October Composer of the MonthGeorges Bizet
Born: October 25, 1838 Paris, FranceDied: June 3, 1875 Bougival, France
Nationality: FrenchMusical Period: Romantic
Georges Bizet was born to two musical parents and they actually wanted their son to become a composer. As a child, Bizet sometimes
enjoyed reading books more than practicing music. After being enrolled in the Paris Conservatory at the early age of ten, Bizet
graduated with awards in both composition and piano. Bizet is most known for his opera, Carmen. When Carmen first opened the reviews were terrible. Bizet actually died at the age of 36 before the first run of Carmen has completed. He would never know the success of what
is now considered one of the most famous operas of all time.
4th & 5th graders really enjoyed listening to the overture of Carmen
the the Active Listening Map on Quaver Music. Many of them
immediately recognized selections from Carmen, but did not realize that
