Objective 5.01:CLASSIFY the most recognized styles of furniture
Housing Decisions page 532• Divide a piece of paper into four sections. • Label the sections “Queen Ann Style”, “Chippendale
Style”, “Breur Style”, and “Frank Lloyd Wright Style”. • Under each heading list specific characteristics that
would help identify each style of furniture. • Find a picture of or sketch each of the four different
furniture styles and attach to the appropriate column.
Choosing furniture styles is a matter of taste or personal preference...there is no
right or wrong furniture.
Studying various styles of furniture can give you an idea of what you like best and will help you use each piece to its best design
advantages.
The first documented fine furniture styles were those of the
Ancient Egyptians in 3000 B.C.
Many furniture styles used today date back to the traditional designs from the early 1600’s.
Traditional Furniture
• Traditional, or period, furniture styles were developed during different periods of history and are still being used today.
• Many traditional styles came from France, England, and the United States.
• Traditional furniture styles are often named after the rulers of the era or the actual craftsman.
