OktoberFest The Lone Star Chapter of the Interior Design Student Chapter made a great showing at OktoberFest, held at the
Kingwood campus on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Thanks to the efforts of our VP, Karen Reade, the Interior Design
Club won the prize for the most creative pumpkin carving! Karen says, "I was shocked to hear ' Interior Design '
called to win a prize for our pumpkin, and really didn't even know what the prize was for. Our overall display was
the best among all the other clubs represented, and I think the prize was well deserved for the display, including the
pumpkin." By the way, the prize was a large bucket of candy (including melted chocolate)! Thanks go out to our
President, Kelly Barry; our Secretary, Julie Kuney; and club member Mary Delaney for their participation in the
event. It was a beautiful Fall day, and the event was well attended. German food was served while the Kingwood
College Dance Team performed to Polka music played buy a Bavarian band. The highlight of the afternoon was an
audience participation rendition of the "Chicken Dance." –Karen Reade
ASID Awards Gala
On the evening of October 5, 2013, ASID held its annual Awards Gala. It was a celebratory
evening complete with a gourmet dinner, cocktails and a very memorable and exciting awards
ceremony. Our very own Julie Kuney accepted not just one, but two awards for her exceptional
design work submitted for the contests: Winner – Student Residential Special Purpose Room, and
Winner – Student Commercial – Bar/Restaurant. Let’s give a huge round of applause for her as
she achieved these outstanding recognitions and wish much luck to her in the rest of her design
career.
