain standards of nursing education and practice in the Republic of South Africa. It is an autonomous, financially independent, statutory body, initially established by the Nursing Act.

The shape formation subordinated by this simple and orthogonal structure is ensuring excellent functional distribution of the floors vested in a clear network which gives emblematic silhouette not only to the company but also to the city. The geometrical concept of the facade has been inspired by the hexagonal structure of the benzene nucleus of aromatic hydrocarbons. This is the fundamental structure of the organic chemistry and health-care industry.

PROPOSED

SITE PLAN

Delville Housing Project

Project Description

Delville housing project is a low cost housing with112 units. It features courtyard gardens that have appropriate play ares for kids. The site has 112 open parking spaces surrounding the building.

Social housing is affordable housingA key function of social housing is to provide accommodation that is affordable to people on low incomes. Limits to rent increases set by law mean that rents are kept affordable.

Social housing is allocated on the basis of need

Unlike in the private rented sector, where tenancies are offered by the landlord and letting agent to whomever they choose, social housing is distributed according to the local council’s allocation scheme. The Councils can decide who is or isn’t eligible to go on the waiting list for social housing.

The Delville Housing project represents a radical shake-up of an established design typology and provides a series of spacious double-storey dwellings for diverse residents, freeing up larger council properties for families in desperate need of homes

Project Description

Situated in the heart of Tembisa, this combined face brick with tri colour plaster modern 16 bachalor unit building resides. Easy to access undercover parking with smart incorporated usage of space to satisfy your fellow bacholar resident.

Each unit has tilled floor finish with built- in kitchen cupboards and stove. Prepaid electricity meters are provided for each unit. The complex is secured with 24 hour security, access control and efficient management

Every space is a possibility waiting to happen. With the high rise residential apartments in Germiston and Delville, OCD helped transform the old into the new. We created apartments with character and purpose.

The designers were faced with the challenge of creating a cohesive whole by using a variety of design options.

The new development featured a mix of bachelor, one bedroom and two bedroom units in a multi-story building featuring a structure that complemented the

House Blue Hills

Project Description

This house was not only designed as a climatic responsive machine, but as a family leisure experience unique to the family of Mr Themba Maluleke, and thus strategically addresses some fundamental design issues.

Blue Hills Estate is located in the colder Centurion Region. In a localised climate where the sun sets early behind, the main objective was to design a house with ample heat gain opportunities, and sensible insulation from the cold winter exterior. So when clients give you freedom to explore climatic building science as to enhance the comfort levels of a house, you as architect eagerly embrace the opportunity.

The home features several terraces, which serve as areas for entertaining and taking in the scenery. Natural materials are used throughout the home, are meant to “complement the colours and textures of the native landscape”

Inside, windows of varying sizes frame views of the picturesque landscape. In the dining room, glass doors open onto a wooden deck, where the clients can relax and gaze upon the ocean. Wide steps lead down to a verdant lawn.

The perspective site plan expresses the expanse of the site. The building freely uses the garden space by creating smaller enclaves that serve different purposes

House SeweyaSilver Woods Country Estate | R4.5million

Project Description

The original design boasted some of the most cutting edge climatically responsive strategies, both active and passive. These include heat gain, strategically adjustable heat gain and heat relief airflow openings, low energy electric heat extraction, insulated cavity walls, double glazing, amongst other unique construction details. Special sun studies explored the best massing options for winter sun exposure and summer sun shading.

The residence is accessed via a wide and short driveway that passes through a sagebrush meadow and an aspen tree grove. A driveway and courtyard are lined with concrete walls and trees, screening views of the valley to the west. The home’s entrance is marked by a canopy structure supported by thin columns.

OCD believes architecture influences the way that we live. Good design should simplify the way we live and accommodate the demands of life. It should be functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The Vision

The client wanted a new concept home but also with an acknowledgment of the natural environment.

The Design

The architectural design of this house was to blend in with the natural environment which offered our client an unparalleled standard of living. A masterpiece which brings a different image and feel to the home.

House Themba

Project Description

As architects we get super passionate about customised design solutions that uniquely address climatic issues and sustainability, personalised design, and brave aesthetics that speak of personal expression, reflecting the client’s personality. This results in a comfortable “relationship-centred” family home that connects and invites the resident to the adventures outside, while offering extremely comfortable interior spaces. Ample cross ventilation of the focal living space makes the view outside tangible to the occupant when the breeze brushes your skin. This house reflects a high quality lifestyle of a contemporary family. We love the patio that fused with the kitchen/dining room, the visitor knocking at the foyer allowed to look over the beautiful views created. Aesthetically this house boasts clean lines, and appears as a fundamentally “simple” construction, while actually being expressly functional to the family’s personal requirements and taste for neat interior spaces.

Project Description

Composed of crisp box-shaped forms, the two-storey dwelling sits on a wide open property that is blanketed with grass and speckled with trees. Creating a dwelling that was highly responsive to the site conditions was a primary concern for the architects. The team incorporated several passive strategies to help reduce the need for air conditioning during the summer, and heating during the winter.

The positioning of the windows enables cross-ventilation within the dwelling. On the exterior, the windows are framed in black aluminium, that together with facebrick sections provides a sharp contrast with the plastered facades.

Tawanani PreschoolLimpopo, South Africa | R1.1million

Project Description

Its style could be called a new vernacular, inspired by local typologies, materials and techniques, while at the same time having a contemporary look, good bioclimatic performance and earthquake-proof design.

The new kindergarten in Tawanani repeats the concept of small gabled spaces intended to relate to the size of the building’s users. The concept is repeated by combining a series of brick-clad gabled forms that diminish its overall visual mass and break it down into legible sections.

We believe in creating educational buildings that provide stimulating environments for both pupils and staff, with architecture that promotes exploration and offer various opportunities for interaction.

A courtyard at the centre lets children play outside in a protected environment
