ON THE MOVE IN ICELANDCalling on the Name of God in the Nordic Nation

There’s never a time when Laurie and I travel to a for-eign land for the sake of the Gospel that we don’t find

ourselves trusting in the name of our God. We always need Him.

It was no different when, earlier this year, we went on a long-overdue trip to Iceland and experienced God as El Roi—The God Who Sees Me.

It was a humbling and thrilling trip where God saw us and was intimately involved as He sent us back to a place my father had traveled to 25 years earlier to plant a small seed for the Gospel of Christ.

A Little HistoryMany TBN viewers are very familiar with Iceland because my parents had been traveling there since the 1980s. It was always the place they stopped whenever they were flying to Russia.

Of course, my dad was regularly looking for new territory to plant a flag for the Gospel, and Iceland was no exception. On one of his many layovers in the country, while read-ing a local newspaper, he stumbled upon the story of Erik Erickson. It said he had started a local Christian TV station called Omega TV.

Of course, my dad was curious, so he immediately sought out Erickson. He was able to find his phone number and gave him a call. When Erik heard my father on the other

end of the line, he thought it was a prank call. “Is this really Paul Crouch—the pioneer of global Christian television— calling me?!”

There was God again, El Roi watching over His children, making connections.

After Erik told my dad the story of how he got the station started with a small, 10-watt transmitter, my dad proclaimed with a smile, “You need a stronger signal!”

A few weeks later, TBN’s Chief Engi-neer, Ben Miller, was in Iceland to place an order for a thousand-watt transmit-ter—much more powerful than Erick-son had even imagined.

Erik never forgot my dad’s encourage-ment, “Don’t despise small beginnings.”

That small seed, along with the use of satellite, has since caused the message of Christ to reach millions of homes in Iceland, Scandinavia, and Europe.

The Return to IcelandThough many years had passed since my dad and Erik broke a barrier in Ice-land, The God Who Sees Me knew it was time for us to reconnect. This year, He made that possible, and He did it in the simplest way. I just began to think about Iceland and Erik, and I wondered how things were going. The more it came to my mind, the more I knew that was God telling me it was time to return.

When we finally reconnected with Erik, his excitement was contagious.

He was ready to move forward! Erik and his wife spoke to us with pas-sion for Christ. It turns out that, as it approaches its Silver Anniversary, Omega TV has just received approval from Iceland’s government to add an “English only” Christian channel to its lineup. Once equipment is pur-chased, they’ll be broadcasting TBN 24/7 throughout all of Iceland in Eng-lish, too. That means more individuals and families throughout the island will have access to life-changing Christian programming!

These kinds of things only happen because God sees this ministry and He’s watching over us … and He’s moving on the hearts of generous people like you.
