And now a word from our President……. Hello, Quilters! October? How did that happen? It seems like it was just the beginning of summer, and here’s fall already. I hope you’ll all be at our meeting on October 13th to enjoy the presentation of our Guest Lecturer, Martha Nordstrand. She has made some of the most beautiful quilts you will ever see. (Take a peek at her website for a preview.) Her words and her work are sure to inspire you to try something new, and her workshop, “Go-Wak-A-Mola” will give you just the opportunity to do it! There’s still room in the class, which will be held on Wednesday, October 14, but please register soon to make sure you’ve got a spot. One thing I think all of us are looking forward to is the “REVEAL” of our Whisper Challenge quilts. Quite a few of our members are participating in this very unique challenge. We began in June when our teams of four quilters were formed. The first person on each team made a quilt, which was inspired by something of her choosing, and handed her quilt to the next person on the team at the July meeting. That person had one month to make a quilt inspired by the first person’s quilt, and then turned that second quilt over to the third person on the team at the August meeting. The third person made a quilt inspired by the second person’s quilt, and turned it over to the fourth person at the September meeting. Person number four on each team is currently preparing the final quilt in the series. Guess what? At the October meeting, we will get to see all four quilts, as well as the item (or whatever) that inspired the very first one. I can’t wait! I made the first one for my team, so I’ve been anticipating this moment for months. If my explanation of this process hasn’t confused you too much, I hope you are looking forward to seeing these quilts as much as I am. I’ve been thinking about our Guild a lot lately, and I want to thank all of you who have been coming out to our meetings and supporting us. Our projects and events have been doing very well, and our Guild has welcomed a number of new members and visitors recently. In fact, we had six new members join at our September meeting. We are so glad to see these new faces, and hope they will become regulars at all of our meetings and events. If any of you newbies, or any of you not-so-newbies see someone you don’t know next meeting, be sure to stop and say hello. (Don’t forget to wear your nametags, it helps!) We are a friendly group, and I feel very proud to be part of it. Thank you all for continuing to make our Guild one of the friendliest groups around! Sew well and be well, My Friends! Betsy Weisman President

Save the Date! Our quilt Retreat is scheduled for Tuesday July 5, 2016 to Friday afternoon July 8th.

Quilts For Kids Yikes! I hope that October proves to be a little bit cooler weather than we’ve had in August and September. It’s really been cramping my quilting style. I’ve never been so happy to go to work just to be in air conditioning all day. At home, I guess a wet 1 ½” strip of fabric around my neck is just going to have to suffice. Enough of that. Time to be jamming on getting all of those quilts finished before year end. I got seven completed quilts for kids/teens back at the September meeting. Now my number of completed is at 40 quilts. I’m happy about that. (Remember we already donated 14 baby quilts.) Thank you so much. I’m trying to get at least 25 more completed quilts of varied sizes before the holidays. Do you have a child’s quilt that might’ve been intended for a grandchild, niece, or nephew and they’ve already gone to college? Consider finishing it and donating it. I LOVE getting FINISHED quilts!!!! I have several that I need to finish myself for donation, so I need to get quilting. Intersperse your own quilting in the mix too for even more added inspiration. I do and I seem to get a lot more done on both ends. Thanks for hanging with me. P.S. I will be leading this effort through March of 2016 and then it’s time for another leader. While it’s a bit of work, just doing your best is what it’s all about. Think about it. Is this your gift??? Happy Quilting, Pam Gayle Philanthropy/Quilts for Kids

Quilt for Guide Dogs of America “Woof Woof” by Lynette Anderson’s is coming along. I’ve had a few people volunteer. I have most of the trees finished. Just need to do some embroidery on them. I’m still looking for someone quilt the top when it is finished. The finished quilt will measure 64x84. Out budget is only $125.00. I’ve donated all the fabric and embroidery floss from my stash, but I still need to buy the backing and batting. I could pay a small amount for the quilting. Basically what is left after buying batting and backing. If you can help out with quilting this project please let me know. Thanks, Lori Ferrari-McCoy
