Welcome to the World Congress on Science and Football 2019.

It gives us great pleasure to invite you to the World Congress on Science and Football that will be hosted by Victoria University’s Institute for Health & Sport.

The 9th World Congress on Science and Football (WCSF2019) will be held from 4 – 7 June 2019 in Melbourne, Australia.

The multidisciplinary congress will gather international academics, researchers from the natural, human and social sciences, as well as practitioners and professionals from industry and government.

It will highlight innovation and the newest translational research and applied approaches within five codes of football: Soccer, Rugby, and Australian, American and Gaelic Football.

The congress will promote the use of science in football and ensure the outcomes are transitioned to practitioners in all football codes. There is a need to involve stakeholders from all football codes to highlight the newest research results and scientific methodologies to ensure that strategies support the application of these approaches.

We need to create strong connections across all the diverse disciplines working in science and football by knowing more about what stakeholders require, by creating better connections between research, practice and strategy, and by making a difference to practice through high quality translational research for the greater football family.

This desire to be inclusive of and engage with all codes of football has led to the congresses major theme:

“Many Codes, Diverse Disciplines, One Football Family!”

WCSF HISTORYWORLD CONGRESSES ON SCIENCE AND FOOTBALL

The World Congresses on Science and Football are held every four years (after beginning in 1987) and aim to provide a scientific forum for researchers and practitioners within all football codes in which to present their recent work, to advance the use of science in football. All discipline areas are represented: biomechanics, coaching, exercise physiology, match analysis, motor behaviour, performance profiling, psychology, sports medicine and training.

Innovation and the newest translational research and applied approaches within the five codes of football will be the focus of the 9th World Congress on Science and Football. Four days of keynote presentations, parallel stream sessions and workshops will focus on the key themes:

COACHING – EXPLORING THE SCIENCE AND PRACTICE OF COACHING. Open to all scientific disciplines whose research affects coaching practice.

TECHNOLOGY IN SPORTCurrent perspectives on technologies to track and monitor team-sport output, including manual video analysis, semi-automated tracking, wearables and advancements in turf and surface technologies.
