MARY HELP OF CHRISTIANS CHURCH

FAIRBORN, OHIO MAY 10, 2020

FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER We know the way that leads where the Lord goes – it is the way of service. We are chosen and consecrated to proclaim the glorious works of the Lord. Each of us has a role to play in that proclamation. The order of the Church comes from the two great commandments – love of God and love of neighbor. The apostles associated deacons with themselves in the ministry of the Christian community. That association remains in force today. We are servants to all of our sisters and brothers in the world. Our use of time, talent and treasure is

successful to the extent that we live lives of love of God, demonstrated in our active care for each other. This Sunday the readings are: (1) Acts 6: 1-7 (2) 1 Peter 2: 4-9 (3) John 14: 1-12. Gather # 1073 Year A Next Sunday the readings will be: (1) Acts 8: 5-8, 14-17 (2) 1 Peter 3: 15-18 (3) John 14: 15-21.Gather # 1076 Year A

UPDATE

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Offering Option

A few of our parishioners have their offerings to our parish set up as

“automatic” checks from their banking institution. We receive a

check from their banking institution at set times and for set amounts,

as predetermined by the parishioner. This type of giving saves the

parishioner from writing manual checks and also does not cost the

parish anything. The automatic checks are posted to our

parishioner’s donation record, just as if a manual check had been

written. If you think you might be interested in this option for your

support of the parish, please ask your bank to help you set this

up. We are told it is very easy.

Most online offering programs typically charge the parish a 4%-5%

fee off the top. If we used that type of program, an offering of

$50.00 would yield about $47.50. Instead, we avoid this fee by

receiving automatic checks, as described above. Thanks to all our

parishioners for your continued support of our parish in this very

uncertain time!

Furloughed? Laid off? Working from home?

This might be a great time to review your resume, just in case. Whether you are actively looking, considering looking for a new job, or just perusing job postings to see what’s out there, updating your resume now will help you “be ready” for whatever the future brings for you. Hi, I’m Judith Schimpf, as a MHC parishioner for 10 years and a career coach for more than 20 years,

I am volunteering to help MHC Parishioners (like our name says). I will review your resume or help you to write it, help you with your job search, to prep for an interview, or talk about your situation and concerns. I have worked with people who have been laid off, changing careers, or retiring. I can be reached at [email protected] so let me know how I can help.

Celebrating a Golden or Silver Wedding Anniversary Novena Prayer to St. Rocco Patron Saint Of Contagious Diseases

O Great St. Rocco, deliver us, we beseech thee, from the scourges of God; through thy intercession, preserve our bodies from contagious diseases, and our souls from the contagion of sin. Obtain for us salubrious air; but, above all, purity of heart. Assist us to make good use of health, to bear suffering with patience; and, after thy example, to live in the practice of penance and charity, that we may one day enjoy the happiness which thou has merited by thy virtues. St. Rocco, pray for us (say three times).

loved ones with flowers and flags at their gravesites. Please

remember that at our parish cemetery, decorations placed on loved

one’s gravesites for Memorial Day should be removed after a period

of seven days. If you are unable to return to the cemetery to remove

your items, the city will remove them for you (our cemetery is part of

the Fairborn cemetery). Only the concrete pads/ledges may be used

for pots and other decorative items, so as to reduce the city’s mowing

and trimming time. Thanks for helping us comply with the city’s

policies in order to keep our section of the cemetery looking nice.

Blessings to all as we celebrate Memorial Day!

CELEBRATE OUR MOTHERS

If You Can’t Receive Communion, Make a Spiritual Communion “Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.” Act of Spiritual Communion The Church encourages frequent, even daily, Holy Communion, but if at any time we cannot go to Mass in or out of this season of the coronavirus, we can still unite ourselves to the Eucharist through making a spiritual Communion. By making an Act of Spiritual Communion, we express our faith in Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist and ask him to unite himself with us. Here is the Act of Spiritual Communion written by St. Alphonsus de Liguori:

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you

that I am going to prepare A place for you?

The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord In the Archdiocese of

Cincinnati is Sunday, May 24th

(the 7th Sunday of Easter).

The Ascension of the Lord will

be celebrated on the Seventh

Sunday of Easter in Ohio

Rome, the Catholic bishops of Ohio decided to

move the yearly celebration of the Feast of the

Ascension of the Lord from Thursday of the

Sixth Week of Easter to the Seventh Sunday of

Easter.

This change has been in effect since June 4,

2000.

A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth

tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"

God said, "Your angel will be waiting for you

and will take care of you."

The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do

anything but sing and smile to be happy."

God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also

smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very

happy."

Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand

when people talk to me if I don't know the language?"

God said,

"Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you

will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will

teach you how to speak."

"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"

God said,

"Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."

"Who will protect me?"

God said,

"Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."

"But I will always be sad because I will not

see you anymore."

God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me

and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will

always be next to you."

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from

Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to

leave now, please tell me my angel's name."

God said, "You will simply call her,

"Mom."

Day of Prayer for Humanity

Dear fellow believers and brothers and sisters in humanity,

Our world is facing at the moment a great danger that threatens the lives of millions of

people around the world due to the growing spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19)

pandemic. While we reaffirm the role of medicine and scientific research in fighting

this pandemic, we should not forget to seek refuge in God, as we face this severe crisis.

Therefore, we call upon all peoples around the world to pray according to each one’s,

respective religious convictions, to observe fast and to do good deeds to end this

pandemic. May each of us, wherever we are, and according to the teachings of our

own respective faith traditions and philosophies, seek divine help to rescue ourselves

and the entire world from this adversity, to inspire scientists to find a cure for the virus

and to save the whole world from the health, economic, and human repercussions of

this serious pandemic.

As part of its efforts to realize the objectives of the Document on Human Fraternity,

the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity proposes Thursday, 14 May 2020 as a Day

of prayers, fasting and works of charity for the good of all humanity. In this regard, the

Committee invites all religious leaders and peoples around the world to respond to this

call together; to beseech God, the Almighty to safeguard the entire world, to help us

overcome this pandemic, to restore security, stability, health, and prosperity, so that,

once this pandemic-crisis is over, our world may become a better place for humanity

and for human fraternity than ever before.
