SPRING 2016 | SESSION 11 Arise Acts 9:36-43 ONE CONVERSATION Parents: Begin by reading Acts 9:36-43 with your son or daughter. Then discuss the miracle of Tabitha/Dorcas. Peter was called to her house and after sending everyone out of the room, he knelt and prayed, and then told Tabitha to get up. Share your own testimony of how God has brought you new life (spiritually). Even though they might already know this story, it is always good to share and rejoice in God’s goodness. Praise Him and talk about His goodness in your life. Encourage your student to share their testimony with you, as well as what God might be teaching him or her now in their walk with Him. Ask how you can be praying for your son or daughter, and commit to be faithful to pray for him or her all week. CENTRAL TRUTH God brings the dead to life both physically in the Book of Acts, and spiritually today. PERSONAL CHALLENGE Dwell: Peter was called to the house of a godly, beloved, and charitable woman named Tabitha (Dorcas in Greek). Tabitha had passed away and the widows of her community who loved her were deeply grieved. ey showed Peter the robes and clothes Dorcas made. Peter sent everyone out of the room, knelt, prayed, and told Tabitha to get up. Word spread and people began to learn about God’s ability to resurrect the dead, both physically and spiritually, as a result. In fact, word continues to spread. ink about your own testimony of how God has brought you new life (2 Cor. 5:17). Memorize: Acts 9:42 Pray: Give glory to our resurrected Jesus, who through the work of salvation, resurrects sinners from spiritual death. Pray for those who grieve. Lift them up and pray that the Holy Spirit would comfort them. Ask God to take their pain and make something beautiful come about as a result. Pray for those who are spiritually dead. Invite God’s will to be done in hopes that the Holy Spirit would draw upon their hearts. Commit in prayer that you will, like Peter, speak the words of life in situations that seem marred by death. Promise God that you will bring the light of His gospel to those who need it.
