1. BLOWING LIKE THE WINDW H AT Y O U N E E D : Masking or painter’s tape; straws; ping-pong balls; obstacles such as cones, chairs, or stools (optional)

W H AT Y O U D O :• Use the tape to create a starting line and a finish line about 15 feet apart.• Give each kid a straw and a ping-pong ball.• Kids will compete in a race to move their ball from the starting line to the

finish line. • To race:

ú Kids blow air through the straw to move their ball. ú If kids touch their ball with their body or with their straw, they must go

back to the starting line and begin again. ú The first kid to reach the finish line wins.

• Optional: Divide the group into two teams and compete in a relay race. Teams must wait until their teammate’s ping-pong ball crosses the finish line before the next member of the team can go. You can add obstacles for the kids to move their ping-pong balls around, such as cones, chairs, or stools.

W H AT Y O U S AY:“What made the ping-pong balls move? (air, breath) Even though we couldn’t see the air, we could see the effect of the air. Can you think of anything you can’t see, but you know it is there? (Give kids a moment to respond.) What about the wind? We can’t see wind, but when we FOCUS on what we can see, like trees swaying or kites flying or flags flapping, we know the wind is there. In our Bible story today, Paul is telling us to FOCUS on what we can see, like mountains, the sky, stars, animals, and people. Focusing on what we CAN see in creation points us to a God we CAN’T see.”

2. CREATION’S CREATIVITYW H AT Y O U N E E D : “What Do You See?” Activity Pages, pencils

W H AT Y O U D O :• Tell kids they get to go on a scavenger hunt.• Pair kids up and give each pair a “What Do You See?” Activity Page

and a pencil. • Challenge kids to find as many of the items as possible and write each thing

they find on the corresponding line on the Activity Page.• Lead kids to the designated area for the scavenger hunt. • After the scavenger hunt is done, allow time for kids to share what they found.• Guide them to notice the things each pair found that are the same as the

others, as well as the things that are different.

W H AT Y O U S AY:“Wow! Look at all the different things you found! (Use one of the items to show kids the variety in answers. For example: how many different items did they find that were orange?) When you FOCUS on what you can see, you notice the variety in God’s creation. When you look at all God created, you see how much He loves us.

“God created food to feed us. Imagine if the only food He created was lima beans and that was all we could eat. Blech! God loves us so much He generously created all kinds of food for us to enjoy: carrots, apples, watermelon, rice, beans, and even broccoli!

“God created colors. Imagine if God only created the color orange and everything we saw was orange. But God loves us so much He generously created so many different colors for us to enjoy. What are other things God created to show us He loves us?” (Point out the variety in the examples kids give. For example, if kids say animals, prompt them to list different animals God created.)

(Share something in creation that points you to God. For example, when you see all the stars at night you are reminded how big God is. Or when you watch fireflies flitting around at night you are reminded how creative God is. Or when you hear the ocean waves crash you are reminded how powerful God is. Or when the sun comes up each day you are reminded how faithful God is.)

3. KEEP LOOKINGW H AT Y O U N E E D : Bibles; two sets of “Verse Discs”; masking or painter’s tape; nine identical items or tape to create a three-by-three grid

W H AT Y O U D O :• Give kids a Bible and look up Hebrews 12:2.

Finding verses with 2nd and 3rd graders: Guide them to open their Bibles to the front and find the table of contents. (Hold up a Bible opened to the table of contents to show the kids what the page looks like.) When the kids find the table of contents, lead them to find Hebrews in the list under “New Testament.” When the kids find Hebrews, lead them to look at the page number beside the word. Explain that the number tells them on what page they can find Hebrews. Help the kids find the page. When they find Hebrews, explain that the big numbers on the page are the chapter numbers. Help them find chapter 12. Explain that the small numbers are verse numbers. Help them find verse 2 in chapter 12.

• Read the verse together.• Quickly create a three-by-three grid on the floor with the nine items, or use

the tape to create a tic-tac-toe-type grid.• Put a piece of tape of the floor for a starting line at least eight feet away

from the grid. • Divide the group into two teams, and instruct teams to each stand in a line

behind the starting line.• Give each team a set of “Verse Discs” and point out that part of the verse

is on each disc.• Teams will race to be the first team to get three discs in a row (in correct

verse order) either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. ú When you say, “Go!” the first person from each team will race down

to the grid and place their team’s first disc. ú They will then run back and tag the second person in their line, who will

then do the same with the second disc. ú After the first three people from each team have placed their discs,

if there is no winner, teams continue to send one person at a time down to the grid to change the location of one disc to a different spot, until a team achieves three in a row, in verse order.

ú Make sure to be clear that a player can only move his own team’s discs and can only move one disc each turn. (In other words, kids can’t switch the location of two of their team’s discs during one turn.)

W H AT Y O U S AY:“God sent Jesus to make a way for us to have a relationship with God forever. So, in Hebrews 12:2, Let us keep looking to Jesus is a way to say we can keep looking to know God. One way to know God is to FOCUS on what you can see. We talked about how creation points to God. Here is the cool thing: we are part of God’s creation. God made people because He loves us very much and wants to share His love and His creation with us. Focusing on all the people we can see in our lives points us to a God we can’t see and points us to a God who wants us to know Him.”

4. PRAYERW H AT Y O U N E E D : Focus Notebooks (with 3D glasses) OR index cards; markers

W H AT Y O U D O :• Give each kid a Focus Notebook.• Show kids how to use the 3D glasses to focus on the pages and designs

in the book.• Explain that each day you will use the Focus Notebooks as part

of prayer time. • Ask kids to turn to page three in their Focus Notebook.• If you don’t have Focus Notebooks, hand out index cards.• Ask kids to write “God, I see You when I focus on . . .” on the top of page

three or their index cards.• Encourage kids to list and/or draw things they can see in creation that point

them to God.

W H AT Y O U S AY:“Remember to take a closer look at the world around you. FOCUS on what you can see because all of creation—including you—points us to God. Let’s pray.

“God, You are amazing! You are so creative! We just have to look at the number of colors in the world to see Your creativity. You love us so much! We just have to look at all the ways You feed us and all the wonderful things You created for us to enjoy. Thank You for showing us who You are in Your creation. Amen!”

(Collect the Focus Notebooks before transitioning to the next track. Kids can keep index cards.)

Travel TimeAs you travel to the next track, use the following questions to keep the conversation going and to keep kids thinking about what they’re learning!• Can you move like a specific type of animal and see if we can guess what

animal you are? (Encourage kids to take turns waddling like a duck, hopping like a frog, etc.)

• If you could have any animal for a pet, what would it be?• What do you enjoy doing outside?
