Plans are under way for 2020 Camp. Since this is our 39 th year, you may be familiar with our summer program for gifted and talented students. OWjL is designed to meet the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of gifted and talented middle school students in Central Ohio. It offers a place for students to learn new ideas, be challenged, and interact with others who have similar abilities. The academic program of OWjL features a liberal arts curriculum with classes in humanities, creative arts, mathematics, science, logic, and computers. Campers also participate in a variety of cultural, recreational, and social activities. The setting at Ohio Wesleyan University provides a campus experience with full 24-hour supervision by adult counselors. While academic guidelines are used in the competitive admissions process, creativity, talent, leadership, and a desire to learn are also part of the evaluation consideration. Qualified current 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Tuition for 2020 camp is $680.00. This fee covers the entire cost of the program. Financial assistance is available. Through the generous support of Ohio Wesleyan University, numerous corporations, community groups, and individuals, we are able to offer a substantial scholarship program. Each student scholarship is based upon demonstrated need and typically ranges from 20-100 percent of the camp fee. First consideration for scholarship support will be given to new applicants; however, financial aid recipients from previous years are eligible to reapply. For your convenience, a financial aid application is attached. A complete application package includes: Student Form, Student Essay, Parent/Guardian Form, School Form and Two Teacher Forms. General Information 1. 2020 OWjL Camp dates (current grade):

6th grade: June 7-12 or June 21-26 7th grade: June 7-12, June 14-19 or June 21-26

8th grade: June 14-19 2. The OWjL Camp fee of $680.00 is comprehensive and covers all costs of the program, including tuition, room and board, and

camp materials. The student must provide his or her own transportation to and from camp. 3. OWjL has a capacity of approximately 180 students per week. Students live in family units in a university dormitory with adult

counselors. Meals are provided in a university dining hall. 4. Students select four classes to take during the week of camp. Classes meet each day of the week. OWjL teachers are selected

from area colleges, universities, school systems, and the Central Ohio community. Neither grades nor credits are given. 5. All camp activities are part of the overall experience for a student at OWjL. Participation in supervised social and recreational

activities is expected. 6. Students are not permitted leaves of absence since the week is short and activities are planned throughout the day and evening.

Each week of camp begins Sunday evening and continues through Friday evening. Please do not apply if you cannot be in attendance for the entire camp week. Students are not excused for team practices, sports events, concerts, or other special events.

Tips for Parents/Guardians 1. All forms are available to be completed and submitted online at http://owjl.owu.edu. 2. Remind your child to request reference letters in a polite manner, well in advance of the deadline. 3. Our goal is to complete the admission and notification process by mid to late March. You are welcome to

contact the OWjL office by email after the end of March if you have not received notification from OWjL Camp. 4. More information on OWjL Camp can be found on our website at http://owjl.owu.edu. 5. Email us at [email protected] with questions.

The OWjL Program is fortunate to be able to offer financial assistance to help offset camp costs through the generous contributions of foundations, organizations, community groups, and individuals. Student scholarships are based upon demonstrated financial need and typically range from 20-100 percent of the camp fee ($680.00 for 2020). First consideration for scholarship support will be given to new applicants; however, financial aid recipients from previous years are eligible to reapply. We use the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Guidelines to determine eligibility.
