Over the centuries, the Church has demonstrated a wonderful ability to adopt a culture’s favorite symbols and customs and assign them new meaning. Easter eggs have a very ancient pedigree: nature’s perfect
package, emblem of new life, dyed and decorated and given as gifts in ancient Egypt, Rome, China, and Persia. Just as the long hard winter is over, the egg bursts with promise of life and nourishment. Long ago, Christians came to see the egg not as a symbol of spring’s rebirth, but of ours, and as a sign of Christ’s tomb. A Polish legend says that Mary, in compassion for the soldiers at the cross, gave them eggs, but that her tears stained their shells with brilliant color. Leg-ends have their origin in tales told around a hearth, but they often contain a profound truth. The idea of Mary, the first Christian, engaged in a merciful act of forgiveness and ten-derness even in the shadow of the cross, describes the age‑old wish that Christ “Easter in us.”

The Sanctuary Lamp Is Burning This Week for
Dear Friends, I wish all of you a very Happy Easter. A er our long prepara on through the forty days of lent and the Holy Week, we have finally reached this great celebra on of the resurrec on of Jesus. The Church with all its members, along with all Chris ans, greatly rejoices on this occasion because the message of Easter is so special and meaningful to all believers, namely that death has no power over us because there awaits us something more powerful than death – the resurrec on. There are people who deny the resurrec on of Jesus. Those are the non‐Chris ans. All Chris ans accept the resurrec on because it is one of the essen al truths on which our faith is based. As St. Paul puts it: “If Christ has not been raised, then empty is our preaching; empty, too, your faith. Then we are also false witnesses to God, because we tes fied against God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised, and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain; you are s ll in your sins. (1 Cor. 15:14‐17) As we rejoice in the celebra on of the Resurrec on of Christ, may the peace that the risen Christ offers everyone be in our homes and in our hearts. Let us also pray that the same peace may prevail in all parts of the world. I want to thank the volunteers from the Knights of Columbus who helped with the work in the church for the grinding and polishing of our church floor. We try to keep our church floor nice and shiny and it needs to be ground occasionally. The last me it was done was many years ago and here it was ge ng me to do it again. The
floor under the pews was already dull and had to be refinished. For doing the same, we had to move all the benches to provide open space for the terrazzo people to do their work. Thanks to our Knights who came forward to help with this task and we were able to complete the work in a week. As I had hoped, we were able to complete it before Easter. Our next project is the replacement of the church air condi oner. We have made progress and have been able to move the plans to the Archdiocese for their approval. Presently what is lacking is the clearance from the Archbishop to proceed with the project. Once we have that, we will start the implementa on of the project. It will take a few months for us to procure the air condi oner. The plan is that the installa on will take place within one week a er all the things are in place. This way the church will not be without air‐condi oning for the weekends. The project will cost 50% more than what we had originally planned for. We will use our savings to cover the difference. There could be other expenses that may be needed to complete the project. We have to keep in mind that our building is over 60 years old and may need some upgrading of certain things like electrical equipment and fire alarm. We are hoping that we will not have to make those expenses, but if we are told to do them, we will take care of those too, and it will mean expenses that we did not plan for. Fortunately, we have enough money in the savings to take care of these needs. So what needs to be done, will be taken care of. I will be away for the next two weeks, as I am going to India for the wedding of my niece. I would have loved to stay back with my family for a longer period, but since I have another travel coming up in June, I cannot stay there for too long. I hope and pray that the good Lord will keep me safe and secure during this journey. May this Easter season strengthen your faith, and may you experience greater peace of the Risen Christ in your lives.
God bless you all. Fr. George
