Operation Dolphin - Week 2
I am Respectful - I use manners
and show respect for all
teachers
Welcome back to Term 3!
Wow I can’t believe it is term 3 already.
What an exciting term full of teaching and
learning we have ahead of us. I hope
everyone had a wonderful and relaxing
holiday with their families. Please keep an
eye on the parent portal, Facebook and
newsletter for upcoming events.
On Monday the staff participated in
professional learning this included Visible
Learning. They looked at setting specific
learning intentions and success criteria for
whole class subjects and individual student
goals. The staff also had a chance to have a
stage meeting and finalise teaching and
learning programs for term 3.
This week paid sport started. It was
wonderful to see the enjoyment on the
students faces. I watched the AFL skills and
mini game in action with Mr Wiblen. I also
popped my head into the basketball games
with Mrs Ensor and dance – Hip Hop with
Tiana Carr and Contempory with Danielle
Stewart. Rob Brough our GA even took a
group fishing and one of the students
(Archer) caught a Bream. Archer obviously
kissed and threw the fish back into water
before they got a picture – a true
fisherman! The students were all engaged,
sweaty and inspiring. A massive thank you
to Mrs Torresi for all your hard work,
organisation and thorough planning of
another amazing opportunity for our
students.
We would like to welcome Mr James Egas
three days per week who will be taking
Mrs Lengyel’s class while she is on leave
this term. The staff would also like to
welcome Miss Bianca Lowe who is a fourth
year practicum student. Miss Lowe will be
on K/1B this term.
COVID update
Regional schools which includes Ocean
Shores Public School will remain on Level 2
Restrictions up until 30th July, 2021 where
this advice will be revised and updated.
This information is based on advice from
NSW Health, schools in regional NSW are
asked to restrict non-essential visitor
access to school sites and make
adjustments to some activities, such as
choir and band. NSW Department of
Education website will be updated regularly
with more information.
This is a challenging time for us however
we have risen to the COVID challenge
before and have the utmost confidence
that we can manage in a way that maintains
safety while ensuring quality teaching,
learning and support. Our staff will follow
Public Health Orders which are in line with
practices for all workplaces across NSW.
We instruct any student, teacher or staff
member with any symptoms, or who is
feeling unwell, to not attend school and to
take a COVID test immediately or isolate
for 10 days with a doctor certificate until
symptom free. Students and staff who have
attended any venue of concern identified
by NSW Health should follow NSW

Health advice. The provision of education is an essential
service for our students. Our priority is to make sure we have
COVID-safe arrangements in place for every school to
support our students and staff. Hygiene supplies have been
issued and will continue to be provided as needed.
The major changes include:
• Non-essential visitors (parents/
carers) are to remain off school
site;
• The parent/carer classroom volun-
teer program has ceased until fur-
ther notice;
• Scripture/Ethics can still go ahead;
If entering school grounds for
emergency purposes please sign in
with QR code and sign in at the of-
fice;
• Do not assemble or gather at the
front gate entrances, if possible
join the car pick up line or collect
your child and leave as soon as
possible;
• Staff and essential visitors recom-
mended to wear a mask.
We will provide you with updates as they become available
through the Newsletter. You can also visit: https://

Parent drop off and pick up safety
Just a quick safety reminder for the parent drop off and pick
up zone:
• Make sure your cars are stationary and all children are
in the car before moving off from parent pick up
• Parents collect your children and try not to gather
around the school gates particularly in the line of car
zone
• Please hold your child’ hand if possible when they leave
the school grounds
• Please remind your children not to run down the path
outside the school gates
• Please be aware of where your children are when they
get picked up to ensure their safety
• Please remember it is a school 40 zone and remember
to slow down both in parent pick up zone and when
leaving the school on the other side of the road.
Safe on Social Media
Just a reminder please be aware that the legal age for students
to have most apps on devices is 13 years old. On Wednesday
morning I had a meeting with Stage 3
students to discuss aspects of social media. In particular, Snap-
chat, Instagram and Tiktok. To my surprise the apps are being
used by the majority of students in years 5 and 6. Please make
sure that you are
monitoring your child’ access to these apps as some of the
content being sighted by students is not only inappropriate but
they would not be adequately prepared to
psychologically deal with the content. Technological devices
are a wonderful means to communicate and use as a study
tool however only if these are being used correctly and safely.
I also played this clip to Stage 3 entitled - Is it true? Is it kind?
Is it you? (link – Josh Shipp https://topyouthspeakers.com/mlo/
- Before you get your kid a phone – My Life Online) which I
recommend parents/carers to view, then discuss with your
children.

1/2H News
What a week!
Students in 1/2H were
so excited to return to
school on Tuesday and
reconnect with their
friends.
We enjoyed throwing and catching frisbees on the back field. There was even
enough time to have a quick play on the adventure playground.
Starting next week, our class is going to learn about gardening with Siggie. Each
Monday afternoon we will be putting on our hats and getting our hands dirty
weeding, planting, and mulching in the school gardens. It is going to be so much
fun!

We have started learning about Japan.
Luckily, we have Hina, Nagomi and Ray
as our classroom experts.
Japan has 2-3 earthquakes a day, but
fortunately most are so small that
they can’t be felt.
Our artistic side is showing with these
stunning artworks based on “The
Great Wave off Kangawa” by Japanese
artist Katsushika Hokusai.
7
How great are the budding artists in K/1B. Self portraits or
photographs, we can’t tell the difference!

It’s an afternoon of ART here at Ocean Shores!
