6. DEO Will Hugli, SN reminded our squadrons of the need to document all scheduled on the water training in your bridge minutes and schedules. This is needed to make sure that these training events are covered by our USPS liability insurance.

Prior to the conclusion of our Saturday meeting, DEO Will Hugli, SN taught a USPS course on Operations Training. All new, prospective and even existing Bridge members can benefit from this course and hopefully our D/15 squadrons will offer it in the near future for those who could not attend this class.

A Message from Lt/C Ronald Jones, AP, Coordinator of the United States Power Squadrons® Weather-Ready Nation Ambassadors Program—The following message is from the United States Weather Service:

Here are a few collaborative opportunities that we encourage you and your organization to participate in with NWS and NOAA. Your engagement in these opportunities goes a long way to helping communities across the country be ready, responsive, and resilient.

(1) Help Simplify and Clarify NWS Hazard MessagesNWS is collecting comments through 31 May 2017, on a proposed

operational demonstration to consolidate (i.e., reduce the number of), and reformat winter- and flood-based Watches, Warnings, and Advisories (WWA). The proposed changes are based on feedback from surveys NWS issued in the fall of 2016 and also on the results of social science research. Analyses from these efforts indicate that users are sometimes confused by the large number of hazard messages or "products" NWS currently issues. Feedback has also indicated NWS should apply a consistent product formatting approach to communicate expected hazards and associated impacts.

The surveys are available at the following links and will remain open through 31 May 2017:

Middendorf’s Restaurant7th Annual Rendezvous

Saturday, 3 June,1130Baton Rouge Sail & Power Squadron

It's hard to believe that this will be our 7th rendezvous at Middendorf’s. They keep getting bigger, better and the talk of the Gulf Coast. The rendezvous at Middendorf’s this year will be on 3 June. We again will be greeting, meeting and eating at the outside pavilion by the piers. If you weren't able to join us before, it’s self-service, you order your meals at the outside bar and your name is called when your order is ready. The reservation is for 11:30 AM but you can arrive at your leisure since we

will have the tables reserved.

You can come by boat, train, seaplane, PWC or automobile. If you come by boat you just need to go at a dead idle going under

the bridge and past the pilings. If you are coming in a big boat you need to arrive early as the available slips fill up quickly. Just to refresh your memory you take exit 15 off of I-55 and do some dead reckoning from there.

All the District 15 squadron members and guests are invited. This will be a great time to meet members of the other squadrons and talk about boating and fishing.

Come out and join us, the food is great, the adult beverages are cold and the company will be fabulous. Let's make this the largest rendezvous on the Gulf Coast this year. We had 68 members and guests last year from 3 squadrons.

Please contact me if you will be coming as we need to have a headcount by May 31 so the correct number of tables can be reserved. You can e-mail me at [email protected]

MMSI, an acronym for Maritime Mobile Service Identity, is like a home telephone number for your VHF/DSC and AIS radios. When you obtain an MMSI, information about you and your boat is entered into a database. When you transmit an emergency DSC call, your MMSI number allows the Coast Guard to read the information about you and your boat. If you do not plan to cross borders into Mexico, Canada, the Bahamas or beyond, then you’re entitled to get a free MMSI number from USPS.* Use the link below to get more information and register for an MMSI. *If you do plan to cross borders and use your VHF/DSC radio while in foreign waters, you are encouraged to get an FCC Station License and MMSI number. There is a cost associated with those. Email: Richard Edel [email protected] more: http://www.usps.org/php/mmsi_new/

Karen Bailey Webber with David Webberfrom their Great Loop Travels

We are on the way to Norfolk and are leaving our boat there while we return home for a couple of weeKs. We stopped at Roanoke Island and Elizabeth City on the way. Our flight home isn't until the weekend and we had some extra time, so we stayed in Manteo for three nights. There were also some weather issues.

Manteo is on Roanoke Island situated between the Outer Banks and the main land. While there we rented a car and explored the area. We drove to Kill Devll Hills to see the Wright Brothers memorial.

Anyone interested in following our blog can sign up at www.webbersloopin.com for updates and photographs of our trip.

Chester Cooke is also posting Karen and David updates in the New Orleans Power Squadron group on Facebook.
