SUMMARY AND INTERPRETATIONThis was a 35-year-old man who allegedly was chased by police and abandoned his car running into the darkness. Hisbody was found the next morning not a great distance from where his car was abandoned at the edge of some woodsnext to a parking lot.
Autopsy examination revealed no evidence of any significant trauma. The internal organs were in a generally good stateof health. The lungs showed pulmonary congestion, edema and focal hemorrhage. The heart was mildly hypertrophied.Toxicological studies were significant for the presence of ethanol in a concentration of 110 mg/dL in aortic blood and1-benzylpiperazine at concentrations of 1.0 and 1.3 mg/L in aortic and iliac vein blood respectively. Benzylpiperazine isa stimulant drug with presumed potential toxicity similar to amphetamines. In my opinion this mans death was mostlikely the result of ethanol and benzylpiperazine intoxication.
