(Dick Fridley photo) Fidelity Bank & Trust proud to serve communities By JACK SWANSON Managing Editor OELWEIN - “What is Rhythm Studios, you may ask. In my mind it is a place to go and unload the daily stresses of life through fitness, empowerment and music. My goal is to make fitness fun and help others enjoy their own “rhythm” and “dance as if no one is watch- ing.” It is during these times that I personally can let go of tension and immerse myself into dance and music while also enjoying the health benefits that come from happy and healthy bodies and minds. Rhythm will also host a variety of events for the community to enjoy. As a Puerto Rican native, music and dance has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember, I am the most happiest when I can dance and I cannot wait to share this passion with others. My goal is to be the “get happy and fit” destination for many. It is my hopes and dreams to empower others,” Cat Nolan, LPN Rhythm Studios is conveniently located in downtown Oelwein. They are across from the barber shop as well as Buds and Blossoms, at 120 S. Frederick Ave, Oelwein, IA 50662. Pole Fitness is one of the exercise classes they offer. “As an exercise, was virtually unheard of before 2000. But in the 12 years since then, it has grown to be a major trend in the fitness and weight loss industries. As an aerobic fit- ness workout, pole fitness burns as many calories as traditional aerobic exercise, about 350 calories per hour depending on weight, but also incorporates core muscle tone and upper body strength, along with dance-like precision and flexibility,” Nolan explained. Pole fitness students range in age from 3-70, and the number of men participating in this exercise is rapidly growing, Nolan relat- ed. According to her, pole fitness effectively combines strength, en- durance, and flexibility training into one fun activity. MMA (mixed martial arts) instruction is also offered. MMA incor- porates Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu, Judo, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Karate, Hapkido, Bootcamp Training, and aerobics. Kids as well as adults can benefit from MMA according to Nolan. “Rhythm Studios is honored to have Coach Ed and his team “Kekoa MMA” at our studio to offer this ser- vice to the public,” No- lan said. The classes are Monday 4 to 6 p.m. (in- termediate/advanced), Tuesday, 4 to 6 p.m. (Beginner), Wednesday 4 to 6 p.m. (Intermediate/ Advanced), Thursday 4 to 6 p.m. (Be- ginner) and Friday (all students). They also offer Rhythm Tot Hour. This is an hour of exercise, music and fun for kids under 5. Parents are en- couraged to join in on the fun or sim- ply relax while we play and get silly. Nolan also pointed out that people can rent the studio for private events including birthdays, bachelorette bachelor parties, vendor shows, fund- raisers, etc. The cost is $50 for the first hour and $25 for each additional hour. “We are equipped with tables, chairs, basic decorations, or bring your own. We also have ice bins, coolers, an oven, pizza oven, boun- cy house (for smaller kids), arts and crafts, WIFI, lounge area, air hockey, foosball, basketball and concessions for a minimal fee. Nolan said she encourages mem- bership for better value. The cost is $50 per month for adults and $30 per month under 18. Membership includes pole fitness, MMA and/or the use of the space during working hours. Daily rates are available upon request (space not guaranteed). There are also group rates. “Rhythm Studios students will enjoy an out of the box approach to fitness while having fun in a clean, fun and spacious environment. In addition, students will greatly benefit from the positive and empowerment they’ll receive from us and fellow members. Rhythm Studios will aim at reinforcing our mission statement of rhythm, strength, confidence, body, balance and mind so that we may enjoy all the benefits offered at the studio,” Nolan said.
