The Océ TDS700 is an extremely versatile wide-format imaging system suitable for a variety of applications and environments, including CAD, AEG, GIS, reprographics, corporate central repro-graphics departments (CRDs), as well as in government, legal and front-offi ce environments.

The Océ TDS700 begins as a wide-format printer-only system that can be expanded with a choice of scanner (monochrome or color), Océ Scan Logic software for network scanning, and Océ Print Exec® LT or Océ Repro Desk® options for automated job submis-sion.

The Océ TDS700’s powerful new Océ Power Logic controller will meet the needs of the most demanding workfl ows with its ability to simultaneously copy, scan, process and print. And of course, reprinting copy and print jobs is as simple as selecting a job in the history queue and selecting the Print button.

And, with the Océ TDS700, work can continue without interrup-tion—even when replacing toner. With other systems, printing (and productivity) comes to a halt when toner needs to be re-placed. Not so with the Océ TDS700, which enables users to re-place toner without having to halt printing or copying. The result? Maximum uptime.

With the Océ TDS700, customers also get world-class service. The Océ TDS700 is backed by Océ’s global service organization, which guarantees peace of mind, no matter where the business is located.

BERTL has custom-designed a selection of test documents to investigate the ability of wide-format devices to reproduce fonts, fi ne lines and graphics in both a monochrome and color environment.

BERTL used these test documents to evaluate the Océ TDS700’s image quality, and found that its image quality was outstanding in its default 600 dpi, standard, and gray-scale modes. It produced images that were both crisp and clear, and lines and text reproduced accurately and sharply. It printed text fl awlessly down to 4 pt., and lines reproduced well down to 0.25 pt.

Realizing that we cannot possibly show every mode and cor-responding options such as resolution and grayscale, BERTL chose to show how printing color lines and text is affected while printing in grayscale, standard mode. The illustrations to the right highlight how the print-mode selection affects text and lines when printing color text and lines in 600 dpi, grayscale, standard mode, and in 600 dpi, standard, true b/w vector. Notice how the line becomes sharper and easier to distinguish. The true black-and-white vector setting is an important capability to have when text and lines need to be sharp and the variation in grayscale for color is not going to be considered.

Of course, in some cases, such as when printing drafts of large, complex documents that do not require high image quality, users may wish to keep fi le sizes to a minimum. In such cases, they can conveniently select a lower resolution in order to minimize fi le size.

CopyWith the Océ TDS700, copying is optional with the addition of either a monochrome or color scan-ner. The Océ TDS700 provides six copy modes: lines-and-text, photo, blueprint, grays-and-lines, dark original, and transparent, in order to ensure accurate capturing of every detail.

Test Process: Copy (Color Lines and Text Original):BERTL tested three of the most commonly used modes: 1) photo mode, 2) grays-and-lines, and 3) lines-and-text.

While photo mode is normally reserved for photographic or grayscale images, BERTL tested how it would handle color lines and text. The grays-and-lines mode was able to capture the 0.25 pt. red lines and the red text down to 4 pt. with almost the same clarity as in lines-and-text mode. The lines-and-text mode captured the red 0.25 pt. lines and 4 pt. text with great accuracy and sharpness.

The lines-and-text mode lived up to its name and proved to be the mode of choice for this test. In lines-and-text mode, the Océ TSD700 reproduced both lines and text crisp and sharp, down to 4 pt. text and 0.25 pt. for lines. Grays-and-lines mode would be the mode of choice for documents that contain both pictures and lines and text.

Scanning is optional with the addition of either a mono-chrome or color scanner, and Océ’s Scan Logic software.

Océ’s single camera with single mirror, a feature not found on most wide-format scanners, provides high quality, high resolution scans at up to 600 dpi. The scanner doesn’t have a warm-up time and needs less maintenance as compared to other systems with multiple cameras that have to be calibrat-ed periodically, and, in some cases, always leave noticeable differences between cameras.

Scan image quality is further enhanced by Océ’s unique Image Logic technology, which is incorporated into Océ’s scanners. Océ’s Image Logic technology assures consistent, excellent scanning image quality. It brings the highest level of quality to scanned documents, regardless of the type of original—blueprint, sepia and even dark or old originals.

A maximum of 10 frequently used scanning destinations can be set up in Océ Scan Manager through the Océ Power Logic controller. This reduces the time users must spend specifying settings when scanning to frequently used destina-tions. Scanning destinations include:

• The local controller.

• A Microsoft Windows network location with Server Message Block (SMB).

• Internet locations with File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

Océ View Station LT software makes scanning easy by providing the user with an online preview of images being scanned. Many useful tools are included, such as a ruler, magnifi cation, and rotate and fl ip, so that users can check the quality of the scanned image before sending it to its destination.

ABOUT

RReports

Summing it UpFor those already familiar with Océ wide-format equipment, they will not be disappointed with the Océ TDS700’s outstanding copy and print image quality, as well as its excellent optional ability to scan in color.

The Océ TDS700, which is appropriate for mid-size volumes, is even more feature-rich than Océ’s previous models. The Océ TDS700, when fully confi gured with multifunctional capability, is not only an alternative or replacement for analog devices, but also rivals any wide-format system out there in its class. It can be upgraded from a printer-only version to a full-blown, wide-format MFP. Whether it is a color-scanning workfl ow or a black-and-white only workfl ow, the Océ TDS700 can be confi gured to satisfy it. And, of course, the Océ TDS700 is built to withstand years of operation without customers needing to replace it every other year as with some other devices.

The Océ Power Logic Controller is also a real standout—it enables processing, printing, copying and scanning to occur simultaneously, so that users can scan or copy while others are working with the printer. This will help keep workfl ow fl owing and people productive. To make scanning even easier, Océ enables users to confi gure up to 10 preset one-touch scan destinations.

The “instant on” operation of both the scanner and printer is also a big time saver and elimi-nates the frustration of waiting for the system to warm up before anything can be printed or scanned. While this is great for all users, it’s especially a big advantage for high-volume production facilities with many one- and two-page rush jobs that need to be completed ASAP.

Overall, the Océ TDS700 will also not disappoint users. From the Océ Power Logic Con-troller’s Queue Manager, which provides full control over workfl ows, to the scanner’s Océ Image Logic technology for copying and scanning, and outstanding image quality (not only for images, but for lines and text as well), the Océ TDS700 will prove to be a good choice for most operations.

BERTL has no hesitation awarding this superb mid-volume, wide-format device with its highly coveted Five Star Exceptional rating. With the Océ TDS700, Océ has really come through with a rock-solid, very user-friendly device that is scalable to almost any workfl ow.
