1 October is Respect Life Month! As Catholics, we believe that every life is sacred, from the moment of conception until natural death. We especially work to protect the unborn. Every person is made in the image and likeness of God, and so each and every person has inherent dignity. We teach these Catholic beliefs in our homes and here at school. Our theme last year, S.H.A.P.E. was a perfect opportunity to teach our students that they are wonderfully made by God for a specific purpose. They are perfect just as they are and EXACTLY as God wants them to be. Other ways we respect life at IHM is that we participate in the Spiritual Adoption Program of the Diocese of Covington, we make cards for elderly people in nursing homes, we invite our junior high students to participate in a Pro-Life club and we value each one of our IHM students and realize the gift that they are to your family, our school and our parish. Your child may have recently brought home a pro-life bookmark. We are participating in the Spiritual Adoption Program through the Diocese of Covington. The purpose of this program is to teach children as young as Kindergarten age that life is precious and that every life is beautifully created by God. We make a commitment to pray for a child (who is named by each of our students) as it grows in the womb of his/her mother over nine months. This program provides an opportunity for students to learn about the sanctity of life. For anyone who wishes to pray for their student’s adoptive child at home, here is a great prayer: Oh my Jesus, in the name of Mary, your mother who took care of you so lovingly, and of St. Joseph, strong man of faith who protected you both, I pray to you for the health of the unborn child, ________(name of the child), the one I have spiritually adopted. Please give the parents of ______________ whatever help they need to keep this baby strong and healthy. Amen. October is also the month of the rosary. Every morning, we are praying a decade of the rosary, as a school, to honor our Blessed Mother Mary, our patroness, who lovingly said “yes” to God’s call. We pray for all mothers during this month, that they are given the strength from God to answer all that He calls them to do. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us! God Bless, Mrs. Marcos & Mrs. Harper October 15, 2020

Bully Prevention Month

October is Bully Prevention Month. Part of our school-wide efforts to combat bullying is teaching all

students to accept others and make sure no one feels left out through the Start With Hello program. It is

important for parents to talk to their children about including others and reaching out to those who may be

feeling alone or left out.

Red Ribbon Week October 23-31st

RED RIBBON WEEK is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program. Red Ribbon

Week started after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Enrique “Kiki”

Camarena, who in 1985 was brutally tortured and murdered by drug traffickers he was investigating in

Mexico. After his death, people started wearing red ribbons to honor Kiki’s sacrifice. Today, millions of

people celebrate Red Ribbon Week by wearing red ribbons, participating in community anti-drug events,

and pledging to live drug-free lives. Watch upcoming newsletters to learn more about student activities at

IHM for the week.
